Just happened to be over at my folks' house with their cable TV, just happened to be flipping by VH1, just happened to have "Best Week Ever" on, and they were talking about this incident. I was amused.
I also read an Op-Ed piece in my local paper about this and how Kanye needs to get over himself. Doubly amused.
He generates 6 pages on this board just talking about him. For this kind of publicity He must be doing something right.
Or something completely wrong. Just because a group of people discuss someone and their decisions do not mean that they were 'good or right' decisions. I can recall multiple times in my life where others and myself discussed greatly about individuals such as Joseph Stalin, or Richard Ramirez. Did they do right? That's up to you, but I have to strongly disagree with your post.
As for passionate people playing passionate music, I agree on that. However, stampering, whining, and telling the reviewer to commit suicide is simply childish and pathetic. He reminds me of the good looking whore in the class who sucks up to the professor in return for an A. No knowledge or experience gained there. The way I see it - Kanye is a great producer, but needs to get over himself and his scripted tears.
I never ventured that the act itself was right, though your misplaced assumptions tend to go in that direction. In the music business any press is good press. The point is his name is out there bad or good and on the tongues of the people. Yourself included. that's the point I was making.
^ I don't buy the any press is good press argument. Ask Britney Spears, hell ask Hannah Montana, or R. Kelley. One of the great things about the internet age is that major stars now get their antics reported on. When that happens they are then judged by an at large community, if it turns on them they go down. I am not saying Kanye is that bad yet but it is certainly the track he is on.
Just to clarify, I've read on multiple sites (including Kanye's actual blog which I read before I heard anything about this issue) that he did not actually tell the reporter to kill himself in his post...if he did, I agree, that's over the top.
As far as him being a baby, I know personally that if I work my ass off for something like a test or project or whatever(such as he did on this tour and his albums), and a teacher gives me a B...I get pretty pissed. So, in a way I really understand and respect him getting upset, because I know that he's only getting upset because he wants to be the greatest. I can imagine if I owned a business (well, more like a large corporation, because Kanye isn't exactly a corner store in the music industry) that I put everything into and worked my whole life for, and someone rated it a B that I would be upset as well. And honestly, I think that that passion that he has is the reason that he is great...the energy he brings to the stage is unmatched by any band or artist I've seen so far (Dispatch at MSG was close, but still not quite the same).
Anyway...if you don't like him or his music, stay in your tents and don't show up with signs trying to piss him off and ruin other peoples' shows.

Yet the backlash still keeps your celeberity much like Ms. Spears. Even though the world looks down on her for her transgressions. They still love to do it. That's why she's on every other trash mag and still on the tongue of every other perez hilton out there. People love dramatics people lve watching the rise and the fall.. As long as you ar ein the press you still have a foothold on society at large... As for R. Kelly he's done depolorable things yet still remains a solid selle rin the industry. SO I will have to politley disagree.
Stay in your tents... Let that one idiot that works for superfly and decided it would be a great idea to book kayne know.. there will be plenty of anti-kayne art on the wall this year, you have my PERSONAL guarantee..
^ Karma for that, be careful though this thread is Karma death. Those that really want him there are fanatic about it. Personally like I have said before I think he is a whiny crybaby with the musical sensibilities of a tone deaf emu. But it is Bonnaroo and we are all entitled to a opinion. As to staying in my tent. No way if there is nothing else I want to see conflicting with him it is B+ beach balls all the way.
Fargo barely has more than 5,000 people under the age of 70 living there. And those 5k wouldn't leave their homes for anything less that a farming equipment or Billy Rae Cyrus show. Don't think his "people" did enough research on the local demographic.
(No offense to any NoDakians, I spent my summers there as a kid and my family still lives there so I know what's up.)
Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing I'd never done before. Watchin' a crowd roll in. Out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones I've never felt before...

i still say it makes him come off as a whiney hey nanny nanny. ive been to see shows in blizzards that 15 people showed up to and the band still put on a killer show for us. ive been to many many many WAY undersold shows. they dont screw all of their fans because they dont feel like enough tix are sold and they arent going to make as much money. they put on the show they were supposed to for the people who paid for tix. just another point as to why a certain part of the music industry shouldnt be welcomed by festivals.

Screw Kanye. I am going to be watching my main man Levon Helm crush it at The Other Tent and then make my way over to get a front and center spot for PJ while baby Kanye does his weaksauce show.

From Wikipedia

I am guessing they have a lot of old folks homes then? I mean anywhere with that many people should be able to fill a Kanye show he is the greatest entertainer on earth right?
Memorial Day weekend conflicts could have hurt, he said. Local colleges being out of session may have played a role, but the dome’s last hip-hop show – 50 Cent in August 2003 – drew more than 10,000 during the summer, he said.

Bonnaroo is for the fans. If Kanye cannot even play a show for his fans because there aren't enough of them there, then that's just childish and uncharismatic, and quite frankly just plain un-Roo like. I'm sure that any other band on the line up at Roo would have been more than happy to entertain 3500 fans in Fargo no matter what kind of crowd they were hoping would show up.
3500 fans at a show is 3500 opportunities to improve somebody's day/night/life, and any performer that will forgo that opportunity loses all of my respect. What if he walks out on the stage at Roo because there's only 4,000 people infront of him? Will he walk off the stage and cancel the show because he thinks that the majority of the 80,000 people should be there watching him? It sure sounds like it...

To be fair......he's not the first artist to cancel a show because of low ticket sales. I know 3500 is still a good amount of people......but they were aiming for something higher and didn't get it......but he's not the first artist to do it.

I totally agree that Kanye will be fine at Roo. There's plenty of people that want to take advantage of the opportunity to see him. I just think that as far as mindset goes and personality-wise, Kanye is as far from Bonnaroo as you can possibly get, which is unfortunate.
That doesn't mean he isn't entertaining and won't put on a good show... it just means there has to be an adequate number of people infront of him before he considers unleashing his raw talent upon the spectators ;D
Many people do not understand how live shows work. Artists rarely pull out of live shows unless they really have to because they have to pay a large penalty to the promoter if they miss a show. If shows are canceled because of low ticket sales it is almost always the promoter who cancels the show because they would lose more money than letting the show go on. Big name acts like Kanye get a percentage of sales but are guaranteed a certain minimum so if the sales are not good enough then a promoter may decide to cut their loses and just pay any penalties because they were not going to make money anyway.
I am not sure what happened in Fargo however Kanye would not have pulled out because of low ticket sales. Either Kanye really did have a scheduling issue or this is a case where ticket sales are not working and the promoter is getting out of it and having to pay Kanye off.
Now this being said it does occasionally happen that a "Scheduling Issue" is actually a much better offer. If one of Kanye's agents got an offer that would make him more money even after paying all the penalties involved then he could cancel the show to go somewhere else.
