I think the numbers were bogas this year, I have been to three Roo's and this by far was the most crowded... all the things I have done easily in the past (Cinema tent, Comedy tent etc) were impossible to even get into.. plus man it was packed all the way back far at every show...just wall to wall people...I think they lied to sell more tickets faster making us think less tickets would mean buy early or lose out. I am interested in some aerial photos of this years event.. I can't possible believe that 10k less people were in attendance.. I had a wonderful time, best out of them all for me.. I wish I could stay at Roo all year long..but I think the numbers are "cooked"

I totally agree - my wife and I kept commenting all weekend that it just seemed more crowded than normal. I'm not sure why that is - but the long cinema tent lines were odd and some of the tent stages just seemed more crowded than in years past. Maybe it was just the shows we decided to catch, but it seemed very crowded.
I thought it was more packed this year. Maybe it was there were less people willing to sit at camp all day stoned just to see Panic. Maybe this year people came who actually wanted to see the shows. But it definetly seemed more crowded to me too.
It was definitely more crowded than last year. Shakedown was crowded; the comedy tent was an impossible wait; headliner shows were thick. A total blast, nonetheless, but definitely very crowded.

It was definitely more crowded than 04. I told my brother who was with me in 04 that it seemed to be double the amount of people. That said...phenomenal time.
As for counterfeit bracelets, I can vouch for that. Two 17 year old kids sitting in front of us at Radiohead showed us that they had snuck in, revealing two bracelets which had a very similar look to the Bonnaroo bracelets, and which would've cut it since they were rushing people through security.
There is a solution to the crowding at the gates/counterfeit bracelets issue and it's simple.
Centeroo needs two or three more entrances. They easily could've given BFE a path through the VIP area and an entrance to cut down on traffic and to add convenience. Let's hope they consider this for 2007.
This was only my second roo, but it was definitely more crowded than last year. It seemed to be much harder to get into the tent shows this year. Even for the smaller shows.
A few more Centeroo entrances would be grand. Did anyone else get stuck in the huge crowd on Friday when they weren't letting people in the main entrance? What was that all about?

I was one of those who were caught by that, and from what the yellowshirt said, it was to give them easier access to What Stage for the setup of the main shows. No idea what he meant by that - not sure he knew - but that's what he was told. Supposedly by 1:00 PM they were letting people in.
Clearly considerably more people than last year (I would guess closer to 90k than 80k).
Not nearly as many people as 2004. Not even close in my opinion.
I guess when its all said and done it was probably the second highest attendence Roo has had, but unlike '04 it felt quite manageable to me. I had a really easy time getting close at a lot of tent shows, even though the crowds did spread out far on all of the stages.
Crowds seemed massive, much bigger than last year. Last year if I showed up a half hour before the show I was up close, this year I was standing outside the tent. No Complaints though, still had a fantastic time.
did seem very crowded, but not overly bad...except for up front for beck and radiohead that was to much. I got into the comedy tent on friday with no wait, I guess me and my friend just walked up at the right time, there was a line, but they opened the doors right when we got there, nice air conditioned break..Patton Oswalt was funny as hell.
Yeah, it was crowded, but I don't think it was as bad as 04. The comedy tent lines were rediculous, and therefore I did not partake in any comedy seeing.

Yeah, I didn't understand that. How are you gonna shut down the one entrance, when the largest influx of people yet are trying to get in. That said, it still only took my friend and I 20 mins or so to get through. But alot of people were waiting along the fence line, which was stupid, cause you could just walk up the street and get alot closer in the line on the other side.
Am I still high? Of course there were more people than last year... Last year the target was 90k but less than 80k bought tickets (remember everyone predicting Roo's demise based on this). What they "lowered" was the target number so they weren't anticipating certain service/staffing levels. So the brought it from 90 to 80 and then met it.
So yes, higher than last year, but fewer than '04. I'm betting the people who snuck in in 04 versus 06 ends up being a wash comparatively.
But seriously, someone correct me here if I'm wrong.
the crowd was comparable to 04, but I never had any problems with getting a good spot, just had to show up early.
there was no rain this year (until Sun nite of course--yikes) so the elements were easy to handle. I'm sure a bunch of people snuck in, but they didn't cramp my style.

Well, RooSkew, if you are wrong than I am with ya, People were complaining about the attendance being less than last year but seeming to be more, it was the number of available tickets that were lower, I guess previous years it has been 90k and they lowered it to 80k this year. last year there was a 70k attendance this year it sold out (80k) that 10k more people in attendance, so you could imagine what it might be like if they hadn't lowered to 80k
All the staff I talked to put the number at 90k which made it pretty hard to show hop this year.
Anybody else notice the nasty vibe on the Other Tent/That Tent side of the festival on Saturday night? Too many people, too much booze and I kept seeing people I hadn't seen all festival lurching around.

I'll second this.. 2004 was EASILY 115k+ people on 90k tickets and it made things quite miserable as far as logistics were concerned. I highly doubt that this many crashers made it in this year.
I think that the aforementioned WSP factor played into the crowds in Centeroo during the daytime, since in years past a solid 1/4 -1/3 of the GA campers were diehard Spreadheads and were more likely to stay put until later in the day in order to focus on Panic and the latenight sets. These folks were also far more accustomed to buying Shakedown food and goods than the indie kids are.
Things seemed far more organized than they have been in the past, but that may just be from my own little perspective.

We waited in that line for a little bit, then walked around. Those people were NOT moving and I felt sorry for them, but you just have to think outside the crowd mentality. It would happen at the Portapotties too. There would be people lined up on one end of the row, and open potties just a litte ways down. Silly.
Now one thing that this year had was dozens and dozens of squatters for bands far into the day on even the Which, That, This and The Other... World Party essentially played to a crowd waiting for the next two shows (cool for them, but as a die-hard World Party fan I had to explain that I was leaving after the set to 30+ people just so they would let me get in front of them). Other shows I was not so lucky as people who actually detested the band on stage squatted for the next one without letting people through (case and point: the up-front crowd for Mike Doughty's Sonic Stage were waaaaay back for his main set due to Soulive squatters).
I'm not against the practice, but the more people the more likely this will happen. Luckily, many people are pretty cool if you're trying to see your favorite band and promise to leave right after.
i thought it seemed smaller to me. we had tons of room everywhere we went. it surprised me how long it took to get out after a headliner to jet back to camp for latenight supplies. it was like they were checking people to get out of centeroo. but that was the only thing i noticed. it was definetly signifigantly less people then in o4. we were right by camping only. we could see leos flag from our site. and there were open spots throughout that area. just right around my tent there was space for at least 20 or mor camps to be setup. in years past those would have filled up immediatly

Someone told me that Superfly has consistently lied about the number of tickets sold in order to save money on taxes and such. That would be much of a surprise to me. Also, I think earlier we came to the conclusion that it was 80,000 REGULAR tickets. That's not including VIP and the comp tickets. Just fromt hose tickets alone, i'm sure there was at least 100,000 given out. Then add counterfeits, vendors, and the possible "unaccounted", we could've easily had 110,000 people there. But who knows, i can barely count past ten
