I bought a four pack of New Belgium + De Koninck's Flowering Citrus Ale (part of the Lips of Faith series). Cracked one open when I got home with it and it is so nice.
My local place always keeps stuff in the back you have to ask for. Not so much by name as more "what hard to find shit do you have in the back?" Today I picked up Captains Daughter by Grey Sail in RI. A fruity(In a really good way) double IPA. A strong recommendation to pick it up if you see it. Very delicious.
There's a couple notable package stores in Providence with quality beer selections. One of them has Grey Sail as their beer of the month in September, with 6.99 six packs of Flagship, Flying Jenny, and Autumn Winds. Then seen on their Facebook page they had Captain's Daughter. So while out in Providence today, picked up some Captain's and Autumn.
The Captain's was canned last Tuesday, and the Autumn was canned on Monday. So both are nice and fresh, though a couple cans may end up in my basement until New Years.

I am not usually one to like anythin' sour or citrusy in my beer, but holy jeez is Westbrook's Key Lime Pie gose fuckin' dope! Originally I took two cans to the beach last month and let my buddy have one, but I'm so glad my local shop got a second shipment in! Now I've got six more cans of deliciousness to go through.

I need this in my life. I've only ever seen Westbrooks White Thai around here. Fingers crossed my fav beer store has it.

White Thai and one other is almost all I ever see 'round here. But I also did chance upon a bottle of Mexican Cake that I can't wait to drink.

So I am doing an impromptu Vermont brewery tour next Friday on my NYC trip, hitting up the Alchemist retail locations, Hill Farmstead etc... Anyone have any places I should not miss? Dave I am leaving from Knoxville Thursday morning, if you feel like road tripping, I will have you back mondayish.
They tell us "Rock'n'roll is the devil's music." Well, let's say we know that rock is the devil's music, and we know that it is, for sure … At least he fuckin' jams! If it's a choice between eternal Hell and good tunes, and eternal Heaven and New Kids on the fuckin' Block … I'm gonna be surfin' on the lake of fire, rockin' out.

The only one to avoid is Magic Hat. I'd recommend just stopping anywhere that looks good. There's not too much bad stuff coming out of Vermont. Maybe drop in at Lawson's Finest Liquids. I believe the guy runs it out of his garage so check the website first to see if they're doing tastings that day.
I'd also recommend, depending on how you come up from the city, driving Route 7 from Troy all the way up. A lot of the breweries are right off 7 and it's just a prettier ride. It's a little slower but it's easier to navigate than cutting through the Adirondacks into Northern Vermont.

I just had a friend visit a few places while he was up there, includin' Alchemist. I'll see if he remembers the names of any other breweries. And yeah, apparently Alchemist lives up to the hype.

Do you plan on staying in/near NYC on Thursday night? Cause that may not help if you want more time in Vermont on Friday, especially if you need to be back in NYC on Friday night. Traffic around NYC and in southern CT can be brutal, even outside of rush hour. If you don't need to be in NYC, the farther away the better.
I haven't been to any of the breweries in Vermont, so I can't give advice on what's actually worth visiting or not. If you were to go up the 91 corridor though, I might be willing to meet up with you for part of the adventure.

I am driving to NYC and staying in Manhattan, a friend of mine has a cra rented in Boston so I am just taking the train there Friday morning. This is exactly as far as I have planned this.

Lawson's is actually brewed in CT at the Two Roads brewery. I only know this because I have several friends that work there... I get dented cans of Sip of Sunshine for free all the time(and yes... I am bragging)
Edit: only Sip of sunshine and super session are brewed at Two Roads

Good to know. I've only tried to go there once and he was literally brewing out of his garage in VT.
I think there's a few others that contract brew at Two Roads.
Thomas Hooker too.
There are a bunch that contract brew at Two Roads. Blue Point and Evil Twin that I know off hand. It was part of Two Roads business plan in the beginning.

Pro-tip: Pay attention to what your local brewery is doing event wise. We went to the Crafty Bastard last weekend and saw "spiced" in the name of one of the taps. Being the season it is, we expected something on the lines of
We got
If we had paid attention to the event calendar, we would have seen they had a night during the week where they featured a celebration of peppers and beer of which the beer in question was one they still had in.
I had a pepper IPA once, but for the life of me can't think of who made it. I was not a fan. I have seen others and haven't had an ounce of temptation to try them. And this with me loving spicy food and putting hot sauce on almost everything.
I agree that they make a bunch of weird shit, but I do love a lot of their stuff. Evil twin is a gypsy brewer, they make their shit all over the place. If you ever find yourself in Brooklyn, stop by Torst in Greenpoint. It is the owner of Evil Twins bar. It's a pretty awesome place. Also, Evil Twin does a lot of sour stuff, apparently the owner is an aficionado of that style. I have found you either love sour beers or don't like them at all.

One of my favorite beers of the summer was a limited brew a local brewery did (Brown's Brewing Company). It was a Grapefruit Mint Sour. Their whole sour series was awesome.

I have had a very few with varying results. This one was generally doomed because we were not prepared for the heat at all. Second, it wasn't very hot in your mouth then switched to a feeling like swallowing sandpaper. My throat was affected for hours from one sip.

Has Fizzics been discussed in this thread?
Seen the product on the new Shark Tank last week, it intrigues me. Supposedly turns any beer into a draft style. It's also portable (runs off batteries), could use it for tailgates, festivals, etc.
