I do NOT think it's Death Cab. I don't know why we aren't discussing the most famous Train Engineer ever in song. Casey Jones.
Dead and Company.
it was the first thing discussed. it just doesn't fit as well as deathcab. don't worry, they'll both be there.
I'm a puzzle writer by nature (I'm also a gigantic dork.)
I think they'll both be there too, leaving us to debate something that really doesn't matter. I don't believe that Gibbard was ever a PRACTICING engineer. Mainly, he just studied engineering. I think both sides are equally viable.
the apparent popularity of that "follow me into the night" song they're talking about really seals it. it's by far their biggest hit. casey jones is a fine song but just a random one in a sea of similarly popular dead tunes and an unlikely reference unless the cluemaker is a big head. also grim reaper=death better than dead.

Possibly, if the band was called The Grateful Dead still. Dead & Co. works as a singular subject in this case.
I really feel the Gibbard engineer connection is complete serendipity.

"Hey Peter Frampton! Do you like toast too? Yes, as do I. It is warm and crispy, and a perfect place for jelly to lay. Now stay the hell away from me Frampton, I ain’t got sh*t to say to you!"

Of course DCFC will be there, they are playing several festivals this year, and it's been years since they have been on the farm. After the Tycho show last year I don't see how they don't get the invite, kinda like Phoenix several years ago.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
