Puscifer 11/05/2015 - San Antonio, TX - Tobin Center
Such a good show. If you get a chance to see Puscifer this tour, do it. Their non-festival shows truly are a spectacle. Puscifer shows have always been more than just music.
This tour's theme was Lucha Libre. Won't go into all the details, to keep some of it a surprise for people seeing the upcoming tour. But it's definitely entertaining If you're seeing the new tour, be familiar with the new album. A large portion of the setlist comes from it.
Carina and Maynard's voices blend so perfectly together, they were practically made for each other. They have an amazing stage presence together as well.
Having seen both Tool and Puscifer many times now, it's completely obvious to me that Maynard truly enjoys Puscifer. I'm not so sure the same can be said for Tool at this point though. I think a big portion of that is Carina. It just seems they're the perfect compliment to each other, and he truly enjoys working with her. As long as he keeps throwing us a few Tool shows every now and then, I'm OK with that at this point.
And the Tobin Center sounded absolutely phenomenal. I was seated basically just above the soundboard. Several times, I'd just close my eyes and just let their voices completely envelop me.
Oh boy. What a night. New DIIV material is just incredible. The best part of the night came with Wolf Eyes and the smattering of people that just stared at it like it was a trainwreck that they couldn't take their eyes off of. I had more fun people watching than anything else.
Unfortunately looking like I might not get to catch them, will just depend on work. If I'm working, I'm going to the HEALTH show the day before instead.
Short review: I'm exhausted, honestly. Deafheaven played the new record plus that Adult Swim single. The encore was Sunbather and Deam House. I've seen them play better but was fun times. Tribulation was great. There weren't many people there though.
I'll give a full review tomorrow after Tonight's show. YOB is love. YOB is life. That's all I can think about right now.
E: if you haven't seen HEALTH, it's a hell of a show.

I caught half of HEALTH's set at Levitation this year, and it was fan-fucking-tastic. Seen Tribulation twice and they're always great. Never actually seen Deafheaven yet, somehow always miss their fest sets. However, the Deafheaven/Tribulation show in Austin is a free show, meaning you'll have to line up early if you want a chance to get it. I wouldn't be able to get there til after doors if I'm working, so wouldn't be able to get in. So hoping it works out, but not looking too likely at this point.
Delicious Meatball Sub -you have mentioned Mark McGuire before. Have you seen him live and is it worth it?
I'm not the tasty sub, but I have seen Mark McGuire play before (Levitation '14). Fantastic show, can't wait to see him again. It's just him up there on the stage with his guitar and a bunch of pedals for looping (maybe a keyboard too? I forget). I'd definitely catch him if you get the chance.

Fuzz absolutely blew me away last night. I feel like I've been hit by a fucking truck. Just seeing them transition from classic rock riff-age to stoner metal sludge to balls to the walls psychedelic punk so seamlessly, utterly fucking amazing. It was one of those epic shows that shakes you to your core. Had a moment were I was pushed up to about the second row, front and center, and made eye contact with Ty for a brief moment before he (and I) started rocking out like madmen again. The Terror might be the best song he has ever written.
Funny story, I nearly died during the encore when Ty said they were going to do a Zeppelin cover, and then proceeded to play 21st Century Schizoid Man.
Just got home from Grimes. It was awesome. She really puts on a hell of a show. It was only and hourish and leaned slightly more towards older stuff but was still a blast. As she integrates the new stuff into her show it will only get better and better. It really was one big, awesome dance party.
Oh and she brought out Janelle Monae for Venus Fly.
Also just got back from Grimes! Overall it was a pretty great show. The opener Nicole Dollangager was thoroughly entertaining. I guess you could describe her music as very atmospheric and very gothy. She was accompanied by two other people on stage, a guitar player who looked like the lead singer of Cannibal Corpse who also used a kick drum and smashed a high hat with the end of his guitar, and a bass player who kept stealing the show with his very creepy over the top movements and facial expressions. Seriously the two other dudes on stage with her were very creepy, which I guess was their intent. At one point in between songs the guitar player just yelled...for seemingly no reason. Also after their set and before Grimes, her and the guitar player walked back out across the stage, with Nicole seemingly dragging the guy along like he was a pet. Very strange
Grimes was pretty badass. Janelle Monae coming out on the third song to do Venus Fly was spectacular. The crowd was also very energetic, only downside was I wish it didn't have to feel so cramped. The standing room wasn't very big and it was a sold out show. I like to dance and jump around, but I'm also very conscientious of the people around me and that I'm not going to elbow someone in the face or bump into someone who doesn't want to be bumped into. There were still some pretty hype moments though especially when she did Kill V Maim. Only downside was her set was just barely an hour. I was definitely not ready for it to be over when it ended, and I wish I could have heard more of her new stuff. I definitely want to see her again in a music festival setting next year with hopefully more new songs incorporated. Oh I also want to mention that "Scream" a song I didn't like off the album is much better live, she does different verses in Russian and it just sounds a lot better. Her scream is also way more intense. The song "Go" with Blood Diamonds also translates better in a live show.

Probably the best show I've seen all year.
I went to the New Orleans show. It thoroughly ruled.

Stoked to see them in Toronto next week. Will be my first time going to a concert solo in a really long time, and I fully intend on rocking the fuck out. Did you guys get an opener?

Parquet Courts were great last night. Crowd seemed super happy they finally came back after 3 years and bought them lots of shots during the show. You could tel they enjoyed the love too. Great setlist.
Saw Health with Pictureplane last night. Only downside was the Health set was kind short, right at an hour. Pictureplane came out 20 mins late, so didn't help the situation. Was not familiar with Pictureplane at all, but enjoyed his set quite a bit. Almost sorta goth IDM?
Health were great, played a good mix of old and new stuff. I'm sort of confused though, I thought there were 4 members in the band? Pretty sure there were 4 at Levitation this year, and see 4 in some other live videos. However, last night, there were only 3 on stage. Not sure what was up with that. Dave MaynarDelicious Meatball Subbillybaroo or anyone else familiar with Health know why there just 3 on stage?
The strangest thing that I saw all night was a couple during Health. This guy and girl were facing each other, pressed close up against each other. But the guy was straight up choking her, and shoving her around the mosh pit, while holding onto her at the same time. In between shoves and chokes, they'd be making out. And she was completely into it too, just rubbing all over his head. He was pretty violent with her, but she was enjoying it. EAP and Monie got a better view of that whole spectacle from the balcony. Don't think I've seen a couple like that at a show before.
Definitely see Health if they're coming through your area, see them. Hopefully your venue doesn't have a strict curfew, and they can play for longer.
So I saw George Clinton and the motha fuckin Parliament Funkadelic last night at a 500 person venue. It was amazing. My ears are still ringin. If you don't have good things to say about them live you are wrong
Feel like mashed potatoes this morning, but Fuzz was fucking amazing last night. I can't remember who said it before but the new songs really do sound great live and, unlike a lot of Toronto shows, the crowd and specifically the pit were right into it.

Hope Roo gets them and the Family Stone for that Mothership Returns show.

saw The Lone Bellow last week in new york. they were pretty amazing. Anderson East opened for them and he also put on a pretty awesome show. very alternative country/folk. I wouldn't be surprised to see him hitting some of the festivals next summer - probably buried down in the lower lines but worth checking out.

I saw fuzz for the third time in the last two weeks last night. It was probably my favorite of the three shows, they might be my current favorite band. I also enjoyed the opening band Walter. Their frontman was weird as fuck.
Saw Health last night. Jupiter Keyes is definitely not touring with them, not sure why, but if you look at his instagram/twitter it looks like there might be some drama?
Anyways they were amazing. Agree with the previous review that Pictureplane was cool, and Health crowds have some interesting couples. No choking but some people that look like they were ready to start fucking (and probably had kinky sex afterwards). They are so out of place on the Hangout lineup it's ridiculous. Probably tied for 2nd favorite show of the year with RTJ at bonnaroo (death grips is 1)
