Hey everyone - significant changes ahead! (Heck, I'm still weirded out that Roo isn't on Father's Day.) VIP gets not only pre-sale this year, but also payment plan. But perhaps the biggest news is the slightly cheaper price and no meals included (except for the party; with meal packages coming later).
VIP TICKETS GO ON-SALE SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 2008 AT 12:00 PM EASTERN.
VIP tickets to the 2008 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival are priced at $1,169.50 per pair.
From this year: VIP tickets for the 2009 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival will be available through our special holiday pre-sale starting on Thursday, December 4th, 2008 at 12:00 PM eastern for $1,349.50 per pair plus applicable fees.
Which means close to $200 more a pair, and now without food. Service charges also went up from $67.10 per pair last year to $72.65 a pair (not much at all, but still an increase).
Basically, since it looks as if they aren't discounting VIP at all for the holiday sale, I'm waiting until I see a lineup. With no food included, the bands play a bigger part in my decision.
I have to admit I'm rather unhappy with the the significant price hike coupled with removing included meals. I don't think I can justify to myself going VIP now, if at all.
I only ate at the tent twice, so it's not a huge issue for me...but I'm curious as to how they are justifying a price hike in the face of providing less.

Yeah, that's my thing, too. I ate little of the food (who really pigs out at Roo?), but they're removing something that's kind of a core service of VIP and upping the price by that much?
See? I can't keep from bitching about it. Been pouty since they sent the email.
I'm in total agreement. I couldn't care less if they offer food, but don't take away a service/benefit AND increase the price; for some folks, that'll be a major dealbreaker.
Mayhap they should have explained if they were providing something extra to tempt potential VIPers into buying tix during pre-sale.
I do VIP every year, and this [lack of food provided] isn't a deal breaker for me. We bought our VIP package at noon, right when they went on sale, just like we always do. Even without the line-up, we know we are gonna go, and we know we are gonna go VIP.
To be honest, it's not all about the bands. It's the experience, the neighbors and the vibe of the whole weekend that just makes it so worthwhile.
I hope to see you all there and I know VIP will kick ass, just like it always does.
I really think that so many people have complained about the past two years of VIP that they are really gonna go out of their way to make it special for us this year.
This will be my 4th VIP, and I've never had a bad experience, and that's why I keep coming back... but I have a really good feeling about this year. I think it's gonna be spectacular.
My group and I went GA in 2007 and VIP in 2008. While we can not complain about our GA experience we had such a great time in VIP that we have already purchased our VIP tix for 2009.
Being able to quickly and easily move between the campsite and the venues was great. We enjoyed many more sets while still being able to relax at our campsite anytime we wanted to. Also being able to relax and shower before latenight made the latenight experience so much more enjoyable.

I'm trying to get everyone together that is VIP 2009... make sure you keep in touch!
Yesterday I bought in for my 4th consecutive VIP Roo experience. In 2006, my first trip to Roo's VIP, I paid $1170 for a package plus an RV pass. This year, I bought a package and an RV pass for $1560. That's almost a $400 price increase in less than 3 years. In A BAD ECONOMY NO LESS! In that timeframe I have seen them expand the walls of VIP, making it a watered down experience.
Because I tend to look at what these things mean from a business perspective, what this price increase says to me is 1 of 2 things (potentially both). A sharp increase could be because they intend to shrink VIP back to a manageable size. The elimination of the food tent tells me that this is probably not a realistic idea. From a business standpoint, you are looking for growth, not contraction. There is no reason to sell less VIP tickets than you sold last year. So contracting VIP only makes sense if you are responding to hundreds of emails and bad reviews that said VIP had grown too big.
What I really think is the more plausible scenario is that Superfly has booked some big name headliners, and they need to foot the bill. IF the rumors of Phish and Springsteen are true, they could have potentially have already spent upwards of $5 million of the budget on 2 bands. It would be money well spent because it would all but insure a sell-out. And if they did spend that much money up front, then it only makes sense to do a pre-sale and start to re-coup some of that spent revenue.
Either way, I think it spells good things for the upcoming year. I can't see them spiking prices by $200 in one year and delivering a festival product that is not worthy of the money. I have never left the farm unsatisfied or thinking I overpaid for what I got.

This place is great! I just went to my first ROO last year and had no idea what to expect. me and 5 others piled into a trailblazer with all our shit and drove 19 hours to tennesee. i plan on going VIP this year, as last year i went GA. I'm wondering if its a better party in VIP. i figure with showers and people that can afford to go VIP, it might be more fun. Am i true or just being stupid? thanks...

well boston roo-er, yes.
driving from MA to TN, you do not want to be camping an hour from the gate. it's worth it. even with no food this year.
went VIP last year and we had a very good time, although not so much for our stuck-up neighbors...can't wait for 2009, put me on the list for InforooVIP09, I can cook, make coffee and give a mean massage.
I did it last year and no regrets. I am doing Ga this year though, too many festivals to little time. Also the price difference between this year and last year will pay for an All Good early Bird Ga ticket. Honestly though I live around here and it is just easier to rent a van get a cart and build myself a palace in tent only. It is more work especially since I will still be hauling stuff between tent and car a bit, but honestly it is not 500$ worth of work and that is the per person ticket difference without food.
AFter being in BFE four straight years in a row, I refuse to go to the roo unless its VIP. I need to see the line-up first though, as do most who want to go VIP. Gime Phish, The Boss, and Some sick sick Latenight headliners and i'm sold.

I agree w/ all of that except for the venue access part and the long entrance wait...ok maybe I changed my own mind...that's worth a lot!!!
