The sound in both places is absolutely amazing. I love the Parish because it's like a small bar setting. These shows rank among the very best shows that I have seen in nola and they happened at the Parish within the past couple of years: 6/18/2012 - The Sword, Red Fang, Honky (all 3 destroyed, only time I've seen The Sword headline a show) 11/16/2011 - Between the Buried and Me, Animals as Leaders, TesseracT (only time I've seen BTBAM headline a show) 3/11/2011 - Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group, Zechs Marquise (basically a secret Mars Volta show and they even played like 8 songs from Noctourniquet a year before it came out)

I just got back from Soundgarden and wow. They sound way better then they did on the reunion tour last summer and really shook the dust off. New album got mixed reviews but integrated with an already stellar catalog it works well to keep the crowd juiced. Chris never sounded better or worse in my opinion his voice is unique which helps any frontman stay on top of the game this long as chris has. They played a little over 2 1/2 hours in a small Philadelphia theater. The show being inside really brought the lightshow to life on the ceiling and would make for a perfect tent show at Bonnaroo. Their coming back to Philly in May with Alice :in Chains and Cheap Trick. Ill be catching them next time around for sure but staying at the tailgate until after Cheap Trick.

I saw The Walkmen and Father John Misty tonight. I think it was Dave who said This Is Sally Hatchet is the best song on Fear Fun and I was all no way it's like the sixth best. Then I saw it performed live and completely changed my mind; that outro KILLS.
Oh and Hamilton from The Walkmen said Father Jeff Misty three different times. I kept wanting to think it was a joke but I don't really think it was, especially considering he said Father John finally at the end of the show. Awkward.
Yeah before they played 138th St. he even said something like "You know I'm not really a religious man but it's good to have Father Jeff with us. This one's for him." Still not really sure if he was just f*cking with him or if it was supposed to be a subtle jab. They've been touring together for all of like five days.
So the Blues Explosion show was fucking awesome, as always. Bottletree was packed the fuck out; every other time i've seen them it was a weeknight.
It's funny, thinking back (and I'm showing my age here) but one of the earliest memories I have of MTV, outside of videos, was '98 or '99 when Blues Explosion hosted the 120 minutes Christmas deal and Jon was completely shitfaced... I think I may have mentioned that earlier and he gave me a tshirt and told me it was past my bedtime XD

Did FJM have the band with him or was it just him? When I saw him this summer, he was solo. I really wanna catch a "band" set.

Full band. And yeah, definitely try to catch them if you can. They were great.
Galactic Thursday night was a good show, very fun. Corey Glover was quite impressive, surprisingly (to me).
Yarn, Friday night blew me the fuck away. They played mostly original stuff including a very cool version of Tennessee and of course "Fussin and Fightin" which is still ringing in my head. They finished the first set with 50 ways to leave your lover which was cool, because randomly Galactic played it for their encore Thursday. At the end of the Yarn show, they all grabbed their instruments and unplugged, walked down into the center of the floor and played "Slip Slidin Away" as a sing along. Very intimate amazing moment.
Anybody that has the chance to should go see these fine musicians that have a knack for connecting with the crowd. 5 full boners.

Well, Diarrhea Planet are nothing if not ambitious. They are a 6 piece band, a 6 piece band with 4 guitarists. Each guitar is absolutely necessarry to reach the back of the stadium that they hope to one day play. They rule.

They opened for Lee Bains III & the Glory Fires here back in November, but I f'n blew it because it was a thursday show and didn't feel like getting out.

Jessie Ware was great last night.
Tom or George were they selling any merch at your show? She said the company was going to rerelease Devotion this spring or something. It was kind of odd.

The US release is set for spring. Its one of those awkward times of being a rabid music fan.
I was reading on her wiki that they had to re-record 110% because the sampled they used on it wasn't cleared. that may have something to do with the album not being released in the us yet.
A hell of a bill last night: Ex-Cult, Gentleman Jesse, & Ty Segall and it was a stagediving exhibition. One dude was brushing his teeth while stagediving and crowd surfing. He won.
(1) Damon Albarn (2) Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds (3) King Khan & His Shrines (4) Ty Segall (5) Ms Lauryn Hill (6) Darkside (7) Kanye (8) Janelle Monae (9) Goat (10) Meshuggah.
Finally managed to see The xx last night. It was one of the best shows I've seen in a long long time. They did such a fantastic job with the lights and projections. I just hope Roo doesn't go all Animal Collective on them and put them on in the middle of the day. Will not be missing them on the farm barring a huge conflict.
