Can you explain to me what happened with Phil and Kanye? What did he say on stage? Did Kanye make him get off the stage?
basically, yes. Phil announced at 330 that there was a change in schedule (keep in mind phil was scheduled to play until 4, and expected even later) and that "Kanye west is doing a really big light show on the main stage" so they were cutting it short and would play their encore and that's it. Phil sounded pretty choked up saying it, and the crowd was not too pleased with it and I can honestly say it is probably the first time Phil Lesh has ever faced a crowd of thousands of boos in his life.
and then kanye didn't even start for another freakin' hour after that anyways

I was very depressed after hearing it. I was expecting his typical donor rap/band intro... but instead heard him announce kanye, and even worse... people booing Phil Lesh. both are tragedies and should never happen

at least we can tell ourselves that people were booing the situation and not Phil

Yeah, I agree the boos are directed towards the situation and anywhere except Phil... but still it sucks to be on stage looking out at thousands of pissed off people booing. I've actually removed that "track" of organ donor talk/band intro from my computer so I never have to hear it
well hearing all the stories of fights, shoving, crushing crowds and kanye im so freeking happy i bailed from roo... and i know i waited until there was no hope left. but im so happy that there are other fests out there that made it so roo could even happened. but roo took that and abused the scene and now roo is is a joke. it can never go back. it will either be an mtv shitshow wiith the problems that go along with fests like that until woodstock type poop happens or it will go under from everyone saying quack it. there are only so many radio bands out there. and they put on the same show everytime. the true festie scene bands have fans that want to see 500 shows. radio bands its only cool for a time or two. but i guess there is a whole new generation of young mtv radio kids who dont know any better looking for a way to get quacked up, act retarded, and celebrate graduation coming around every year. god im glad i finally broke ties with my love of roo. but in reality roo dumped me. and thousands more that helped build it. not only that but everyone hates superfly now. good luck with thtat property and throwing more fests, because i know no one thats in a rush to invest their money in anything superfly is ever going to do again. they are the walmart of festie land. only with less of a future. i put giving superfly money right up there with my taxes killing innocent people in iraq. not quite as bad, but its still disgusting!. im so freeking happy that all good is around the bend. good music, good people, and goodtimes. the mighty dollar takes a back seat and i cant wait. no 300 dollar ticket. no radio/mtv music and the a$$hole artists and fans that crap brings, no security jacking everyone, no cops... damn i cant wait!!!
hey all you not-sees???? can you see now? the journey is complete. "we have arrived" isnt the diversity beautiful and is it safe to say kanyes a Summers breeze now. roo came and went. hes still a Summers breeze and a horrible performer (i wont even call him a musician) and hey the wish list is in for next year... its lookin like tenacious d and weezer head the list. sounds like another diverse time!!!!!
And just think of how happy we'll be when you bail from InfoRoo! I can't imagine deciding I won't visit, say, a local store and then still spend my time hanging around outside of it.
Anyway, remarking that a concept of diversity has failed because a rap act went on late is actually pretty petty. Did diversity fail because the Allmans didn't appear? Moreover, had said rap act come on late and no one reacted, THAT would be disappointing. But Kanye got the boos he deserved, and for that matter he got an AP story headline that is career-slapping.
Kanye will no doubt survive, as any act with enough ego and talent would. However his live show will likely not survive, especially if it happens again.
But will Bonnaroo survive? You bet. In fact, the very idea that most have banded together to show a unified distaste will help ensure the Roo vibe is properly checked. Will Phil return? Of course- even us layman's waaaaaaaay outside the truth of this situation and the real details know enough to know Roo never wanted it to turn out this way (that one public tale of the volunteer who overheard Roo higher-ups yelling at Kanye's manager-- BEFORE Roo-- helps supply that idea).
When the smoke cleared we returned home the rest of the world was in many ways celebrating Bonnaroo's triumph of multiple-legendary-shows (some career-defining/cementing) while roundly reporting that Roovians took care of their own in reaction to Kanye.
Me? I was at Charli2na as I had planned to be for weeks and had an awesome show. Charli2na had played at 3pm in Chattanooga and then approx 12 hours later taken the stage into the morning at Roo. Despite a massive rap act on the main stage, thousands packed a tent to see an african american rapper, on his first major solo tour, backed by a jam band. THAT is diversity. Kirk Hammett of a metal band joining a gypsy accordion player and Les Claypool is diversity. And Dark Star, Lez Zep & Vampire Weekend (spanning the generations, lifestyles and genders) is diversity... And to that I say:

Well put. Can we just end this thread on that note?

^^Really?? I totally can.
I can't believe, however, that there has been no mention from Superfly about it. I haven't even seen a "tell us what you thought of the festival" email like I got last year... Perhaps that's coming in a few days/weeks

i just can't get why he'll take the time to make death threats to a B+ review of his show but won't even acknowledge that his fans are calling for his head on a spike. guess it's beneath him

I don't think any of his fans are calling for his head on a spike...

<----yo
heh... Ok so maybe a few fans want his head on a stick. But for the most part a lot of the hatin' is not coming from his fans, but rather the opposite folk.
