Saw Gogol Bordello last night along with Frank Turner & the Sleeping Souls.
Gogol was awesome, as always.
Frank Turner was pretty overrated imho. My Dad and I got bored pretty quick. I mean, the energy was good and they were a tight band, but they weren't original in any way.
Bestival last weekend here in Toronto was sweet. It's no Bonnaroo, but Grimes, Tame Impala, The Cure, Odesza, Jamie XX and Tchami for $130CAD was a fucking steal.
On a related note, I really hope Grimes doesn't conflict with Radiohead or Disclosure at Osheaga; to quote whoever said it here first, she's a fucking beast live.

Saw The Cure last night in Boston and it was epic. 2 hours and 40 minutes of timeless music. If you still have the chance to see them this year, DO IT!

Little Simz is interesting, reminds me of a female Skepta, with a lot less music to work from.
Anderson Paak. killed it! Such high energy. Started off with some cuts from Venice. Then dove into the hits off Malibu and didn't let up. I couldn't tell you how happy I was when he did the Kaytranada song he's featured in. Oh and when he played The Bird for the first song of the encore. This guy is running all over stage. Then hops on the drums half way through most of the songs and just jams out. His band are nice and jam oriented, compliment his music quite nicely when they do go off the parameters of a given song. Overall I had a body wrecking time. Great way to recover from the lows of a post Bonnaroo.
So a few weeks ago I saw Ray LaMontagne at Stage AE for the Ouroboros tour. It was amazing. No opener. Started with an acoustic set. Then he brought out the "Jacket Boys" and performed Ouroboros in full. Did an encore of full band hits. It was amazing. I loved it. Definitely a great preheadlining act at a festival. I would absolutely love to see him again.
Saw The Cure for the 3rd time this tour at Lakehood in ATL. Def my fav of the three I caught, mainly for being outside with some space and the amazing sunset.
Biggest highlights: Prayers For Rain > Disintegration Jupiter Crash Lullaby > Fascination Street

Saw the Cure in Miami on Sunday Hard to think of a show I've seen was as good as this. 3 hours Deep set list Flawless performance Wish I could relive it
I'm gonna search DIME for some AUDS from this Cure tour. Tapers are the best, the closest you can come to reliving shows you were at.
Don't see how anything could top The Cure for me in 2016. GNR in the Superdome will be epic but that is just hard rock. You can feel Robert Smith in your heart when you see The Cure.
My buddies and I won free tickets to Sinkane last night. They played mostly new music and it was such a dancey good time. I'd love to see them open up a tent at Bonnaroo next year.

Oh wow I haven't thought about him in years.
I saw him play several shows on that first of Montreal Skeletal Lamping tour in 2008. I got the "Color Voices" vinyl signed by him, it's pretty cool. How are the new albums in comparison?

I had never listened to them before the show last night besides what I heard during Atomic Bomb. But, I enjoyed all the songs they played. Sorry I can't be of more help.
last night was one of the best experiences of my life. guns n roses has been my mom's favorite band since i was born, and she never got the chance to see them. watching her be totally in her element and transform into her 25 year old self for three hours was incredible. she was screaming and whipping her head around and i honestly can't remember the last time i saw her that happy. they closed with 'paradise city' and i actually had happy tears singing together while watching the fireworks over the stage. i got a text from my sister this morning at 7am that my mom was calling my pap and aunts to tell them about the "best concert ever." she was also running around the house screaming "GUNS N ROSES ROCKS, JUSTIN BIEBER SUCKS." so yeah, it was worth every penny and being dead today. go see this show, you guys.
Go see Swans this year. Saw them last night in Boston and it was awesome. Loudest thing I've ever heard.
I saw them in Atlanta this past Friday. It was my third time seeing them. Not only was the show the best of the three, it was one of the best shows I have ever been to. I felt like they conjured up the sound that I have been searching for my whole life. Amazing show.
Saw Josh Ritter last Wednesday. He was captivating as usual. He is always the most joyful person in any room.
Last night I got to knock three acts of my bucket list:
Cheap Trick were tight and enthusiastic.
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts were so much fun. No idea how they haven't played Bonnaroo yet. They were so much punky fun. Would be perfect in that Alice Cooper/Billy Idol LN spot if it ever existed again.
Heart were really good, as well. They're pros and still in great voice. Kinda odd, though. They closed their set with two Zeppelin covers - Immigrant Song and Stairway to Heaven. Both sounded spot on but it was an unusual choice to encore with two covers by one band, I thought.
Also, I don't know that I've ever seen someone cover Stairway in full.

Ever since they got back together as The Lovemongers, and maybe before that, they've been covering Zeppelin. The Lovemongers version of Misty Mountain Hop was awesome. It was a clear departure from the wimpy hair-metal days if not necessarily a return to Dog and Butterfly era.
Best version of Stairway to Heaven I ever saw was played entirely on bass by Simon Fitzpatrick, touring bassist with Carl Palmer's ELP Legacy. The first night, the bass solo was Cashmere. The second night Stairway. This guy is amazing and plays the bass more like the stick. This is him doing Roundabout from the Carl Palmer ELP Legacy Video Archives.

I knew that they regularly covered Zeppelin, I was just surprised that their entire encore was Zeppelin covers. And, yeah, their covers are pretty great.
Here's a little background for the Heart Zeppelin covers. I saw them on that tour (2013's Heartbreaker Tour) and the renditions they do (and the performance in general) were really excellent.
For my own part while I'm posting here I had a really good run of shows through July. Guns N Roses in Nashville was spectacular as has been discussed above. I didn't know a group that only was around for a few albums could pack a 3 hour setlist as well as the did but damn it was awesome.
The very next night I was treated to another 3 hour hits packed show of a different nature, seeing Paul McCartney in Cincinnati. He was amazing as always and though this was my 7th time seeing him there was a new section in the show and some really good Beatles songs being performed by him for the first time solo.
Brian Wilson's Louisville date happened 5 days later and was equally impressive though not as long as the two concerts the weekend before. He's currently performing with a 9 piece band doing the Pet Sounds album which is brought to life wonderfully. There also was a lot of other Beach Boys material presented to make up an almost 40 song setlist. Not honestly sure how they achieved that is around 2 hours since it didn't feel at all rushed or hasty.
My final July show was Aretha Franklin in Cincinnati who I've had a mixed experience with seeing live. This show was outdoors in 90+ degree heat so I was concerned she was going to phone it in or try to cut the set short as she could get away with. I'm happy to say this wasn't the case and in fact I don't think I've ever heard her sound better in a live setting. I do wish the crowd would have stood up for more of it but again it was very miserable conditions plus an older crowd generally speaking so I'm not all that surprised. Still I wouldn't have minded to have got to dance around a bit more personally.
I know ya'll are jealous, but I took my teenager to see 5 Seconds of Summer last week. After 3 years of One Direction, they are definitely no One Direction! (Though they do play instruments, I guess)
I had to save my soul by going to Dolly Parton this past Tuesday. Adorable and charming and so amazing that my friend and I were debating if she was lip syncing or not.
Saw Lee "Scratch" Perry perform Super Ape in full +more songs with Subatomic Soundsystem last night. Really dope show. The group that opened, Mindz of a Different Kind, were cool, too. Met Scratch after the show and he signed my Super Ape vinyl!

Next Saturday should I go see Dresden Dolls in Coney Island? (Never seen them, one of only 2 reunion dates)
Or
Should I go to Night 1 of Afropunk and see Tyler the Creator, Flying Lotus, and TV On The Radio? (All acts I have seen multiple times, but I really like)
