But then on Monday morning I got kinda cranky and was a little bit mean to//impatient with// Dan when were were packing up. (Sorry Sarah, Mike, Terri and Charlie ) But that only lasted for a few minutes. I don't like to be cranky. I try really hard to be laid back.
Sure you've been to Nashville this year, but have you been to Providence?
Never been to RI. The farthest (furthest?) I've been in the north east is Albany, NY.
But it's on my radar....... ;D
Freefest?
Virgin Freefest? I went last year and met up with Katy Mae and Old Dirty Brooklyn, we had Brunch beforehand. So fun!
And I'm going this year. Thanks to a couple of awesome Inforoosters.
4. If you could only go to one festival (the same one every year) for the rest of your life, which would you choose?
That's like asking me to pick my favorite child. Defer to later....
In order to make a decision of such magnitude I must attend ALL festivals at least once. And that will take forever. And a larger amount of discretionary funds than I can currently access.
Defer. Like, forever. Or until Dan wins the lottery + some years.
Check back with me for the answer when you are 52 and I am 74.
From www.theanswerbank.co.uk - 'Manky' is the adjectival form from 'mank', a now-obsolete word of Scottish origin dating back to the 16th century. It meant to maim or mangle back then, which sort of fits with the current idea implied by 'manky' - that something is not quite right - dirty, gross, disgusting, nasty.
No other way to say it. Just...manky.
As in "After I wore my flip flops for the whole of Bonnaroo they were just manky." True story.
And WHY not RATM?? Actually I saw RATM, Radiohead AND NIN headline at Lolly 2008 and that will probably be the ONLY time I do Lolly! I don't see them pulling that out of their arse again!
idk, I just really never got into them.
So who would be your perfect headliners for Bonnaroo?
There are a number of great acts that I would be happy to see headline. Does it need to be a new headliner or can it be a repeat?
It was a day fest in Memphis many, many years ago when I was in high school. The Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top headlined.
Bonnaroo 2006 was my first camping festival.
Best year of Bonnaroo?
Overall, I would have to say 2008. The weather was nearly perfect, camp was great, I saw some stellar shows and Dan and I spent a week camping on the beach in the Outer Banks afterwards.
So when do you see doing VooDoo or Jazz Fest again?
The primary issue is fundage on both counts. NOLA is super expensive when you party on the Bunny level. I would honestly rather spend some quality time in Paris with my baby girl instead. And Voodoo hasn't had a good enough line up for me in recent years.
[However, Genia will be at JF this year. And of course Crazy Marsha never misses it.]
I need to get you and Dan down here for Hangout...Free place to stay! ;D
Hangout is bad timing wise, I'm in full blown roo panic near the end of May.
100% yes. The best place near the venue that has booze in the AM is Eggspectation. There's something for everyone, the food is decent and it's super convenient.
And what are you bringing with you for "brunch" in Rhode Island?
??? Mimosas, if I was gonna be there.
What was the last card game you played?
Does solitaire on my iPhone count? That would be today.
1. Can I come to the Freefest Brunch (if I can afford it)? 2. Why does everyone want MMJ to close 'Roo on Sunday? While I would stay fer their set, I haven't ever really seen a full Sunday headliner set (probably never more than 15-20 minutes if that anyway). 3. Who are you most lookin' forward to seein' at Freefest? 4. Who do you absolutely not want to headline Bonnaroo next year? 5. How much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood? 6. How many posts must one have to reach the status level of "Stanky McNasty?" 7. Last movie you saw in the theater? 8. Last physical album you purchased? 9. First concert?
1. Can I come to the Freefest Brunch (if I can afford it)?
If you come I'll buy you breakfast! (say yes, say yes) And an adult beverage.
2. Why does everyone want MMJ to close 'Roo on Sunday? While I would stay fer their set, I haven't ever really seen a full Sunday headliner set (probably never more than 15-20 minutes if that anyway).
I didn't know everyone wanted them? I like them and they would fit the jammy slot, I guess.
I really enjoyed WSP this year. The most fun I've had at a Sunday headliner. I've skipped a few and left most of them early myself. This year was magical.
3. Who are you most lookin' forward to seein' at Freefest?
The Black Keys, because I skipped them to get a good spot for Buffalo Springfield. Which turned out to be a good choice since so many people said the sound was shit towards the back.
4. Who do you absolutely not want to headline Bonnaroo next year?
Ooooh. So many! But I don't mind skipping headliners. I do think Em brought a very un-Bonnaroo crowd though. So anyone with crappy fans? And Insane Clown Posse.
5. How much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
New York state wildlife expert Richard Thomas, who found that a woodchuck could (and does) chuck around 35 cubic feet of dirt in the course of digging a burrow. Thomas reasoned that if a woodchuck could chuck wood, he would chuck an amount equivalent to the weight of the dirt, or 700 pounds.
6. How many posts must one have to reach the status level of "Stanky McNasty?"
Pretty sure it's 2500. I was very sad when I got Stanky. I was a Showerless Shakedown Vendor for quite a while and think it sounds much better. Don't know what comes after, but I imagine it will be a while before I get there.
7. Last movie you saw in the theater?
I don't enjoy going to the movies much. People are so inconsiderate. When I visited my Mom in March we went to see True Grit, I think?
8. Last physical album you purchased?
Like, vinyl? Wowsers. I haven't had a turntable in years. My Dan has one, but we don't have it set up. I do still have a few select albums though. Does a gift count? I bought Fleet Foxes for my daughter's friend last December. I think the last one I bought for myself was Stevie Ray Vaughn's The Sky is Crying in 1991.
9. First concert?
The Jackson 5 when I was 11. Michael was 11 as well.
Did you ever visit Larry McMurtry's bookstore in DC, Booked Up?
No, but I've been to the one in Archer City. I lived in Dallas for many years.
I actually didn't know there was one here so I looked it up. It's in Georgetown. I never go to Georgetown. But I do eventually want to see the Exorcist stairs so I'll be going some day.
Have you ever heard his son James McMurtry's George W. Bush era protest songs such as "Cheney's Toy" and "We Can't Make It Here" ?
I've heard the second one, not sure about the first. I've seen him on Austin City Limits.
Seeing as how you are so anti war don't you just love Neil Young's "Living With War" ? I consider it his last great work.
I do love it, and should really listen more often. Hopefully it's not his last great work, just his most recent.
I remember watching the lottery for the Vietnam draft when I was really young. My brother is 11 years older than I am and my parents were happy for every date that wasn't his birthday, but had a list of other birthdays to worry about. I think he ended up in the 200s and he was in college, so he never had to go. He had friends that did.
I grew up influenced by war, assassinations and a lot of other ugliness that I found to be very disturbing. Memphis pretty much imploded when Dr. King was murdered. Back then they showed everything on TV; bloody people, riots, gruesome dead bodies, Monks on fire, kids burned by napalm, caskets of dead soldiers, etc. Things were very real, unlike today. I'm sorry NPR, but do you really think it's necessary to warn people that you're going to discuss circumcision? Really?
So I'm a pacifist, try super hard to be laid back and avoid conflict and mean people when at all possible. I appreciated music that I could identify with then and do now as well. Neil is one of my heroes.
How about if the woodchuck is on some really good uppers?
Who is your favorite comedian? In which extracurricular activities were you involved during high school? What is the first album you bought? How many states have you visited? Do you speak any foreign languages? Are you currently reading a book? Who is your favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle? (I ask this question of every BMOTM, but have never felt so awkward doing so...) Have you met anyone famous? What is your favorite curse word?
So I'm a pacifist, try super hard to be laid back and avoid conflict and mean people when at all possible.
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but doesn't pacifism oppose violence itself? And that it is possible to have confrontation without violence? Would you agree that friction can bring about progress at a faster rate than the rate at which things would otherwise occur? Did you celebrate the death of Osama bin Laden? What if I expressed my concern to you that one of the problems of the American left is that they aren't confrontational enough?
Finally, to steal a question from Tyler Durden: if you could fight any historical figure, who would you fight?
Heya Bunny! 1) Favorite thing to do in our neck of the woods?
I don't hang out in VA much, I really only go back and forth to work (or I should say "went"). I do like the Happy Hour at Big Bowl in Reston Town Center, though. They make really good cocktails using house made ginger ale. Tuesdays and Wednesdays they are $5.00
I love Wolf Trap because you can bring your own food and drinks, even glass. They don't have that many shows I'll spend the money on though. I've been twice this summer so far, and don't have tickets to anything else.
2) What mind has provided the most inpsiration for you?
I guess my Mom.
3) Your single greatest musical moment?
Super hard, because every show I go to that's really good supercedes the last one. I was in the band in junior high though, and we played for the whole school a couple of times. That was pretty awesome.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Sadly, I never really developed a passion for anything in particular. I still don't know what I want to be. Which sucks.
Your biggest pet peeve?
Drivers who block the box really annoy me. Which I guess is a symptom of selfishness. So yeah, really selfish people.
What cheers you up when you're having a bad day?
I put bad days into two categories. One would be dealing with circumstances beyond my control, and the other would be when I'm in a funk.
When shit beyond my control happens I work to overcome/go around the obstacle, so working it out really feels good. I'm rarely in what would be considered a "bad mood". When I get in a funk (which is pretty often these days) I have to work really, really hard not to isolate myself. So calling a friend or getting together with someone usually lifts my spirits.
How about if the woodchuck is on some really good uppers?
In which extracurricular activities were you involved during high school?
Zero. Sad, I know. I was pretty disengaged for a variety of reasons.
What is the first album you bought?
I think it was Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy, which is ironic because I don't like The Who very much.
How many states have you visited?
24: 25, I forgot MI AR, CA, CA, DE, FL, KS, KY, LA, MD, MO, MS, NC, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WV
Do you speak any foreign languages?
No, I've taken French and Spanish but can't carry on a conversation in either.
Are you currently reading a book?
I just started Maskerade by Terry Pratchett.
Who is your favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle? (I ask this question of every BMOTM, but have never felt so awkward doing so...)
Haha. Don't forget that I have a kid in your age group. Donatello.
Have you met anyone famous?
Actually met, as in introduced to, none. I did shake hands with BB King at a show in 1983 and request a song.
What is your favorite curse word?
quack
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but doesn't pacifism oppose violence itself?
I think so, I'm against violence unless it's in self-defense.
And that it is possible to have confrontation without violence?
Confrontation isn't necessarily violent, but can devolve in to that pretty quickly. Disagreeing with someone isn't a reason to punch them, no matter how much they insult your Mother.
Would you agree that friction can bring about progress at a faster rate than the rate at which things would otherwise occur?
Absolutely. Often friction is solved by discussion, which can lead to progress.
Did you celebrate the death of Osama bin Laden?
Not exactly. I was happy that he would no longer incite people to harm others.
What if I expressed my concern to you that one of the problems of the American left is that they aren't confrontational enough?
You have every reason to be concerned. Democrats seem more willing to compromise, which gives the impression that they don't stand up for their principles. I'm sure it's more complicated than that, but yeah, we're not called spineless for nothin'.
Finally, to steal a question from Tyler Durden: if you could fight any historical figure, who would you fight?
