Just got my first batch of albums from amazon the other day. I went with 2 of my top albums of all time. Queen's A Night At The Opera and The Zombies Odessey and Oracle. I plan on getting some newer stuff with my next purchase.
My uncle passed last year, and when clearing out his house over the weekend I discovered his record collection. There were a couple hundred vinyls. I felt weird taking them, but I'm very happy to be able to ensure they will still get played.
Some great stuff too, mostly from the 60's-80's.
Lots of Beatles (including White Album), The Who, The Doors, Springsteen, Elton John, Willie Nelson, David Allen Coe, Charlie Daniels, Supertramp, Hendrix, Billy Joel, Eagles, Yes, The Animals, Allman Bros & Gregg Allman, Neil Young, Crosby Stills Nash, Costello, Heart, Doobie Bros, Chicago, and so many more.
I still have to go through them all to know what is there.

So we used to drive to Savannah to visit some friends who went to school in Savannah at SCAD. This was before we were 21, so when we got tired of drinking Jim Beam at the apartment, we would head to this bar everyone just called Trash Bar. It didn't have a name, it was just this shitty cinderblock looking building. The bartender was always this old Asian woman, and the only other customer the 3-4 times we went was this same middle aged lady. Trash Bar would take our crappy fake ids, so we were able to enjoy the full selection of beverages on tap, which was both kinds: Busch Heavy and Busch Light.
There was a pool table and a sit down pac man video game. The jukebox was full of mostly weird Asian music, but there were two songs we recognized: "Put Me In Coach" by John Fogerty, and more importantly, "You Never Even Called Me By My Name" by David Allen Coe. So we played those two songs over and over and drank pitchers of Busch and shot pool and played Pacman.
Those were some ridiculously happy college memories.

What I like about making a short record on 2 discs is the deeper bass. It really has a better sound. I was told it has something to do with the groove being wider so the needle doesn't bounce as much, therefore making harder bass possible without degrading the rest of the sound.

The wider grooves do make a difference. Most albums I've spun with a running time around 45 minutes that were split into 3 to 4 sides sound considerably better. I've heard also that the inner grooves on the record lose quality and that has made a difference in the past on tracks chosen to be featured earliest on each side by some artists.

Also, seems like most electronic music vinyl releases are double albums for that very reason. I can tell a large difference in bass on the single album SBTRKT compared to something like Luxury Problems by Andy Stott split into 4 sides. The Stott album title seems fitting for this discussion.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

we found some really old vinyl, talking 40's and 50's at the in-laws house. I'm going to clean them up and see if they still play. they are heavy as shit.

Sounds like 78 rpms. Can your turntable play those? I feel like I read you can mess up your stylus if it's not designed to play a 78.
