Would anyone be able to hook me up with an Umph CD or two? I've only been able to acquire Safety in Numbers (which I love) but really want some other stuff. I've been trying to find (buy or download) Anchor Drops for sooooo long. I love the song Bullhead City. This will be my second official time seeing Umph but this time i'm much more of a fan than the first time when I just heard they were good.

I don't want to start a whole big argument, but I just don't get how anyone can compare Umphrey's to the Disco Biscuits. First of all, they're completely different bands. But, Umphrey's is just miles ahead in terms of talent and diversity in their music. They play EVERY style you can imagine. The Biscuits bore me after half an hour, but to each their own. Don't take this rant personally Biscuits fans lol =)
Umphrey's is also part of my biggest conflict with Minus the Bear. Anyone have this conflict with me? Minus is UNBELIEVABLE. I will probably split my time up between the two but it sucks to have to miss any of either band.

i agree... but the point i was making is that hardcore Bisco fans are always like "bisco is where it's at and everyone else sux!" twas just another one of my failed jokes...
I really wanted to see Minus the Bear, but i'll survive... Umphreys all the way!

Yeah it's really tough for me bc both bands are probably in my top 15 favorite bands (not at Roo...period.)
Umphrey's is probably a better band live (I mean who's better than Umph's?) but I reallllly wanted to catch Minus live at Roo. I think they're going to put on a ridonkulous set. Plus, I've been around Minus since they were just an up and coming band and now they're playing at Roo! It's like watching your kids grow up to do something special lol.

Bisco owns Umphrey's imo. I like both but Bisco just has this sound that Umph can't touch in my book. with bisco i have found you kind of either get it or you don't.
UM is probably my favorite band--seen em 11 times-- but I think the Biscuits have the potential to put on a better show, that being said the Biscuits have more off nights where Umph is more consistent imho

Archives has a buttload of shows too that you can stream before dl'ing. I'm not a musician, but have thought myself a pretty good judge of talent, and from what i gather I don't really see how Biscos is on Umphrey's level talent wise, or in potential to put on a sick show. Umphreys jams are pretty genius imo. (jimmy stewart) Then again, it all is really a matter of preference.

I would put Jake and Kris up against almost any guitar/drum duo at Bonnaroo this year. These guys can really play. I love the slot they got this year and hope they gain a good group of new fans.
Bisco and Umph are both great... it's kinda hard to compare them, they are very different.
Bisco... jamtronica Umph... prog-jamrock
if anyone needs some quality Umph PM me... I can hook you up
Fixed. I think a lot of jamband fans are suprised at how heavy Umphrey's can be, which is what i love about them. Definitely expecting at least some Metallica teases at the show.
I just got back from Summer Camp, and they will bring it no matter what. They played Shine On You Crazy Diamond for an encore. Incredible...
You know, I was always pretty indifferent to Umphrey's and I've seen them a few times now. I watched them at summer camp on i-clips last weekend and they fucking BLEW ME AWAY!!! Seriously, I watched the encore of the same show again at like 1 a.m. the next night. I'm a convert!
For those interested in getting some more Umphrey's music, the band just released these shows on Itunes. I guess these are their favorite shows of '07 or what they consider the best. These shows were selected by the band and their crew. This is from their website:
Umphrey's McGee has released the first round of a digital-only live series titled "CompendiUM." Available through iTunes, "CompendiUM" offers live recordings of Umphrey's top ten shows of 2007. Included in the series are the band's Boulder, Colorado show from March 6; their Portland, Oregon concert on June 7; the middle night of the most recent New Year's Eve run in Chicago; and seven others.
CompendiUM: Live in Boulder, Colorado - 03.06.07 CompendiUM: Live in Pontiac, Michigan - 03.16.07 CompendiUM: Live in Madison, Wisconsin - 03.22.07 CompendiUM: Live in Rochester, New York - 04.15.07 CompendiUM: Live in Portland, Oregon - 06.07.07 CompendiUM: Live in Portsmouth, Virginia - 06.28.07 CompendiUM: Live in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota - 07.19.07 CompendiUM: Live in Bloomington, Inidiana - 11.09.07 CompendiUM: Live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin - 11.10.07 CompendiUM: Live in Chicago, Illinois - 12.30.07

can't wait for the metallica teases...don't they already cover seek and destroy?

They have played several Metallica songs in the past, i'm thinking some Metallica is guarenteed, maybe we'll even see a Hammet or Trujillo guest appearance. Is that Pontiac show one of the Belew ones?

Sweet^. I have all those shows, and i remember one being the best by far, but without listening I couldn't say which one. If that Pontiac show is it, get it.
So now that I'm officially going to Bonnaroo I just wanted to say that THIS is the show I will definitely be at... and I want people to come to find me here... heck, we'll all find each other.

I think one of the main reasons Umph is playing such an early set is that they will show up during other shows, possibly the super jam. Umph is a mainstay at Bonnaroo and shouldn't be taken lightly. Also the band is used to mixing it up with guest appearances, including the disco biscuits, moe., and many others. Besides their main set and their short stay on the sonic stage, I'm willing to put money on more appearances during the festival
I will be at this show, but I like to be up close and personal with Brendan, Jake & the boys, (left of the soundboard is a little to impersonal for me since I've been following Umph since they were playing 20 person venues).
As far as Umph being involved with other shows, I wouldn't be surprised to see them at other sets, like The Disco Biscuits late night set (hell yea maybe a repeat of the DUMB show of '06) or possibly one of them in the Superjam but I doubt that one.
