Hey all, This was my first year at Bonnaroo. Going into it, I knew the music was going to be awesome, but I wasn't sure how much fun I was going to have meeting other people etc. Turns out, I ended up having a ton of fun meeting people my age, and getting to know all kinds of different folks. It seemed like wherever I was, it wasn't long before someone would be talking to me. Now, this might have something to do with me being/seeming open to conversation, but I think it must have been somewhat a trait of Bonnaroo. So, here are some questions:
1. Is this something you have noticed at Roo?
2. Is this a unique trait of Roo or is it it something I'll find more generally at any music fest(this was my first one)?
3. Are there any music fests/venues/clubs/events in New England or NYC that I'm likely to find a similar atmosphere/people?
the roo vibe is special. but a similar time can be had at almost any festival. you might wanna check out camp bisco, moe down, and gathering of the vibes. they are all in ny and are great festies. im sure a great time could be had at any of them.
just 4 days in australia. not a music fest, just a port stop on my way back to the states. I always tell people it was the greatest 4 days of my life. Bonnaroo just made the second best 4 days of my life.
You'll find that almost all festivals have that type of atmospher, or even most shows for that matter depending on the type of band. Bonnaroo isn't the only place to find the friendly atmospher but a lot of times it's people's first experience with it. Bonnaroo '03 was my first experience with it aside from a Trey show I had gone to a few months earlier.

As far as the large festivals with the big name bands go, IMO the vibe at Bonnaroo is definitely unique to Bonnaroo. I have been to ACL, Lollapalooza, Sasquatch, Coachella, and Bonnaroo and Bonnaroo routinely has the friendliest people and the most diverse crowd of these large festivals.
That being said, those festivals listed are really in a league above the likes of 10,000 Lakes, All Good, or Wakarusa and I would expect that these slightly smaller festivals would have a feeling much more like that of Bonnaroo.
Roo is the only festival I have been to where if you bump into someone THEY turn around and say "sorry."
Other fests have threads or flavors of Roo's vibe, but the complete package is only at Roo IMHO. And it's something that is fostered by the festival producers, respect for music and respect and care for the vibe.
I loved Roo. It was incredible. I really hope there are other festivals out there with the same vibes because I would like to check out something different next year (depending on the lineups) maybe something not so freaking HOTT!

The roo vibe is great. I've been to sasquatch twice because it's not far from where i live and the vibe there sucks; people told me i should cut my hair and get a job, everyone is drunk, etc. Vegoose has an amazing vibe as well, much similar to the roo vibe.
I'm just always amazed that so many people have good vibes. there's alot of cool people out there and these "jam" festivals seem to bring them together under the love of music.
