I wonder how much of that trailer will actually make it into the movie. It still shows February is the release date but I'm pretty sure they got pushed back to June so they could finish all the post production on budget.

Couldn't agree more. The teaser last night gave me a glimmer of hope, but the trailer quickly quashed that.
So, many issues beginning with the generic action film look and feel.
My two biggest issues though are:
- Jake is convincing RD to save the Tower. WTF? - RF claiming to kill everyone near RD. The exact opposite is true and is a huge part of what makes Roland and his quest so tortured.
Also, the inevitable Post-HoE explanation for any difference is such a fucking cop-out.

It's almost unrecognizable from the first book. Way to much emphasis on NYC to not have Susanna and Eddie in it yet.
I understand the need to switch some stuff around for the movies but that trailer doesn't sell me on them getting the heart of the story right. Like at all.
I read the entire series about two years ago. I want very badly to like this movie, and will be really disappointed if it sucks. That being said, I don't think it's supposed to be a retelling of the original book series. Some internet musings have pointed out that King's tweet a while back that had a picture of the Horn of Eld suggests that this is a sequel to the book series.
I really don't think it would even be possible to adapt the books Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter-style, with a series of movies capturing the intricate world-building in the books. Hopefully they're able to capture some of the wonder of the series in a format that can appeal to a broader audience.

It's definitely "another turn of the wheel", which to me seems like a pretty lazy way to explain away the fatc that they are just going to fuck with continuity, timeline, and characters as much as they see fit.

I mean, if you like the end of the story than this is really an amazing opportunity to adapt it and add to the cannon. Of course, Hollywood is highly likely to fuck it up but it's not inherently lazy. They would be fucking with continuity, timelines and characters regardless.
I'm not a fan of that trailer at all and I see a lot of warning signs but I've been behind that story telling choice from the moment I heard it. Here's to hoping.

I guess I disagree. I don't see that him having HoE changes everything to the point being represented here. I felt it (along with however many iterations before that revelation) represented an incremental change in his path to the DT. I guess it's all up to the readers interpretation though, so no wrong answer. Unless your answer is Arcel & Goldsmith's interpretation.

Who's to say the movie is the very next turn after the books? There could have been any number of turns, each with small changes that led to the movie's turn. Really, I think doing it this way is probably the only way they could do it that I could potentially truly love it.
But having said that, I do agree that the trailer has a generic action movie feel to it that did not get me particularly excited for the movie.

Early reviews are in. It's as we feared.
Glad I didn't allow myself to get very excited for this. I'll probably still go see it If anything in the small hope that they still do a TV series and it's actually good.
