Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Alright, we all love to hash out schedules when they get released but how many of us actually stick to our guns? This was my 5th bonnaroo and I had yet to do it. But I was determined to try, and I actually had the most success I've ever had at it. Being in VIP definitely helped (I highly recommend it if you are a music-nut like myself!!). I saw 40 bands (personal high), and had my best fest ever. I was able to see and hear all of the mainstage stuff from my RV, and did not miss a thing walking to and from the RV during shows, so I was able to catch alot more music this year just b/c of that.
Some of these bands I saw as few as 15 minutes of the set, others I saw the whole set. Every band on the list I did see and stayed to listen to more than a few songs. It depended on how good the band was, and how much I enjoyed the music. The late night friday I actually bounced around alot and saw every band, but most of MMJ and almost all of Bisco. Saturday late, I stayed in one spot for GRAB. My only regret is that I missed SASHA, but I was spent after the superjam.
here is my list, in order of appearance:
The Motet The Wood Brothers Rebirth Brass Band Electric Eel Shock Marah Toubab Krewe Dj Motion Potion
World Party Andrew bird Vorcza Steel Pulse Ramble Dove Bright Eyes (with Gillian Welch) Oysterhead Tom Petty Lyrics Born My Morning Jacket Umphrey’s McGee Common The Disco Biscuits Blackalicious
The Neville Brothers The Magic Numbers Dungen Bill Frisell Clap Your Hands Say Yea Elvis Costello with Alan Toussaint Damian Marley Beck Cypress Hill Radiohead Trey Anastasio, Mike Gordon and the Benevento Russo Duo
Mike Doughty Brothers Past The Codetalkers with Bruce Hampton Bela Fleck and the Flecktones Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks moe. Sonic Youth Phil Lesh and Friends
Wood Brothers Tortured Soul Toubab Krewe Andrew Bird Ben Folds Nickel Creek Robert Randolph and the Family Band Tom Petty Lyrics Born Common Blues Traveler (Sonic Stage) Buddy Guy Rusted Root Beck Radiohead Superjam Matisyahu (Sonic Stage) Andrew Bird (Sonic Stage) Rusted Root (Sonic Stage) Bela Fleck and the Fleckones Matisyahu Bonnie Raitt
I made a post on another board that I've edited a bit for my post here. There are pictures from the Roo site tacked in also, so please excuse them. The pictures are limited due to an IMG limit on the other board I was on.
Thursday
The Motet (funky, I grooved)
The Cat Empire (eclectic, high energy, Australian rock of some sort)
Devotchka (dramatic, red wine drank on stage, wonderfully sweeping stuff -- I was happy)
Marah ("Baba O'Riley" cover that shook the earth, walking around in the crowd, rocked so hard)
Friday
Andrew Bird (pretty, goddamn he's talented)
Devendra Banhart (freaky goodness, never wears a shirt, he's so wonderful)
Bright Eyes (great stuff, guests included Gillian Welch, David Rawlings, Jim James, and Griff Rhys, who sang "Hello Sunshine" solo)
Oysterhead (sounded good, but I was kind of screwed up)
Tom Petty (it was pretty solid, Stevie Nicks was there with him, listened to 2nd half of set from camp)
My Morning Jacket (as I said...scary good)
Saturday
Dungen (should have been a late night set, but awesome either way)
CYHSY (the only thing that approached disappointment, solid enough)
**The Radiohead Shuffle Begins**
Beck (good, seemed low energy, awesome puppet show though, served dinner on stage)
Radiohead (wow, wow, wow -- their work on the jumbo screens was wayyyyy cool)
**I wanted to check out a lot after this, but I was spent and completely fuc*ed out of my mind**
Sunday
Shooter Jennings (great set, sounded awesome, nice wakeup, plus Drea (sp?) and Gena)
Be Your Own Pet (25 minute set -- blazed -- an aural enema)
Refugee Allstars of Sierra Leone (uplifting, joyous, great for the sunshine, reggae for the most part) Son Volt (better than I was expecting -- really strong performance -- great version of "Chickamauga") Steve Earle (incredibly moving set, very political, Allison Moorer came out) Phil Lesh & Friends (lotsa fungi, crazy good times -- rained hard, I freaked, hid in tent and came down)
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.

Well I wasnt entirely sober (who can pass up shrooms and Radiohead or shrooms and MMj or shrooms and Phil Lesh I mean really!!..... just a couple to get ya going was a great idea instead of eating a whole bag at once like usual!)

Thursday: Tortured Souls (these guys were great) Electric Eel Shock Marah
Friday Andrew Bird Seu Jorge Ben Folds Mike Gordon and Ramble Dove Bright Eyes Oysterhead Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Umphrey's McGee (was really impressed by the love they had from their fans) Disco Biscuits (Biscuits were still better than umph's though )
Saturday: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals Dungen (just a few songs) World Cup game (managed to get in there somehow - we got royally screwed with those two red cards, hopefully we can pull off a huge win over Ghana and advance on goal differential) Rusted Root Gomez Amadou & Miriam (caught like the last 5-10 minutes) MMW (really wish they started on time and that I saw more) Beck (last half hour or so) Radiohead (phenomenal and managed to get a great spot - Dollars and Cents nearly made my head explode) GRAB Dresdon Dolls (sweet "White Rabbit", especially since I read Alice In Wonderland while down there this weekend) Sasha (ridiculous)
Sunday: Mike Doughty's Band (didn't catch enough of this unfortunately... but got a couple of songs) Brother's Past (these guys sounded great and are growing on me very quickly) Soulive Bela Fleck and the Flecktones (very impressed) The Streets (fun but not so impressed - "Dry Your Eyes" should be a #1 hit song) Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks Sonic Youth (they fucking RAWKED!!!) Moe. (loved the song right before "Rebobula" - "Wicked Awesome" I guess its called) Phil Lesh and Friends (Joan Osborne was great and Scofield... wow)
It was an amazing time... I never imagined I could see so much great music in one weekend and throw in Nine Inch Nails on Tuesday - incredible)
Thursday night, I saw a whole lot of the back of my eyelids after driving down the entire way from Michigan. Passed out around 5, work up around 4:30 (freezing my arse off, no less!) I was a little pissed, but when I realized how much better I felt, knew I'd come through it okay.
So, on Friday, I saw... Devotchka, (sonic) the Wood Brothers, (sonic) Ben Folds, (which) Umphrey's McGee, (sonic) Oysterhead, (what) Petty, (what) My Morning Jacket (that)

This was my 4th Bonnaroo and I paced myself so I could maximize my exposure to the performers. I saw 13 in 2003, 24 in 2004, 40 in 2005 and this year I clocked in an amazing 63 shows!!!
David Ford I-Nine The Motet Matt Costa Wood Brothers The Cat Empire Tortured Soul Devotchka Electric Eel Shock Marah Moonshine Still Toubab Krewe Ben Folds Steel Pulse G. For some reason image tags aren't working. I'll leave them in there for now in case I figure it out.
Friday:
A few World Party songs (fun!)
Nice spot mid-tent for Andrew Bird's whole set. He is a genius and a ninja and I am gay for him.
Ben Folds (overheard a song or two, too crowded and sunny for me)
Outside Seu Jorge's tent from the drum circle through the end. That tent was rockin'
Devandra Banhart sang about White Reggae Trolls
Then I met up with my group. My feet were throbbing. I was exhausted. My drunk had been turned off. Hadn't found smoke, and therefore drank too much. I decided I needed to sleep (I knew late night was my priority). I left my group, found it wasn't so hot anymore, washed up and cooled off, and got a second wind.
Took a brief, round-about tour of Bright Eyes, Mike Gordon, Nickle Creek (I loved Toxic) before heading over to the main stage.
Saw the first four or five Oysterhead songs (maybe it was my mood, but I was a bit underwhelmed. Seemed like Trey was mailing it in, and I usually defend him from that kind of criticism. He seemed way more energetic to me the next night)
Slept up for late night/Listened to some Petty from camp.
Lyrics Born, MMJ, Blackalicious (with a brief taste of Common and some Biscuits on the way out). Good times
Saturday:
Missed Magic Numbers and Dungen like an ass. Little bit of Bill Frissel, little bit of Clap Your Hands
Amadou and Mariam rocked my world completely. Maybe the best guitar solos I saw all weekend.
Junior Gong from War-> No More Trouble on. Absolutely amazing. There are two or three years where this would have been the highlight of my Roo.
Met up with my group for Beck. Somebody in my group finally got something to smoke! Beck was HI-larious. We were literally rolling around the lawn laughing at puppets.
I snuck a peek at Cypress Hill. They had a huge Buddha.
Radiohead was perfection for me. I had my 15 Steps claps down.
Low on energy, but determined to do some late night. Hung out around the (apparantely stationary?) floats until Dr. John came out. It seemed cool when he came out, but I was needing high energy and checked out Balkan Beat Box. They did the trick and were a lot of fun.
Went over to the Superjam and was amazed. That place went nuts for Casey Jones when Phil came out. I wanted to have more energy, but eventually turned it in.
Sunday:
Slept through most of Shooter like an ass. By the time I got there for his last song, I was really pretty trashed and loving it. I developed a suspicion that this guy was Devandra Banhart with a T-shirt and Aviators on. Anyone ever seen them together? Drea DeMateo can't see Shooter cry behind his Aviators.
I was closer for The Col. and the Codetalkers than the guy who took this picture:
They rattled my skull.
Walked by Be Your Own Pet and settled in at the Refugee All-Stars for a blissful afternoon set. All was right with the world at this point.
Caught some Streets and Malkmus. I managed to hear No More Shoes but was pretty far gone at this point.
My wife came up with an ingenious plan to hit every tent for 20 min. or so before we headed back to camp and listened to Phil from there.
Steve Earle->Atmosphere->Sonic Youth->Bonnie Raitt->moe.
Did Phil start late? If not it took a while for them to turn him up so we could hear him. It was nice to be "home" when the rain finally hit.
Thursday Nug Jug Matt Costa The Cat Empire Devotchka Toubab Krewe

Thursday Last 2 songs of The Motet Wood Brothers Devotchka Toubab Krewe
Friday Andrew Bird Seu Jorge Oysterhead Tom Petty (a bit nasally) the Heartbreakers ROCKed Umph for a little bit but it got to crowded and turned in before they played Another brick in the wall, atleast they didn’t play the whole DARkside of the Moon, Also on the way back I say Matisyahu just walking down the streets by a campsite really cool, he was just preaching to one of his little jew buddies with him.
Saturday Buddy Guy Beck Radiohead Dr.John, Then scampered over to the superjame, they were just warming up, learned that it was trey and Gordo, stayed maybe 7-8 then scampered back to Dr.John, was really laid back and not crowed. When John ended, ran back over to the superjam, and trey and Gordo and the duo were still playing, the two tents aren’t really that far away when you are running and only carrying a beach towel.
Sunday Matisyahu(Sonic Stage) Bela Fleck Matisyahu(Which Stage) M.O.E. Phil Lesh and Friends, Left after Joan went on and on about her romantic life, was impressed with Scofield though.
