Is it worth all the extra money to attend any festival VIP, or is it just nice to have the extra amenities if you want them?
I'm going GA to Roo, but still deciding on Roth. With the kind of people who will be playing at Roth, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have VIP access to stages and whatnot.

i just thought it would be cool since this is the first year of the festival, and the bands are so awesome. of course, i can always justify spending too much money on concerts

honestly, as sick as the lineup is, i wouldn't be going if it weren't for brett dennen. and he is about 70% of the reason i would like to go VIP. the closer i am the better... ;D

but he's a beautifully awkward redheaded boy who reads my mind and sings about it. when i saw him on carson daly a couple nights ago i thought my heart was going to beat out of my chest. it isn't often that artists grab me like he does, but i love it when they do.
In my estimation, VIP basically means you'll be a little bit more comfortable than GA. That's it. These fests can become 4 day endurance tests, and some people will pay extra to have the comfort of being close, not having to walk long distances. It's nice having a place to sit down at a show, or eat, and drink away from the madness, whenever you need it.
I do it at ROO because ROO is a madhouse of epic proportions. I'll be 30 at this Roo. I work 60-70 hours a week sometimes. At this point, ROO has become one of my annual vacations. I don't want to go home tired, and VIP allows me to treat it more like a vacation and less like an endurance test. I need the comfort of VIP and an RV to thoroughly enjoy it.
But there was a point in my life when I didn't need it. I could tent it for 4 days in BFE and have a blast. Everybody crosses that thresh hold eventually, where they feel like they can't do it like when they were kids, and VIP is full of these people. I think for this group the options are VIP or stay home. It's basically a question of, have you crossed that thresh hold? And if you have, ultimately what does VIP get you at your desired festival? How much does it cost? And is it worth it to YOU?

/\ /\ /\ I agree. Not the ONLY way to go, but it's definitely easier and more comfortable. And the special guest Thursday night can be a blast. 2 years ago the Rebirth Brass Band was incredible.

i don't think i've reached the threshold, HOWEVER, roth is a mere two weeks after roo, and i would really like to not have to put myself through all that all over again so soon.
VIP at Roth seems like a poor deal to me. Very few perks to the VIP at Rothbury compared to other fests. Plus, it looks to be reasonably sized, so even a far campsite won't be that far.
At Echo and Bonnaroo I think the VIP is worth a lot more. Both feed you pretty decently in VIP, both are good camping spots, and Echo included ten free beers and all the free bottled water you wanted. Bonnaroo the VIP is golden for the no-line entrance and the close camping spot.
Langerado we went GA and were glad. VIP there looked like all promise and very little payoff. Plus, even the BFE campsites at Langer were not far away.
Our plans this year are GA for Langerado and Rothbury, VIP at Echo, and still undecided for Sasquatch. Work has me tied up so we can't do Bonaroo this year, but would VIP if we did.

After three years of GA, I did VIP last year at Roo, but will be going back to GA this year. I think I've said it before, but I just don't think it's really worth it for me. Maybe I'll be singing a different tune come Sunday this year, but I doubt it.
Langerado VIP definitely didn't seem to be worth it. You're right about the camping proximity, Papacat -- no matter where you were, the walk wasn't too bad. I think the proximity thing only comes into play when you're talking about a Bonnaroo or something comparable in size.
