What a quacking awesome way to close the Roo. The rain was perfect. Campbell tore the quacking house down. "Mary Jane's Last Dance" is a little overplayed in my book, and I thought I wouldn't have been upset if he left it out, but Campbell and Petty's lick tradeoff during that song BLEW ME THE Quack AWAY. What an awesome moment. Campbell also RIPPED "Good Enough", oh baby!
The setlist was a festival set if there ever was one, a little disappointing considering what rare gems he's pulling out on this tour, but the show had such energy and rocked so hard that I find it hard to be truly upset. A truly great way to close the Roo!
Deal with Thursday better, there are a lot of people there a lot earlier than in years past. Specifically:
1. Open up Centeroo earlier on Thursday.
2. Book the same kinds bands, no huge acts, but for Quacks sake put a few on which. The fun of checking out smaller acts is ruined by insane crowds.
Build some flexibility into the comedy schedule so when there is a ton of demand for tix people don't have to waste whole days waiting. Or deal with jerkstores scalping comedy tickets. Saw the same guy do this twice for two different Cross shows.
Sound bleed from the Miller Stage (as has been mentioned). Why ruin the sound for a lot of people trying to see a major act so some small band can play?
I agree, if camping opens wednesday, centroo should be open at 2 am on Thursday, or open from the get go. Also, shutting down centroo after the finale is just dumb. A lot of folks by merch after the last show.
The comedy thing has got to have a better way. I waited in line from noon till 2:30 for saget. Got back at 3:30 and I had to sit way in the back. So for front row you've gotta wait 5 to 6 hours?
...it sounds like they're just doing what they should. And, of course it has a positive economic impact, so this will just ensure a new contract. The council has no say on the bands and won't in the future. The HO just books acts that fit their demo. To say HO wouldn't have Phish or Further is silly.
In a weekend full of awesome hip-hope performances, Wu-Tang stole the quacking show. The only way to describe the moment the Clan took the stage was an AMBUSH. They RAN on the stage EARLY, poppin' bottles and attacking from all directions. It was a moment I'll never forget. While everyone thought they'd go on late, the Clan were Witty and Unpredictable, typical WU style. What a show.
They really oughta open up the Which Stage on Thursday. It was waaaaaaay too crowded on that first day. As someone else wrote, Alt-J could have easily played there. Everything else was fine or awesome.
Of Monsters And Men - BONNAROO!! SHAME ON YOU for still F-ing up the sound on Which Stage. No one could hear a thing. I had to go see something else because it was impossible to even hear the girl sing. Still angry about this.
Wu-Tang Clan - I'm making a bold statement here. This was the worst thing I've seen at Bonnaroo in the 6 years I've attended. I'm sure there were worse, but this is the worst thing I've personally witnessed. They all talked over each other and it was nothing more than a hot mess. I was actually really excited to see this since this was the only hip-hop show I had planned all weekend.
Purity Ring - I love love love their album, and this was my Thurs show I was really looking forward to...but her vocals were so pitchy. The echoes only made it sound more off. Pretty disappointed with my expectations. I did love the glowing electronic drum thing.
Cat Power - Another highly anticipated show that disappointed. She sounded bad and basically had a "I don't want to really be here" attitude. Somehow, she also drained the energy from songs that were upbeat on her new album like "Cherokee." So weird
This. I was super stoked about this after the schedule change, we got there early and waited a bit but I left after two songs. Where was the Coachella orchestra? talking all over each other, horrible timing for the talking over each other. very very disappointing. My buddy went with me and I didn't even finish saying lets go get a good spot for McCartney before he was up and on the move.

The Hams and I ended up watching Alt-J at the fountain which was when we noticed loads of mics being moved onto that tiny Fountain stage for the Spree. We ended up front row dead center and it was definitely a highlight of the festival. Every time Tim jumped up on his monitor he would hold his hand out to balance on The Hams. He also held the mic in my face for quite a bit of "2000 Places". Incredible show and the best end to a Thursday out of our 7 Roos!

to start off this was me and my wifes first roo, and first time doing anything like this together. I have to say we both enjoyed ourselves the whole time and will be coming back.
we arrived Thursday afternoon and got put in pod 11 Stewie Griffin which I in turn found out is a 5 beer min walk to centroo so for some reasons it was good and bad lol.
The music for the most part was great
Sir Paul McCartney wow is all that really needs to be said, still cant believe people left after hey jude and missed out on yesterday and helter skelter. this was our most anticipated show and he did not disappoint
Tom Petty I had seen tom back in 06 with stevie knicks so I knew it would be a great show, my wife had never seen tom petty and was eager to see him and enjoyed his set and grooved to the tunes all night even in the rain.
Wu tang this was for me only wife doesn't really care cept she heard me shouting Wu Tan Clan aint nothing to F with the week leading up to roo. they put on a good show but we left after about 7 songs to get a spot for paul
Kyng was in café where just before Bjork, we both had seen them before and knew they would put on a hell of a show, got to shake hands with the band and get a cd signed as well, Also there was definitely a PONDO sighting at this show lol
Tame Impala played everything I wanted to hear and the crowd was huge for them
Baroness was great and will be seeing them again when the chance comes
Thete were a few things that weren't so cool, and I just dealt with it but didn't really enjoy being around
1. DO NOT TALK DURING SHOWS when music is playing. if you aren't that into the show, so be it go do something else I am there to hear everything the band is singing and talking about in between songs.
This happened during Sir paul and I wanted to flip my lid but so many people were doing it there was no point in saying anything
2. Turn the volume up for the headliners please
3. when going around a 2 am trying to sell bonaroo t-shirts don't ask someone if they want a beer and then go lets see what they got in there cooler. I can hear you and I will say something, if you need a drink ASK don't steal from me please
4. what is the deal with the helicopter going over the whole venue all day ?? didn't bother me cept when it was muffling out some of Sir Pauls set just more wondering what purpose it serves ??
enough of that crap as it was petty and pretty low on the totem pole of happiness that we had at ROO 13S THE FOOD was amazing, had Spicy Pie yum, gyro, bbq pork sammich at the back of what(only 4 bucks good deal) Mexican style grilled corn, foot long corndogs, had the THURMAN MURMAN from Roti Rolls (sooo good but stomach sooo bad) and there was soo much more we tried
We loved our bonnaroo experience and will be back, hopefully closer than pod 11 as my feet are still recovering

Much respect to this year's pit line security--especially the guy in the above video. All of us in the McCartney pit line affectionately referred to him as "Commando" as he would go motherquacking commando on people trying to line crash.
But not just him, NONE of the security were taking any shiz from line crashers this year. Before they got everybody up and ready to move into the pit, they would go to each section and say "look around you, is there anybody here that should not be here?" And they were able to boot most line crashers that way.
It seems like in years past that security would just let the pit line be a cluster Quack, but all weekend pit line security was on point and did an amazing job making sure people who waited all day kept their exact place in line and that everybody got into the pit SAFELY.
For example, last year at Radiohead there was a mad stampede to get into the pit which saw people almost get crushed up against the graffiti wall. It seemed like they let everybody in at once. This year, they sectioned people off 200 at a time to let people in. They did this by going the entire length of the line multiple times to make sure people knew what their plan was and to be patient and respect the cutoff point for each 200. Then they would count the 200 and physically put a wall of security guards through the line to make sure there would be no rush.
I felt like there was a greater amount of communication between patrons and security this year. I also felt like they had a much better plan of action this year than in years past. It was one of the many things that made this Bonnaroo more amazing than any other I've been to.
Anybody else have similar experiences, or experiences to the contrary? If they were truly on point this year, I'd want to make sure Bonnaroo knows this so that the plan remains the same and that the people involved with this gets the recognition they deserve.
Definitely passion pit and jack Johnson. Passion pit just sounded horrible and jack Johnson couldn't remember the words to his own songs. I know it's been a while, but c'mon.
The only reason I wasn't underwhelmed is because my expectations were so low to begin with. Did you really think Jack Johnson was going to be good after the massive Mumford let down? That show was doomed to fail from the start.
Haha very good point. I remember he messed up a lot in 08 so I thought maybe it was a fluke. I thought he would at least have some special guests come out or something. You pretty much know what you will get with jack. But with Mumford canceling, I thought they would have more than just jack/ALO up there.
Wilco.... well really that was not a surprise They were pretty awful.
I'm a huge Wilco fan and tend to agree. I wouldn't say awful but it was definitely missing something.
I am not a fan. I've tried very hard to like them because I "should" like them, but I just can't get into them. So I sat through the whole show (only to get a good spot for Paul) and am definitely not a convert. I think the sound was not good where I was sitting, which didn't help.
I don't see why these are "stupid" They're priority for Roll Like a Rockstar. If I dropped that much cash on one festival I'd want to be able to get up to the stage whenever I wanted or else I wouldn't drop that amount of cash the next year. VIP was only being let in if RLAR wasn't filling the place up, and we had also paid for that. It isn't like VIP is just given out to privileged people, a lot of us in the Inforoo camp had saved up for it, had held off on luxuries the whole year to afford it.
kind of makes you wonder how many potheads are all like "Quack VIP" when if they had stayed sober for a 2 months they'd have enough to afford it themselves.
Yea. I know you're staying in VIP but do you really need a huge ass special section in front of every stage? Can you not wait like the rest of us? You might have fun in the crowd. Try it some time.
It's especially stupid when they aren't full (this is 90% of the time)
Considering the size of the crowd for Weird Al, Billy Idol, and Matt & Kim compared to how quacking quiet the Tents were this year, yeah having that spot up front is nice. When I got to Weird Al I was at the back of the standing crowd and couldn't hear it. Same with Matt & Kim.
Audio overall was terrible this year, without VIP I don't know that I would have heard any of the bands. Way too high on the bass and far too low on the vocals.
I am an expert cleaner/user of portos. We shall see how I fair with these long drops. I carry my baggie with wipes (to wipe down the seat), TP, and hand sanitizer.
I also think Mike Birbiglia shouldn't have tried out his new material at Bonnaroo. He even said at the end that not all of it was really finished/polished yet. He was still funny, but Bonnaroo isn't the place to test new waters.
Gonna get burned for this but I was a little disappointed in Paul. Thought he was taking way to long between songs. I get that it's his style "here's a hit wrote about whatever" // play song // "thank you" // change guitars for a minute or two, but I thought it would have been nice to see him crank through a few more back to back at times.
Still a great show.
Interesting. I was pretty happy with the 37 songs that he played and I loved the banter. Part of the reason I loved the show so much was because Paul seemed so cool. But if you were looking for non stop songs, I could see why it would get frustrating.
I don't need all non-stop songs, cause I did like some of the banter, but it felt like every, single, song for 37 songs.

Cat Power started late and dragged through a boring version of The Greatest. Should have caught the last 15 minutes of Dirty Projectors before heading to Bjork.
Gonna get burned for this but I was a little disappointed in Paul. Thought he was taking way to long between songs. Agreed, I thought Paul was very personable and his anecdotes really added to the joyous atmosphere.

I only saw one bad show in the 20+ I saw and that was Alt-J. They were boring and far too sleepy. They also need a lesson in how to construct a setlist properly
I am sorry but I am blown away about how good she was. I'm listening to her now and these songs didn't sound this good before I saw her hahahaha. I'm a fan now and glad I didn't miss the show. Her drummer was incredible and the choir was on point. Magical even. I couldn't stop looking at a few of them (one of them looked like she wasn't feeling it but eventually got into it.)
Did Hidden Place creep anyone else out? The graphics on the screen...man it was awesome hahaha
'It's getting dark...' changed everything.
Hidden Place used the visuals featuring sea life right? Oh man, that was intense.
That's the one! It was so intense. The worms...the starfish...and was that a seal? I kept trying to look away but was stuck in it while this song just took me into a head space I never been in. It was so weird.
I'm listening to it now. I don't recall ever hearing this song before but now I'll always think of sea life when I do!
