The Old 97's are playing a free show at the CMT Crossroads bar at a casino here in town tommorrow night.
Willie Nelson plays at the same casino that night (their large venue).
Willie starts @ 8:00 and Old 97's start at 10:00.
I have heard from a reliable source that Willie is planning on sitting in during The Old 97's set when he is done with his show. That would be awesome. The tickets for Willie are over $100 so to see him play for free would be amazing. I missed him at Roo to go shopping on shakedown, but I have seen him before so it was cool.

Amazing show, sooooo much fun. Nemo> Mulches was awesome. After Midnight was freakin sick! Lots of nommage in the crowd, and everyone wanted to share. Late night munchies at Mel's: amazing, they have the besstest patty melt. Surprisingly not hungover, and I downed at least eight beers after I left my apt. All in all, good times, the House of Blues here is so small, at least compared to Chicago.
10/28/08 House Of Blues, West Hollywood, CA Tea Leaf Green opened.
Set I: Professor Wormbog, Andy's Last Beer> Dump City, 2x2, Nemo> Mulche's Odyssey Set II: Plunger> Jimmy Stewart (w/ lyrics)> Walletsworth, Tribute to the Spinal Shaft> Pipeline> Nemo, Runnin' With the Devil, Rocker Part II, The Fuzz> Plunger Encore: After Midnight1> Get in the Van
NIN last nite. Opening act was Health. Worst band I have ever heard. Words can not describe it. So here is a sample. Warning: this could be hazardous to your health
I was supposed to see Legendary Pink Dots last night in NC, but it's a 5 hour drive, and it would have been too expensive... so I've made the decision to go see them in Atlanta (less than a 3 hour drive, for me) tonight, instead!
I saw TV on the Radio play Stubb's in Austin on Thursday. Here's the setlist:
Young Liars The Wrong Way Golden Age Halfway Home Province Wolf Like Me Dirtywhirl Stork & Owl Shout Me Out Dancing Choose Blues From Down Here DLZ
Encore Love Dog A Method Let the Devil In Staring at the Sun
Overall impressions: They've added a lot of guys to the stage set up. They now have a horn section, presumably the guys from Antibalas, and Katrina Ford sings back up vox on close to a majority of the songs. The opening 1-2-3 punch of Young Liars>The Wrong Way>Golden Age was simply epic. Halfway Home is still a work in progress but by no means unenjoyable. Province and Wolf Like Me are straight forward crowd pleasers. Wolf Like Me is not my favorite song of theirs but it amazes me the amount of crowd participation that songs garners. They've added an abstract intro to Dirtywhirl which sounds a bit like a Love Dog false start and reminds me a bit of the way Radiohead opens Everything In Its Right Place. Stork & Owl is a beautiful ballad and is yet another example of Kyp coming to the forefront as an increasingly charasmtic co-frontman. It also belies the need for more freaking ballads. For a group that's written Ambulance, Tonight and Family Tree it seems like a waste that we basically only get two slow songs from them.
Shout Me Out is a quacking horrible song on record AND live. The only difference is that live the first part is especially horrible whereas on the record it's the jam section of the song that reeks. I wish one of their friends would have the balls to tell them to stop playing the song live cause the thing is just bad. Dancing Choose is still rough. They false started once and had trouble staying in rhythm throughout the song. It's also a song that's a bit weak until it climaxes. Blues From Down Here and DLZ were both alright, but the last four songs sort of took the wind out of their sails and left the encore chants feeling more obligatory then earned.
Still the encore happened and was pretty amazing. Love Dog is a delicate ballad live that works it's way pretty well into A Method, a staple of their live shows in the last couple years that might be on its way out (it's still great, but it's beginning to feel played out). Let the Devil In was fantastic, best version I've ever seen them play live. In a tie with Golden Age for song of the night. Staring at the Sun...what can I say. It's the song, along with Wolf Like Me, most people know. It was pretty great, but part of me misses the days when they ended with Ambulance.
Anyway, the show was good enough to get me back for the next time they come through, and they seem to have steered clear of some of the trouble spots they had begun to fall into the last leg of their Cookie Mountain tour. I think they're headed towards a bigger and bigger sound.
As a side note, if you catch them on this tour, I suggest avoiding the opening act the Dirtbombs. Wankery.

STS9 was incredible on Halloween night!!! i had never seen them and i was quacking blown away. i seriously hope that they are at roo 09
True dat!! They are freakin' awesome!!
On another note, I saw a Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds acoustic show in support of Obama last umm, Sunday I guess it was, in Richmond! They were of course, amazing!!
"We're no longer called Sonic Death Monkey. We're on the verge of becoming Kathleen Turner Overdrive, but just for tonight, we are Barry Jive and his Uptown Five. "
Gov't Mule was really on tonight. It was a ton of fun and Warren was having a blast. We were treated with some nice cover songs: Red House, After Midnight, For What It's Worth, Can't You See. I was kinda surprised at no Soulshine. Davy Knowles from Back Door Slam played After Midnight with them and the look on Warren's face during Davy's solo was priceless. I would highly recommend you catch them together on this tour.
Saw a lot of good shows at Magfest, Donna the Buffalo was awesome as always. But the late night set with Bill Kruetzman, Sam Bush and others was freaking mind meltingly amazing. Seriously, WOW!
Also saw Sasha on Halloween....he plays with my emotions and I like it
I'm going to Nine Inch Nails on Wednesday I can't wait. It'll be my third time seeing them but first time on this tour, too bad Josh Freeze just left the band.
Caught EOTO last Satuday in Little Rock. Non stop dance party. Had my glowsticks in hand and danced the night away. Actually met a guy by the name of George outside who attended the first bonnaroo and first wakarusa that had ever been put on. Good people at that show. Also the opening band was a local band called Stardust Output. They've got a myspace page check em out. Really good ambient/trance/experimental stuff.

Saw a lineup of Beastie Boys/Tenacious D/Nash & Crosby/Ben Harper a couple Sundays ago. It was as good as it sounds. Ben Harper was with his new Relentless Seven band. Rocked. Tenacious D did 'Under Pressure' with them. They also filled in for Stills/Young on 'Find the Cost of Freedom' and introduced the Beasties.
Saw of Montreal here in Atlanta last weekend they were freaking AWESOME!!!!
They still hold the honor of having the single most unusual stage show I've ever seen. I saw them Oct. 07 and first gave them that award, but they topped it this tour. Bizarre but I couldn't tear my eyes away.

AA Bondy at Cincinnati's MidPoint Music Festival
Cincinnati's 500 Miles to Memphis at MidPoint
Backyard Tire Fire - MidPoint
Charlie Louvin opened for Old 97's at Southgate House
Ha Ha Tonka - MidPoint
Natalie Portman spoke for like 5 minutes at the Vote Early, Rock Late Obama Rally in Cincinnati, soon after introducing The National to the audience, The Breeders played earlier in the day, and the show was free!
We just got back from a night of drinking and debautchery from the Marah show in DC. Wow. Just wow. 3 hours oozing that Philly punk soul they do so well. It was in reality just 2 out of the 6 doing an acoustic show. But Dave looks more clean than I have seen in awhile. And finally after 8 years of following this band around I hear my favorite song.
