Is it unopened? It looks like it's still new. I love Ryan Adams and just got the NY show box set but am looking into this one.
It is unopened... it, the box behind it, and my recent RSD purchases are probably my only unopened vinyl. I am saving Live After Dark for a specific anniversary coming up in a couple of years to honor the memory of someone (maybe doing one album per day from the set).
Aside from it, I usually always open my vinyl and use it - it seems sad when it stays in its package and not get any use. I do use the sleeves to protect the normal albums after I open them, though. I will let you know afterwards how it is - I love the track listings.
i always eventually open my sealed vinyl, but I did have an original pressing of Peter Gabriel's first record sealed for years. one day it was just a beautiful clean spring day and I ripped it open and threw it on for no particular reason. it was awesome.
ha! there are worse ideas. companies like vinyl me please are having some success with vinyl club mail order type deals.
way back in the day when columbia house was doing vinyl in the pre-cd days, they had special pressings done, record club versions, you can still see them referred to as that in the aftermarket. some felt these pressings were lesser quality than standard pressings, which is how they were able to sell them more cheaply.
probably not enough of a vinyl production infrastructure around today to get special pressings for a record club.
i never was a member of CH during their heyday, but their last gasp was a website called something like youmusic.com, can't remember the name exactly. anyway if you agreed to buy one cd a month they'd sell you any cd they had for $6, shipping included. it was a pretty good deal, and i stocked up on a lot of CDs this way, as it was actually cheaper than amazon. This would be about ten years ago i think. eventually the price went up a bit and then they filed bankruptcy.
i recently heard a story on This American Life about Columbia House, apparently it was a pretty cool place to work in the 90s, the former employees are still pretty passionate about their time there. Deciding what CDs to make the selection of the month, searching for CDs to feature, writing copy about CDs, etc. Sounded like a cool place to be if you loved popular music.
well i just wrote more about columbia house than i thought i would.

I would have a fear of purchasing vinyl from them if they sold lesser quality pressing... that is the main goal of vinyl. To get a great quality pressing. Maybe they will put out a good quality vinyl selection for their future monthly club, though!
I do a monthly club with my local vinyl store (End of All Music in Oxford, MS).

So I got the AT-LP60 for Christmas, and setup today.
This is my first go at anything related to vinyl/turntables, so excuse the noob question. Do I need to hook it to speakers to get sound? I have tried multiple records, and everything seems to be working...but there is barely any sound coming out of it (I can hear it and make out what song is playing...but I have to be right beside the turntable.) If I have to have speakers, what do you recommend?

Yup, speakers are needed. The sound that you hear isn't coming from an internal speaker or anything; it's literally the sound of the needle being dragged over the record. It is this sound that the speakers amplify. I think that's the coolest thing about vinyl - it's easy to understand how it works (when compared to a CD or mp3) because you can hear it working right in front of you without any amplification. It's music in a purely physical form. Way cool.

To hear mine, I had to purchase a speaker (or set of speakers) and an amp. Amazon has some good deals on these if you are on a budget. Some speakers will work connecting directly to it (since it has a built-in amp) but some require an additional amp (such as the bookshelf speakers like I use).

I"m not sure how traditionalists would feel about it, but I bought a pre-amp and a Sonos Play 5 and run my turntable through that. I can't remember the pre-amp but I can post it when I get back to my home in a couple of days.

Nice turntable! And that model has a built in preamp already, score!
Christmas vinyl haul covered a couple 2015 records I hadn't picked up yet:
My Morning Jacket - The Waterfall Courtney Barnett - Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit Dawes - All Your Favorite Bands Ryan Adams - 1989 Anderson East - Delilah Tame Impala - Lonerism Flying Lotus -You're Dead
Noob here, needing a recommendation for a turntable that is relatively priced but not lacking in quality. Have a few vinyls (Abba, EW&F, etc.) that my grandmother used to listen to and i thought it was about time i started my own collection.
Bonnaroo '15/'16/'17/'18/'19 - ACL '13/'14/'15/'17/'18 - Fun Fun Fun '14 - SXSW '13/'14/'15 - FPSF '16
2019 Shows: 4/30 - Vampire Weekend 6/28 - Father John Misty & Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit 9/6 - Cardi B w/ Teyana Taylor 9/28 - Vulfpeck w/ The Fearless Flyers

I have a numark TT table that I got for just over $200 a couple years back. Has a USB to transfer tracks on record to a computer (though I never use that feature). Only down fall is that it doesn't have a top/cover, but overall I've had a good experience. Also, I had to order a better needle because the one provided was worn easily, but no biggie.

FINALLY picked up I Love You, Honeybear and Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit for Christmas.
I have a nice Waterloo records gift card as well, and am unsure what to prioritize. Any advice on which I NEED to get? Here's my list:
Run The Jewels 2 Alabama Shakes - Sound & Color My Morning Jacket - The Waterfall Vince Staples - Summertime '06 Dawes - All Your Favorite Bands Kendrick - TPAB
Bonnaroo '15/'16/'17/'18/'19 - ACL '13/'14/'15/'17/'18 - Fun Fun Fun '14 - SXSW '13/'14/'15 - FPSF '16

Thanks! I just checked his website and they have the colored, 2-disc set available. Likely gonna invest in it. Have you seen Vince live? If you haven't, and he's on the farm, DO NOT MISS it! He managed to bring a hopeless crowd at ACL to life, produced two huge mosh pits at the second smallest stage at the fest. It was something else.

TPAB for sure. Then, Vince Staples. Then maybe Sound & Color. Mine is so pretty, I got the clear version.
2017: 2/24 Twenty One Pilots 4/1 Radiohead 6/7 Glass Animals 9/10 Modest Mouse 9/21 Arcade Fire 9/29 Kings of Leon 10/3 Foster the People 10/17 The xx 10/22 LCD Soundsystem 11/8 Bon Iver
The latter. The only one I can personally vouch for the fidelity of is RTJ2, though I'd expect the Kendrick and Alabama Shakes albums to be of good quality as well.

I haven't but I hope to make it happen in 2016. I would have completely missed that album if it wasn't for this board's AotM thread, too.

Get the AT LP 60 or AT LP120, whichever is in your price range. If you can spring for the 120, all the major components are upgradeable so it can last a good long time.

I have the 60 and I have been happy with it as a starter turntable. If I was starting over again, though, I would spend the extra money for the 120. Some 180g records will skip on the 60, and since you are unable to adjust the tracking pressure, there is not much you can do about it. AT sent me a weight to put on the arm, but it doesn't help much.
Kendrick - TPAB is one of the best presses of the year, imo. They did a really nice job with it. For Sale? (Interlude) is my fave, for the sound. Waaaaay better than the digital version, unless you are fortunate enough to own a DAC
For those asking about the AT-60 or lp-120, go with the 120. 1 major issue though - the built in preamp lowers the expansive sound, or what you would hear coming out of the older tables w/o built in amps. A lot of folks have actually removed the preamp, cause it isn't really hard to do. It makes all the difference. (I did it) Vids are on youtube for the removal procedures. No soldering necessary, but always a plus if you are capable. It is a very easy table to modify. The company/manufacturer actually made it that way for this reason. (Their words) They want people to be able to do what they want with it.

Is there an advantage to removing it vs just turning it off for the 120?
