I want to specifically mention Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady and Barry Mitterhof of Hot Tuna coming out to play with Mule to play Death Don't Have No Mercy. One of the greatest moments of the Mule show. Jorma had hinted earlier that day at the Sonic Stage that he might join Mule, but it was still a surprise to me when it actually happened.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

We were just talking in another thread about Adrian Belew, so I must reiterate that his unannounced presence with Primus late night in '04 standing in a field of mud was NICE.
If we are still allowed to include "collaborations" then I must also include Andrew Bird with My Morning Jacket during that marathon late-night set in '06.
If I'm not mistaken, John Mayer played with Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters a few years back and melted some faces with his guitarwork... Yes, I'm talking about the same John Mayer, and yes the man can shred

I saw the guy next to me have his brain melted when Tom Morello came out at Tool, he yelled "TOM MORELLO" at me like 6 times, and he was a total stranger.

haha, you should have messed with him and been like, "Tom Who?"
He probably would have flipped his shit on you, and given you his whole biography.
that sounds like a pretty incredible guesting appearance.
Same with Andrew Bird with MMJ.
I wish I could have seen both of those.
My favorite one was Eddie Vedder with Jack Johnson.

I would say Tom Morello at Tool because I told all my friends that there would be a chance and they all doubted me but the look on there faces was priceless.

Hahaha this so might have been me! My friend was laying down when he came out, heard them say it and shot up to his feet. We then proceeded to jump around holding hands and screaming "TOOOOOOOM MOOORREEEELLLLLOOOOO!!!!!!!!" at anyone who would listen
