-Miles Davis: Live-Evil (seems to be the most hated Miles album, but I love it. Very aptly named as well, very.... "dark")
Seems to me that albums of roughly equal parts live and studio shouldn't count. Although I love that album as well. But if they did, I'd nominate Gary Burton's "Alone at Last".
I whittled my list down to 10, but I can't bear to whittle anymore!
1. Keith Jarrett - The Köln Concert (picking one Jarrett album was tough enough) 2. Phish - Hampton Comes Alive [box set] 3. Shakti - Shakti 4. Tabla Beat Science - Live in San Francisco at Stern Grove 5. Led Zeppelin - How the West Was Won 6. Masada - Live in Jerusalem 7. Paul Simon - Concert in the Park 8. Béla Fleck & The Flecktones - Live Art 9. Spring Heel Jack - Live 10. Eddie From Ohio - Portable EFO Show

Where is this band from? When I was younger and went to the Outer Banks we hit up a surf shop that was owned by a guy named Eddie and we saw these pictures and drawings up on the walls that had Eddie from Ohio on them...this was probably in 96 or so.

Eddie From Ohio is a folk-rock quartet from Virginia. They've been together since 1991. However, their name comes indirectly from the nickname of the lead singer of the band fIREHOSE, Ed "from Ohio" Crawford. Does that help?

I suppose it does...but I am not sure what my goal was in the first place. Could have been the surf shop just liked the band...
"All in all, the creative act is not performed by the artist alone.. the spectator brings the work in contact with the external world by deciphering and interpreting its inner qualifications and thus adds his contribution to the creative act." -- Marcel Duchamp
Here's 3 older faves: Wishbone Ash- Live Dates (If you have never heard of them but like moe. try & find a copy. Outstanding stuff with twin guitars) Lou Reed- Rock and Roll Animal (Intro/Sweet Jane! Hunter & Wagner are true Gitar Heroes!) Deep Purple- Made in Japan (Just skip over Smoke on the Water- Strange Kind of Woman is the best of 70's rock and roll! And Highway Star! Fire up the Trans Am!)
I may be in the minority here, but the live portion of "Ummagumma" is also notable. "Live Sh*t: Binge and Purge" may just take the cake for overall product, though.

I was going to say Side Two of Ummagumma, but was not sure one can note just one side of an album as a whole live album. However Side Two of Ummagumma is probably my favourite Pink Floyd out put ever.
^ It's great, it almost makes up for the studio part Really though, side one's not that bad, it's just not their strongest material. And that version of Saucerful Of Secrets is phenominal.

I have to ammend my earlier list.
NIRVANA - "unplugged" (say what you will about them, hate on an MTV record, whatever....It's GREAT!) THE MARS VOLTA - "Scabdates" (not a live album in the traditional sense but, still amazing!) MINISTRY - "In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up (LIVE)" (It just doesn't get any harder than this! And I mean that in every possible way! Check out the film! It's AMAZING!)

Karma for mentioning Nirvana's MTV Unlugged album. I don't really listen to/like Nirvana that much any more, but I still love this album. The raw emotion in Kurt's voice is phenomenal. "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" gets me every time.
The "In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up" tape is great, I agree... The best Industrial live tape I've seen is "Ain't It Dead Yet?" by Skinny Puppy. Such an incredible performance, Skinny Puppy has one of the coolest looking shows ever.

It is a great record, isn't it? Probably their finest moment, in my opinion. Karma for your exceptional taste! ;D
