So what happens with the Third Man vault thing? I pay the $60, receive my record then go back and cancel my membership? Is that all I have to do to get the record?

Yea, just cancel before the next billing round, they don't warn before the charge.

I bought it with a credit card that expires at the end of November so no worries on recurring fees haha.
I just inherited a lot of vinyl from a local hip-hop/electronic producer, and there was some crazy good stuff in the crates he gave me. Lot's of hip-hop, electronic, soul, funk, breaks, indie, etc.
If anyone is interested in buying/trading, I have them listed on Discogs right now (I sold about 50 LP's within 24 hours of listing them).
"All in all, the creative act is not performed by the artist alone.. the spectator brings the work in contact with the external world by deciphering and interpreting its inner qualifications and thus adds his contribution to the creative act." -- Marcel Duchamp
Found an original pressing of Dark Side of The Moon earlier this week... figured it was one that I just had to have.
Recently placed an order for Pantha Du Prince's "Black Noise" on Discogs, but the guy emailed me days later saying he had sold it already ... guess I should look for another, that's an album cover that I'd seriously consider framing.
I impulse bought a copy of Mellow Gold a few days ago. It was rated really well and the seller was really responsive and accommodating so I have hope that it looks great! I've wanted that one for a while so I'm super excited about it.

Finally got my turntable from my uncle set up. It's a Technics SL-3300. It needed a new stylus, but I replaced the whole cartridge with a Shure M97xe.
Been spending all day cleaning and spinning records. Just cleaned up an early US pressing of "Wish You Were Here" that came with the turntable, it's going on next

Awesome! How did you align the cart?
Printed out the Technics protractor. I don't think I got it perfect, but pretty damn close. Took me a minute to get to print in the right scale, but got it figured out.
I know Technics, or Panasonic now, makes an overhang adjustment tool. Only $10 should be alot easier, eliminating the need for the protractors. Going to get it to double check.

Awesome. I like to use a combination of the overhang gauge and protractor, just to double check myself.
Love my technics, hope yours brings you a lot of joy.
Protip: Don't freak out when you can't find the Dead Weather 7", it's sealed inside the double LP
Thats funny you say that.. I got it this morning and was so bumped that the dead weather LP wasn't in there...upon further investigation this afternoon...found it! It's so good too. Very much looking forward to the new Dead Weather album...and hopefully a slot on the farm next year!!
The Meow The Jewels Package*: $40,000 Run The Jewels will re-record RTJ2 using nothing but cat sounds for music. You are free to profit from this album in any way you see fit up to 100k in net global profit or 3 years (whichever comes first).
So, it looks like Meow the Jewels is actually happening!
I've never ordered a record via the interwebz before, until now.
I ordered the special pink breast cancer awareness version of Against Me!'s Transgender Dysphoria Blues, becuse I assume I won't find it up here.
My question, how are records usually shipped? I am worried about it being bended and broken. I realize people ship records all the time, and I should not be worried, but can someone reassure me?
Also, I am worried about the Jack White Vault shipment in the winter, sitting on my porch while I am at work. Should I be worried about the cold?

Shipping packaging differs from seller to seller, of course, but generally shipment of vinyl has gotten a lot better over the past 3-4 years as its popularity has increased. I've bought crap loads of vinyl online, and I think maybe one time I had a bent corner, other than that no issues directly applicable to packaging.
I have gotten vinyl that is warped so much as to be unplayable (cartridge literally leaps off the record), but I think that is more of a manufacturing issue rather than a shipping issue, though one could argue sitting in the heat too long could have warped the record.
Which brings us to your weather question: you definitely don't have to be concerned with the cold, your vinyl will be fine. Its the heat you have to worry about.

You are fine dude. If it is coming from a record label you are all set. Dipshit private sellers on discogs might send a poorly packaged record but you just check their reviews to make sure they know what they are doing. And if you ever want to order from Amazon then you are in good hands. I'm convinced they could ship a Faberge egg and it would arrive in perfect condition.
The only time I have ever had any sort of issue with a shipped record the box looked like a million trucks ran over it then a dog attacked it. The record inside was only slightly warped and the sleeve was bent. I contacted the record label and they sent out another record within the hour.
