We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

All my classes this week have been cancelled, which is cool. But today all the Thai teachers are gone to a meeting which means I too get to leave for the day. Awesome.
This morning I paid my property taxes, completely paid off my credit card, put $300 towards another credit card, and still have money left over to last me till my next paycheck. I feel so adult and responsible.

So things fell apart in Atlanta. A 12 year relationship ended. Although not married we bought a house together. The rest of my life as I'd thought it would be lived out was yanked from underneath my feat. Couple that with my employer imploding and long term unemployment shit was looking pretty grim for me. I had no choice but to move back to FL. Back to a city that I have nothing but hatred, yes hatred, and bad memories of. Then Mike passed just one week after I got here. I couldn't afford to make it to 2014 Roo so I missed a significant memorial service for someone I called a friend. I'm pretty shy in person & I don't have allot of non-internet friends but the ones I do mean a great deal to me. I was crushed. It was like NOTHING good would come from my persistence to stay alive.
OK OK OK. I know that is all some pretty heavy not at all YAY! sounding shit BUT today..TODAY we got an offer on the house that is very reasonable! They made an offer and we counter offered and in the end the house is now under contract! Although I don't entirely buy it I'd like to believe that everything happens for a reason. This experience. That which does not kill me only makes me more likely to continue attending Bonnaroo in the future. Today is a good day!

At first, I thought today was just a regular day. But then, the Chief Justice said we could go at 3. But then, I was dealing with an emergency, so I was going to have to stay. But then, my emergency got resolved. So now, I'm unexpectedly on my way home 2 hours early!

Can't go to Spain, so instead I'm taking my month-long vacation in October to motorcycle from Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi. Been on my bucket list for a while and I am beyond excited for this. Booked my flight there today!
Resolving a disagreement with the GF is such a nice feeling. It's amazing what can be accomplished when you first agree to stop yelling first. Yay! for sanity

I get to see popsicle sarah this weekend, along with several other inforooers that I love. Life has been interesting and stressful at the same time. It's realizing that those two things go hand in hand that has helped me deal with the stressful part.

it's great when you have a meeting with your advisor and he says stuff like "dont worry youll know more about this at your defense than anybody on your committee"
Two weeks ago, I was having a hard look at potential career options one afternoon. I know I can only deal with those grueling 10-hour restaurant shifts for so much longer. I decided to work out what certifications I would need for each career path, and began looking into where to get those skills. Serendipitously, one such place was having an open house the following day. It all seemed too coincidental not to attend.
I got a great feeling from it, and arranged an interview for the following Thursday. Showing my hastily-arranged portfolio to the department head was one of the scariest things I've done in my life - particularly since he is a rather conservative industry veteran, and this was somewhat, umm.... out there. Thankfully, the gamble paid off, and I was accepted into the program. But I was very nervous.
That weekend, I had what Jules Winfield would call a moment of clarity. Ever since, I have felt completely at ease about this decision. I felt it even more at orientation yesterday, and I'm sure I'll feel it again on Monday, when I have my first class for my audio production degree. Tally ho!
Back to school, back to school, to prove to Dad I'm not a fool...
Well, bansheebeat tagged me in random thoughts and tricked me into posting outside of the Arcade so I guess YAY for that I might as well keep it up (for one more post anyway) this post was coming anyway, just didn't know where to put it.
Yay for new (to me) music!! Recently I have been enjoying quite a few festival shows of bands that I thought I would never like or enjoy and several not knowing if I was walking into rock, dance/dubsteps, folk, opera, or gansgta rap. There seems to be fewer and fewer names I recognize on lineups and in conversation. It hit me when I got a facebook invite for a fest and I did not recognize a single name on there, not a darn one! I don't think I had ever seen any of the names on another lineup for that matter. So I figured it was time to do something about it. Starting back on August 1st I was going to listen to a different artist each day, starting with the letter A and going down the alphabet from there. I would pick the artist/band from each letter that I either know the least about or had seen on lineups but had no idea what type of music they play. A couple of these I picked because it was a name I had heard outside of my festie friends and lineups, but still had no real idea who they were or what they sounded like. A couple of these bands I had heard one song, but nothing else (i.e. Justice - Dance) Most of the bands I already had at least a complete album of on my computer or ipod, but for some I would just listen to the top 10 rated/popular songs on Spotify or Youtube playlists. I didn't get one every day, but I still went down the list to get one from each letter. This is my finished list:
Animal Collective Broken Bells Cold War Kids Deerhunter Explosions In The Sky Failure Gasslight Anthem Hot Chip Incubus Justice Kooks Local Natives Mindless Self Indulgence The National OK Go Portugal The Man Queens Of The Stone Age Ratatat Sufjan Stevens Tame Impala The Used Violent Femmes The Walkmen XXYYXX Yeasayer Zeds Dead

The ones that stuck out the most to me were Kooks, Sufjan Stevens, and The Used. Kooks was the first one that really jumped out at me and I am probably going to give everyone above them another listen because I know there were one or two I really enjoyed, thinking Explosions in the Sky was one of em. Honorable mentions to The Walkmen and Yeasayer too I had fairly high expectations and was kinda let down by Local Natives, The National, and Portugal the man. I couldn't tell ya why though, probably just from seeing their names the most.

Curious, which album did you go with from Animal Collective?
Definitely my recommendation to start with from them. Probably their most accessible, and where I started with them. It definitely took me multiple listens to "get" it, but Animal Collective is absolutely in my top-3 bands of all time at this point.
Be advised though, Merriweather Post Pavilion is a slight departure from some of their other work. Possibly give Strawberry Jam a listen next to see if that strikes a cord with you.
I always waver on which album to start people off with though, they all have their different strengths.
My car is fixed! I knew my little energizer bunny still had some life left in her. Yeah, there went $300 I wasn't expecting to spend right now, but on the upside they fixed my heat as well, so I won't freeze every day this winter on my drive to work. So YAY!
Saves The Day, Say Anything, & Reggie and The Full Effect. On tour together. If I were a dude, I'd have the largest boner right now. And it's mostly for Reggie & The Full Effect.
Tour Dates - I think I'm gonna go to either the Sayreville, Worcester or an NYC show.

Physical therapy is magical. I've been in pretty bad pain for over a month, and a ~1 hour adjustment and exercises with a sweet lady this morning have me feeling like a million bucks. So relieved that SOMETHING actually helps (after many pain meds & muscle relaxers have only put a tiny dent in it).
