Can't we all just get along...
Sorry had to throw that out there. As many others have said. If you don't like Kanye, skip it. If you don't like Metallica, skip it. Face it, if we all liked the same thing then Roo wouldn't be what it is. Plus, we would only need one stage. There are several stages to go to and enjoy. If you don't like the headliner, go back to your campsite, drink some beers and get ready for the late nights. Simple. I for one could care less about Kanye, but you know what, there are other things for me to do during that time slot.
So come on guys, we need to carry the love and fun we have at Roo to these boards. Honestly, if I was a newbie that came to these boards and read some of this stuff I would start thinking that most of us are complainers and somewhat confrontational. So let's bring the Roo vibe to these boards because we should all start getting in the "mood." Heck, it's only a little over a month away. Peace.
^Honestly I don't think Kanye or anyone else gets a pass on this kind of behavior. You act like that you will be made fun of. Like I said this has little to do with his music and a lot to do with his attitude. If anyone else did something like this I would be right on here talking bad about them.
I just hate the idea that people can only say positive things around here. Censorship sucks. Especially on a board dedicated to a Festival that advocates so much freedom.

Kanye coulda handled this differently and came off as classier, but this is how I see it, someone wrote something that criticized Kanyes work, so Kanye in turn writes something that critcized that authors work. Now I'm not saying this eye for an eye mentality is cool in the least, but I can't say I wouldn't want to lash out at critics that could cost me money. Bob Dylan is notorious for criticizing journalists, Ballad of a Thin Man is supposedly about a journalist Mr. Jones who thinks he knows everything but doesn't know a thing. All musicians lash out at journalists but people tend to give artists they like a free pass. In fairness to the journalist though, he did give him a B+, as a student with a 2.1 gpa id love some B+'s
sorry the custies (and the other confusing and all-encompassing stereotypes you use so often) started showing up. you know what? they are going to find the next thing you love so much.
on the plus side, it gives you another thing to complain about.
doubtful. unless metallica, tool, kanye, etc... start getting booked at all good, legend valley and the ledges. i just dont see it happening. ive met the owners of legend valley and the ledges and i can guarantee it wont happen there. id say its highly unlikely that it would ever happen at all good either. but hey i can always use something new to complain about.

When the lineup was released and I saw Kanye West on it, I didn't really give two shits about it. Putting all Bonnaroo lineup discussion aside (how its changed over the years, I prefer the older lineups, so putting that aside), I thought you know, I've never listened to Kanye's music but what the hell, I'll give him a chance. I was starting to get into whatever that Daft Punk song is called that he remixed "Harder, Bigger, Faster, Stronger" or something and I have to say that it was growing on me.
And now I read this whiny bs that he posted on his blog, and I have to say, I will definitely be as far away from this show as I can possibly be. F U Kanye, you're not perfect, nothing you do is perfect or will ever be, yeah, I'm sorry about what happened to your mom, but as far as music goes, do you really suck so bad that you have to take other people's songs and redo them yourself?
so whats the deal with is mom??? i dont care enough to look it up.
i watched that flashng lights video. and i still think he sucks.
also i was informed that i sing a kanye song when refering to a certain female friend. but i thought gold digger was jamie fox ( another incredible talent that should grace roo with his presence in the near future ) shows what i know ;D ill stop using those lyrics immediately
and remaking songs isnt always a bad thing. some of the deads greatest songs arent theirs. although i hate to bring up the dead to defend kanye in anyway. im sure he does it cuz he sux
^ She just died recently, of complications from a breast-lift and (I think) a tummy-tuck-type surgery.
The weird irony is that she did a lot to support his career when he was young, and he'd always mentioned her in his songs, and so forth. Then, when he got successful, he had the money to help her out, buy her a new house, give her money for things she wanted, etc...and then she died as an indirect result of that.

Alright, so, I'm done kidding around. I'll throw in my two cents. Ahem.
I'm a Kanye West fan. Next to Nas and Jay Z, he's probably my favorite rapper. I know, I know, being a fan of Kanye West around these parts won't give me much karma, but that's okay.
Yes, Kanye West is King D-ck of Dickhole Mountain. This is fact. This is established. And I'm okay with that. Why? Because I like his music and he puts on a great show.
The whole thing he does with being a major dickhead and all? That's what you call a gimmick. It riles people up. It gets him publicity. By being riled up by this, Kanye West has succeeded in his purpose: To offend you and yours.
His whole persona is that of a guy who don't give a (eff word here) what you think. That's what he does. That's what he's done from the beginning. I'm not sure how his latest act is all that surprising.
So, let's review: Kanye West = Great Rapper. Kanye West = Complete weiner. Kanye West = Will not ruin your Bonnaroo anymore than Jack Johnson will ruin mine.

well heres karma for your 2 cents! i respect your opinion. but dosent what i just quoted go against everything that roo was about??? thats the problem. if he was at lollapalooza or coachella i know i wouldnt be bitching. i doubt most others would either. shit if were gonna go after the i dont give a fuck rap crowd that puts on shows id rather see snoop and dre, or even kidrock or icp (damn its weird to say that. new roo is depressing)

Bonnaroo, to me, has always been about one thing and one thing alone: Good shows. And that, my friend, is something Kanye excels at. The peace, love, and etc. vibe is fine and dandy (and it'll still be there this year), but what really makes me go to Roo is the great shows.
As far as rather seeing Snoop/Dre/etc, that's all just a matter of opinion. I'd take Jay Z over Kanye any day, but I'm not complaining.

I'm done.
Hm, I can go with that. I wouldn't put him in company with Nas, but you can if you want to. He won't mess up anyone's Bonnaroo.
I'm surprised that people are making such a big deal out of this. I mean, when he was added, you said "he's a sonofabitch," and now that he's done this it's almost like people are surprised. What did you expect? I won't see him unless he doesn't conflict with anyone else I want to see, but: if Kanye West plays a set at Bonnaroo and you're not there to hear him, did it really happen?
^Well when someone acts like this I will make fun of them. Just because being a d***head is "schtick" that does not mean I have to condone it or like it. So we will see how many more people he has alienated with this recent move. I am sorry but telling someone who gave you a B+ to kill himself is a little over the horizon for bad boy behavior. I mean he has wandered into Andrew Dice Clay territory here, and yeah if the Diceman was at 'roo I would not boycott entirely but I would skip his show, and talk about what a odd thing that it was that he was invited in the first place, and I can do so with Kanye.

I don't like this post. Go kill yourself. Kidding, kidding.
Well, I'll say that I, as a Kanye fan, am not asking you to condone his actions or go to his show. In fact, I'd rather you not, so that I can have more room. I'll be the first to admit that this is a bit outrageous and a bit much, but I digress. Kanye is an excellent performer, above all things. He deserves to be there just as much as any other person on the list.
Besides. It's not like Kanye is the only dickhole on the list. Let's review! JFK of MSTRKRFT: While JFK was in Death From Above 1979, he ones pronounced jihad on James Murphy (of LCD Soundsystem, part owner of DFA (Death From Above Records) and told him that he should more or less kill himself. Reason? DFA records forced them to change their name from DFA to DFA1979.
Metallica: Let's not get started there...
Chris Rock: Let's not get started there, either. Too much.
Jack White: Beat the everliving hell out of Jason Stollsteimer of The Von Bondies over a faily silly production dispute. You can find the pictures on google. Not too pretty.
Death Cab: Badmouthed Roger Waters, Ringo Starr, and Billy Corgan. All in the same interview.
I could go on, if you'd like. Thing is, Kanye isn't the only bung hole on the list.

Sampling is an a musical technique that most every rapper uses, as well as a lot of techno artists and, occasionally, rock artists. If that makes Kanye a shitty musician, then I'm going to stop sampling beats in my techno tracks just in case someone thinks I suck for it.
Kanye is a hothead and definitely shouldn't personally insult critics and tell them to kill themselves, but I'm inclined to give him a pass because he is "the number one human being in music" at least according to himself.
Seriously, this probably isn't even in the top 5 for narcissistic Kanye outbursts, he is like a child with no filter for straining what comes out of his mouth. I still like his music though.

Well his music is not what this thread is about we have several threads that talk about him musically. We are talking about his personality, and so far it seems like he sucks as a human being. Like I said I am sure I will check his show out if for no other reason than to hold up a 4'x4' report card with a big B- on it.
I still don't see why it's that interesting, though. My point wasn't that people should leave him alone because maybe he's a nice guy, my point was that it shouldn't come as that much of a surprise. Of course he's a moron. Why is it so interesting to talk about a man's failures at life? Isn't there something positive about some musician that we could talk about instead?

Here are the quotes for the interview you mention: BEN GIBBARD: Roger Waters doing Dark Side of the Moon would be like Ringo performing Sgt. Pepper's. (Don't see how this is dickholish-- Gibbard is simply saying one isn't greater than the whole)
CHRIS WALLA: I sold my copy of Siamese Dream the day after seeing Smashing Pumpkins at Lollapalooza because Billy Corgan yelled at D'Arcy onstage. (IMO not dickholish at all, actually quite the opposite--deciding NOT to support dickholery.)
Just felt the need to stand up for my non-dickholish boys.
Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing I'd never done before. Watchin' a crowd roll in. Out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones I've never felt before...

Well if you think there is a better use of your time ignore this thread. If you think Kanye is a waste of time ignore his show. If you think he is a collosal dillweed post your opinion in this thread for others to enjoy.

Meant no offense with my comments, I quite like Death Cab, but their quote is a bit ill informed and makes them come off as a-s-sholes, in my personal opinion.
Seeing as Roger Waters wrote half, if not most, of the stuff on Dark Side of the Moon, the whole comment is pretty much worthless. And it comes off as though they're dismissing/insulting Roger Waters and Ringo Starr, both legendary musicians who far surpass anything Death Cab has ever done (in my personal opinion, of course), for no reason other whatsoever.
As for the Billy Corgan bit, I can understand that a bit better, but it still seems pretty silly to me and came off as a bit too pretentious.

^^ I completely get you on this. I think I just read it differently than you. When he said "doing Dark Side of the Moon," I took it to mean performing the album (which, you've got to admit, would be difficult for just one person). And, correct me if I'm wrong, you're reading it more as writing/creating. And who knows, we, unfortunately weren't the ones interviewing them, so we have no way to clarify.
