hey guys! just got back from seeing ben sollee here in austin tonight. for those not familiar, he's the cellist from abigail washburn's sparrow quartet, which also features bela fleck.
he hung out before and after the show, and i asked him about any festivals. both his merch guy and ben himself confirmed he would be at bonnaroo doing a solo show.
also, ben is currently co-producing a new album set to come out this fall with a young guy named daniel martin moore(check him out...great voice), and will be featuring jim james in several of the tracks. so maybe we see a jim james appearance??
in any case, ben sollee is worth seeing regardless. he's just as amazing live as he is on his albums.
edit: dangit! i forget to add the second "e" in his last name in the thread title. someone wanna fix it for me pleeeeeease? ;D

That is great news!
I was going to start a thread speculating that very idea, since he has experience playing at Roo before. 2008 was a great year for Ben, so it's a great addition as far as I'm concerned.

ahh...james i see you are from ben's hometown
he said they are going to be doing a bike race from lexington to bonnaroo this year, stopping at the venues he's playing along the way. i would love to sit and talk with the guy all day.

I had the opportunity to talk with both Ben and Daniel Martin Moore when they came through Covington, Kentucky a couple weeks ago... Both are phenomenal people and phenomenal musicians... This would be a nice addition to the bottom half of the lineup
Also, for those interested, visit the link below for a Lounge Act Session on WOXY.com that Ben performed a few weeks ago:

Ben Sollee solo is amazing. He is the andrew bird of cello playing to me. I am very excited to hear if he gets a tent show and if he does play the weekend he will be a early day slot which is perfect for him and his music.

yup...DMM was with him last night...i really enjoyed him! daniel said he'd be in france at the time of bonnaroo, though. the show would just be ben and his band.
I really dont see someone like Ben Sollee fitting into a cafe.
I love Ben Sollee and am super happy about this add, but he is totally going to be a Cafe add. You may like him alot (like me) but he doesn't have that big of a fanbase. I mean last year had more popular bands on the Cafe stage last year than Ben, and hell if the Avetts played the Cafe stage in '06, Ben will definetly playing the Cafe stage.
Great, let's just keep that going. While we're at it, why not kill one of those mounted security horses that roam around, and beat it for a while? It'd amount to about the same thing.
i don't care if it's beating a dead horse. it's still funny.

He's from Louisville, but yeah he recorded 'Learning To Bend' here in Lexington(which I actually got to sit in on a few sessions of). Yeah he's a nice dude.

while i HOPE he doesn't play a cafe act, i was surprised by the VERY small crowd that showed up for him in austin. then again, it was a wednesday night, so who knows. not to mention he could easily have guests come up with him(bela fleck is already on the lineup).

hmmmmm...coulda sworn he said he was from lexington. oh well...i'll enjoy him nonetheless
Daniel Martin Moore would make for an amazing cafe act. A nice upcoming folk-esque singer/songwriter. So would William Elliot Whitmore and Horse Feathers and Loch Lomond.
