Live, Blues Traveler, Collective Soul, Hana Pestle at Turfway Park in Florence, Kentucky Sunday July 27
Luckily I got my ticket at nearly half price ($25) as I was waiting outside the gates smoking and drinking waiting to go in
Blues Traveler and Hana Pestle were pretty damn good.
Blues Traveler are a jamband, they improv, they know how to put on a live show.
They went into Devil Went Down to Georgia three seperate times, one of those times they ended up going into The Joker by Steve Miller.
Hana Pestle is hot as f**k, sounds a little like Alanis Morrisette but not annoying like her at all, she's young and talented, she covered Me and Bobby McGee and closed with Creep by Radiohead. It was just her and her guitar up on stage, she has dark reddish brown maroon hair, and for some reason I fall in love with hot girls who not only can play music but one's who have good taste in music. How many girls of that age would cover Janis Joplin and Radiohead. Seems like most girls aren't into that type of music, at least not here in Cincinnati.
Live and Collective Soul sucked ass because I'm tired of their hits from the 90's that I've heard a million times too many. I liked them like 10-15 years ago, but I'm 27 now and my tastes have changed a lot and I've grown up and really don't care for bands who only want to write the next hit song
I know I could've gone to moe last night at Coney Island or Forecastle in Louisville. But I chose this concert basically because of Blues Traveler, the venue was very very close to my house and I don't have a job right now so money is extremely tight. I probably shouldn't have gone at all but f**k it. I would've enjoyed moe a little more, but I've seen them many times, it was my first time seeing Blues Traveler.

I saw ZPZ last night and they were ab- so- effin- loot- ly the best music act I have seen in a lonnnng time. I know people that use this messageboard know what good music is-but if they are coming anywhere near you-GET to see them. It was a G.A. show...so we were 2 rows back and front center. Watching the entire performance and dancing around that close was amazing-The sound was excellent. He's re-incarnated himself as his father. No poop. He is smooth with that. Beyond that the entire band was Excellent!!!! Didnt see any taping going on though-we'll see ....
Friend sent this to me off a frank site-

I got into the Propagandhi and Voodoo Glow skulls shows in turku Finland for free two nights in a row, just using the i am from Texas excuse. Propagandhi was sold out though. Glow Skulls were okay, but Propagandhi was one of the best punk shows i have ever been to, only NOFX's SXSW was better, but i watched that on stage. Finnish punks are hardcore, and this was the first time Ive been in a punk pit in years. I will have videos later. It was awesome.
Saw Bon Iver at the First Unitarian Church in Philly last night. Let me just say that I've never been to this venue before and I will likely never go again. Worst. Venue. In. Philly. It was soooooo freakin HOT. I mean dangerously hot. Like I love Bon Iver but I could only stand to stay for 4 songs kinda hot. The whole band came out with their shirts off. The 4 songs I did see were awesome. They really like to "jam out," if you can call it that. I really need to see these guys again somewhere that doesn't make me want to collapse on the floor after 30 mins inside
Going to the Newport Folk Festival tomorrow to see Jim James and Trey. Then on Wednesday to see Gnarles Barkley, Thursday to see Poison, Friday and Saturday - All Points West. Then the following Wednesday is Radiohead - with pit seats!
I'll also be at the Newport Folk Festival tomorrow. Are you going both days? I hate Jimmy Buffett, but I've always wanted to see what his shows are all about.
I'm curious to see what Jim James' solo stuff is all about. I don't know what to expect.

DANBIRD!
i was there..damni wish i checked this board before i went.
it was hoooootttttt as balls. it was a great show though. and i got a couple vinyls as well. when i bought the tickets i thought it was upstairs in the main area. i didnt even know there was a second stage downstairs. it was literally a church basement. filled to the brim with people and like 3 fans with no ventilation.
Going to see Blue Mountain @ the Hi-Tone on Friday. Should be a great show. Also have tix to JJ Grey & Mofro on 9/4, Black Keys on 9/25, & the Raconteurs on 9/29. And I just found out David Byrne will be at the Orpheum on 9/23, so September should be a great month for shows.

Was it in the Cathedral? I saw Jens Lekman many moons ago there and I almost took my pants off it was so hot.

the First Unitarian Church has 2 different spots for a show. there is the bigger church part upstairs (ive seen a handful of shows there..and it is awesome, one of the best places to see a show in philly).
then theres the downstairs basement (which i didnt even know existed until the Bon Iver show). it is pretty much a generic basement with no air flow and it was hot and small. but it also has a cool vinyl collection to leaf through and buy records for 10 bucks a pop.
along with a 20 minute DO YOU FEEL LIKE WE DO, among many other greats... yes, i went 2 nights in a row to busch gardens to see Peter Frampton, i'm a nerd! :-) hey it was free and he's a freaking guitar legend, how can you pass that up...
Hi all, long time no visit! Pregnancy has been wiggidy-wacking my brain so I have been spending more time on parenting and Mothering message boards. However music will NEVER EVER leave me!
Since Bonnaroo, the show list has been pretty tiny - you know, morning sickness and then having to save up for darn things like cribs...
However went to two shows in the past two weeks - nothing hardcore but fab nonetheless.
On 8/3 went to see Grace Potter & the Nocturnals with The Black Crowes at Wolf Trap. Grace's set was way too short and she didn't rock out in the fashion she really can, however she hung out the entire Black Crowes set up near the gate signing autographs, taking pictures, being super nice and sociable. I told her I saw her at her last trip to 9:30 and was psyched, felt the belly and hopes I could come to her December show at 9:30 (dunno if that will happen since only 2 weeks before the bebe is due). She also loved my sister (DCBee) and my jewelry and told me and my hubby that my hubby is HOT! Natch! ;D Here's a pic of me and The Hotness with Grace:
Black Crowes were super good even though I am not a hard-core fan. Chris' voice is spectacular, they sounded amazing, and played a good long set, new and old, a few to whet the appetites of radio-only attendees, and also bring on new fans with lesser-known goodies.
Then this past Friday, went to see (also at Wolf Trap) John Butler Trio, G. Love and Tristan Prettyman. Yeah, we went for JBT and were sad they were NOT the headliner.
Tristan was good, but the set was short, quiet and we were busy eating and socializing to really get into it.
Next was JBT. They were great - set wasn't that varied from their last trip to the 9:30 Club in DC, they did some song about MTV sucking, dedicated a song to the Tibetans, did lots from Grand National and really rocked out more than I think they did at 9:30 - no slow songs, less talking, more impressing a crowd that seemed to be 75% drunk college kids waiting for G. Love and 25% rabid JBT fans. I think they did a great job of pleasing both sets. Fab drum solo, team drum solo, John on guitar solo rocking it out...
After JBT did a bit of autographs but by time we got in line, it was across the venue (pregnant girl's gotta pee!) and they cut it off after waiting about 10 minutes. I got frustrated and returned to our spot on the lawn, Dcbee perservered and got a decent photo of John AND his autograph on her ticket. Go girl! Here's her pic of the dredless John:
We were psyched to meet up with Dottie from Inforoo and her fab family - they were all such awesome people. We got lawn seats right at the very front and they put their blankets with us and we had a big gang who ate, drank and were merry together. Here's Dcbee with Dottie:
I totally had a blast and Baby G was dancing up in the belly. Would like to squeeze in a few more shows before I am waddling around, but don't think I can take the general admission/packed like sardines gig at this stage. Anyone have any suggestions for upcoming shows in the DC area?
Oh forgot to mention G. Love... yeah not a fan. Saw them 10 years ago at a free concert at the University of Maryland and that is exactly what this felt like - hokey songs about drugs and sex, no rhythm, no excitement except for the drunk college kids singing along... it was hokey and I felt like I should be at the Peach Pit. We left early.
I know! And we randomly ended up sitting next to each other - I was thinking "I need to make sure to look for Bunny" and then this group of people started laying out their blankets behind us and there she was!
Six MMJ shows in 14 days hasn't left time for much else. I'm headed to Monolith this weekend, then Austin City Limits, then I've got Nick Cave, Billy Bragg, Ray Lamontagne and some others on the lineup. Did I mention I'm going to follow MMJ to Milwaukee, too?
Also, Bunny!!!
Edit: I got roped in to JBT at Red Rocks this Friday night (and my friend conveniently forgot to mention that G. Love is on the bill. Blech!).
How fun! Well, about seeing JBT at Red Rocks. We left after about 3 G. Love songs, which was nice because then we didn't get stuck in all the usual end-of-concert traffic. And JBT did play for a good amount of time, not as much as a headliner, but much more than your usual opener.
