we found some really old vinyl, talking 40's and 50's at the in-laws house. I'm going to clean them up and see if they still play. they are heavy as shiz.
Sounds like 78 rpms. Can your turntable play those? I feel like I read you can mess up your stylus if it's not designed to play a 78.
oh, I probably shouldn't try it, because I'm not sure.
Horn beat me to it. You can tell if they are a 78. It will be a couple of inches smaller than a 33. There are some record players out there that can play them. Mine is not one of them.

Do I remember right that you have a Victoria Tunewriter? Someone here does, just can't recall who. Anyway, if that's what you have, you're fine. I have a Tunewriter III and it can definitely play 78s. Only reason I got the extra player is because you can play 45s and 78s, plays cassettes and CDs, and it can convert record to mp3 format. Either way, check by the stylus to see if there's a toggle switch between 33/45/78 - if it does you're probably good.
Edit - nevermind. I have caught up on the other messages.

If things go my way I'll finally be gettin' a record player in the next two weeks! Then I can finally listen to my collection and expand my growin' obsession. On a bummer note, I managed to secure a copy of Failure's "Magnified" RSD release, but a statement was just released sayin' the label and/or manufacturer left off a track from the album.
Just got a promotional copy of Buckingham Nicks' only record. The album artwork is double printed on the inside so it was a pretty quirky find - and an exciting one for a huge fan.
My little brother was the only one brave enough to buy me vinyl for Christmas. He got me the new Third Man Sun Studio 45s.
In other news, my aunt got a package from Ten Club today that included a 45 of PJ with Jay Z at Made In America doing "99 Problems". I've been waiting for some sort of release of this collaboration. She won't sell me the record but I'm gonna borrow it so I can at least rip it to an mp3
I just found this thread, and I'm looking to trade off some of my records. If you see anything you like, make me an offer! Not really looking to sell, but will consider any offers. (Also looking for old-school Garbage Pail Kids!)
