Also, the painting that Walt points out in the hotel was in his hospital room after his fugue state.
There were lots of throwbacks or recurring camera angles/scenes/lines. "We're gonna make a lot of money together" -Tuco said that to Walt back in the first season "Learn to take yes for an answer" -Mike said that to Walt -The fly -The overhead shot of him getting an MRI -Telling Skyler important things while she's doing dishes. "I'll do the treatment" > "I'm out" -The punched paper towel dispenser and the best one: -The shots of the water hose, wind chime, and bug crawling was also done at the beginning of season 2

I'm sure there's more.
Apparently the painting Walt was staring at while with Tod's uncle was the same painting he was staring at in season one at the doctor's.
Yeah, I can't remember it either. I think the handwriting is he same as that notebook pictured above so it's would be easy to prove the connection for Hank. I could possibly see Walt trying to say it came from Gretchen (don't know her maiden name though) but that is a long shot.

Also when Mike and Walt go to the bar together Walt drinks his straight while Mike has his on the rocks, then in this episode Walt drinks on the rocks (minerals Marie)
Anyone else think he decides to do quite/walk away from the business after he gets the news that his cancer is back and he only has a short time to live anyway.
Definitely. He was suddenly genuinely real with Jesse with their reminiscing and giving him the money.
Anyone else slightly paranoid during the pool scene at the end with Jr. pushing Holly around? They've had her in that pink bear outfit this season, but maybe that was just Gilligan f*cking with us. Either way it had me distracted that whole scene until Hank went to the bathroom.

Ok, now for the longer more rambling post about this episode.
Walt - I am surprised about the lack of speculation about the MRI during the episode. Sure, Skyler asked him to quit, but he didn't actually make a decision to quit (or give Jesse the money) until after the MRI, correct? If the cancer is back, I could totally see him wanting to try to make things right before he goes out. If you think about it, nothing else would really have the impact on him to cause such a radical change in his outlook. Skyler has asked him to quit plenty of times. He already had the chance to get $5 million without another day of work which is enough to live on for quite some time, so I don't think the stack of cash (though enormous) would sway him like that. All he has to do is try to mend things (like he did with Skyler and Jesse this episode) for a little until it looks pretty steady then drop the cancer bomb on them.
Walt pt 2 - As previously pointed out, I agree that the last scene was like a perfect storm brewing over Walt. There is so much ominous stuff on the horizon that there is no way him bailing will as easy as he would like it to be. Hank knows now. If movies have taught me anything, I am sure the Czechs and the Phoenix crew are not just going to be okay with their supply being cut off. Now, if he goes back in for any reason, Skyler is going to lose her sh*t with the possibility of her taking the kids and leaving.
Hank - I like what EAP said about Hank. I wonder if he won't turn Walt in. He saw what happened to his predecessor who let a NO NO WORD!!! kingpin operate under his nose for years, and Gus was just an acquaintance. Walt is his damn brother-in-law. The case is in the past, and Hank is the only one who really cares about it getting closed out. It'd be easy to just let it drift by. Lacking that, he may give Walt an ultimatum to leave town. New England is about as far away from NM as you can get and still be in the US. To go further, say Walt leaves town. He (and maybe the family) are out of reach for the Phoenix crew and anyone else who would want to do them harm. They go after Hank since he can't leave, and Walt has to come back and try to take vengeance since Hank let him run rather than arresting him. This all does get tarnished a little with Hank's use of the term "monsters" when speaking about "Heisenberg" in this episode.
Holly - I am glad to see I was not the only one who was freaking out about her wearing a pink outfit in the final scene. I kept envisioning a knock at the door and whoever answered it getting shot.
Loose ends - Do those 10 guys they montage assassinated have other associates? I wonder if that could come back to bite Walt. Also, Todd's family didn't look like the most trustworthy people on earth. As touched on in Walt pt 2, how is Lydia going to feel about the money train getting shut down? I don't think she has the backbone to turn Walt in, but she could certainly cause some problems for him. Lastly, the cooking and dealing montage took up three months of time. This leaves us with just shy of 9 months to go before the flash forward.
Edit: I am so excited Boardwalk Empire and Sons of Anarchy are coming back soon to fill my TV void.

Dave - I think Walt's cancer definitely is back. If I recall correctly in the opening scene of the season he is coughing more than he has been, which I think is a sign it's back.
I was definitely expecting a sniper to pick off someone at the pool scene, or Walt Jr. to have a car wreck, or Holly to fall into the pull. I'm much happier with the ending we got.
I don't believe the 10 people assassinated will come back to bite Walt in anyway, but Lydia, Phoenix crew, and Todd with his spider jar will all definitely play a role somehow.
Holly to fall into the pull. I'm much happier with the ending we got.
I was totally expecting Walt Jr to trip or something when he was pushing her next to the pool. There has never been a more nerve racking happy scene in TV ever. I agree that the ending we got was better. It left the season on such a high point in tension.
Damn, what an episode! I watched it w/Mayo & we barely breathed the entire time! I wondered if there was any significance to the one prison dude going out in a blaze of glory, compared to the method used on the others. Why that way? Why that guy? These are the things I mulled over for hours afterward...along with "How much money was in that pile exactly?!?"
And yeah, that pool scene was an absolute nail-biter!
Warming Glow runs sh*t at Breaking Bad analysis. This article has 9 open questions for Season 5B. Be warned. It has those same "bet you didn't see that" spoilers from the first episode that they mentioned in a previous article.
I love the theory about Walt leaving the book out in hopes of getting caught, that's something I didn't consider before. Also like the idea of Jesse being the hero. Not sure how I feel about if Walt were to help the DEA. I don't know how happy I'd be with Walt doing another 180 back into a good guy. Seems almost a little cheesy. I'm sure Vince will make any ending great.

Anybody know Gretchen's maiden name? I feel like with how careful Walt is, the only way he would have left that out is if he felt it was unrelated to his dealings.

Yellow shirt = no deep meaning. We just over-analyze everything as fans of this awesome show lol
As Breaking Bad fans continue to parse Sunday's mid-season finale, extracting anything that smacks of foreshadowing, one particular detail has emerged as a talking point. In the words of a widely reblogged Tumblr post: "The most shocking thing about last night’s Breaking Bad finale was Marie’s yellow shirt." As sure as baby Holly is always dressed in pink, Walt's sister-in-law is forever wearing purple. Yet in the nail-biting domestic scene that closed out the episode, her blouse was yellow — literally, the color on the opposite end of the spectrum. A "wearing yellow" meme quickly emerged on Reddit, where a heated discussion is taking place about the color's significance. (Is it a "danger color"? Or might it symbolize a "link to the past"?) On Vulture, where Matt Zoller Seitz noted the costume choice in his recap, the dominant theory seems to be that Marie is pregnant. "The mention of prenatal pills + the yellow shirt (spring, rebirth, things blooming)," theorized commenter MGE.
Not wanting to experience another lily-of-the-valley moment (how did we miss it?), Vulture rang up Breaking Bad costume designer Jennifer Bryan to try to ferret out the significance, but she was amused by the curious yellow obsession. "I use yellow as a relief color for her, so it's not purple, purple, purple all the time," Bryan explained. "You'll notice sometimes she wears a yellow tank underneath something. There's no deep hidden meaning — not this time." Marie's shirt, in other words, was an un-purple herring, meaning nothing. (Either that or next year we will find ourselves sitting on the toilet, realizing that Bryan had duped us.) But for now, if you'll excuse us, we're going back to searching out death references in Leaves of Grass.

haha I'm SO far behind. I just completed episode 2 of season 1 last night...lol
I'm actually jealous, I wish I could watch it all over again not knowing what is going to happen and all the tension and nail biting and good stuff. This is why I can happily wait for the rest of this season to arrive because I don't want it to end!
