Some words of wisdom that my dad told me while he was in the hospital going through kemo for Leukemia in 2008 when I didn't really have the money to go..."In ten years, you won't remember or miss the money you spent going to Bonnaroo, but the memories that you acquire in going will last a lifetime."
I didn't go to my first Roo until after I had finished cancer treatment, that was in 2008 and I've been each year since. If you really want to go figure out a way. Once you're there you can live on PB&J's if you really need to but find me and I'll buy you a beer.
I'm with laggy, im 90% sure I'm going to lollapalooza instead. I just feel as if that line up is a little bit better. Only thing I am afraid of is the lack of community. Bonnaroo has such a sense of "we are all in this together" that it makes for great shows and even better people. I hope I'm making the right decision by going to lolla :/

I know I'll be sacrificing that at Lolla, it won't be the same.
My justification is that, for my personal taste, the Lollapalooza line-up is ALOT better. Deftones and A Perfect Circle are among my favorite bands. And I've never had a chance to see APC, and this could be my only chance. Then add in DFA 1979 and the Kills (who never tour here), along with Muse and some of my favorites from the Bonnaroo lineup like Atmosphere, Ratatat, Sleigh Bells, etc... for me personally it's just too good to pass up. And then don't even get me started on how much better the electronic acts are...
Don't get me wrong, bonnaroo has a great line-up, but it feels more like a list of bands I'd really like to see, while Lolla is a list of my favorite bands.
What I'm sacrificing is 5 extra hours each night of epic latenight action, shorter set times, and the amazing sense of community and wonder that Bonnaroo holds. That's a serious sacrifice and I will miss it. But overall I don't think I'll regret my decision

I am going for the first time this year but I'm so stressed about the money. I'm a college student. I don't have two dimes to rub together so this little tid bit made me smile. It's absolutely true and I'm feeling a little better about the whole thing now.
dont worry about money......I always stress it but it comes together in the end and I always have more the enough so I have a feeling you will be fine........HAVE FUN!!!! BE SAFE!!!!LOVE LIFE!!!!!!

First year I went I was a senior in college. I was broke as hell. But I made it work. Set me back a little, but not much. And I've never, ever, regretted it. In fact, it was possibly one of the best decisions I've ever made.

I haven't been since '07. Every year, I feel a little twinge of sadness about not going, but this year I am more upset about missing it than I have been in the past.

I was going. But I've been throwing up and crapping liquid for the past few days (stomach virus). I doubt it's going to magically get better for me to go in Friday either.

Interesting that those of us who are missing this year seem to be some of vets. This is my second year in a row missing and it still hurts just as bad....probably worse because my roomate about about 15 other friends left yesterday (all first timers so their excitement was contagious). The lineup's get worse and the scheduling was atrocious but it's still the most fun time of the year. Bonnaroo is the premier American music festival and as a music lover it hurts to have to sit out yet again.
Missing Roo big time this year. Money was just too tight; supporting myself and my gf as she looks for a job. It's tough, I have a LOT of friends there and I've gotten about 20 texts in the last 5 hours and it's going to get worse before it gets better.
I don't even love the lineup this year (I liked 09 and 10 more -- from the headliners to the last line) and the schedule makes me puke (the late night just doesn't compare to the last two years). It's just the sense of community and the people. And I hate wooks, so you know that means something.
I wish NPR was broadcasting sets this year, big time. THAT sucks. Still, so long as the Vevo stream stays up for the next few days, I'll be happy with that... at least for now.
The first time I missed Bonnaroo I seriously regretted it. The second time (last year) I regretted it, but less because I was able to play along via NPR and Youtube. This year, I find my regrets aren't all that prominent. Perhaps its being underwhelmed by the lineup (well, moreso the schedule than the actual lineup), but I am not finding myself as bummed that I'm not sweltering in 98 degree heat with thousands of people this weekend.
It also hurts to read that it was 80 degrees with no humidity around 6 PM today in Manchester. SOOOO much better than last year and the horrid, horrid heat. It's only supposed to be around 83 at 10 AM tomorrow, which was pretty much the temperature at 7:30 AM last year.
ugh. today was definitely the first day i felt sad about not being there. this is my first time missing in three years.
last year was really hard with the heat and matt and everything, so in a way it lost a little bit of luster for me. i was outside all last weekend at free press summer fest in houston and it was hot as balls, so that helped make me less sad i would be camping out. luckily i have some fun plans this weekend to take my mind off it.
i know everyone is going to have such a great time.

Thanks, Kate Upton's boobs.
I think I could probably deal with anything as long as Kate Upton's boobs were there to comfort me. Kate Upton's boobs could murder my whole family and I'd get over it.
Agreed that I think I liked last year's lineup better than this year's. A few bands I really want to see this year (MMJ, Kylesa/theSword/Opeth, J.Cole, Childish Gambino, Weezy, Old Crow, Big Boi, Ratatat, etc.), but the scheduling doesn't really help matters. Regardless, I'll be there next year. I think that the completely unhyped 2012 fest (no "10th Anniversary" B.S.) is going to surprise with its lineup.
I think you're right on for 2012. This Bonnaroo X lineup just never hit me like the last two and I have to imagine they'll bring some cool stuff out for next year. Last year's KILLER Saturday night conflictaroo of Hall/Chromeo, LCD, Bassnectar and the Keys. There's nothing CLOSE to that this year.
On the subject of Kate Upton's boobs though, I agree with your thesis on family-killing.

Couldn't make it this year. Got sick earlier in the week, still waiting for test results but looks like mono. Huge bummer. Sad I'll miss buffalo springfield and tonight's epic 1-2 punch on what.
Doesn't everybody deserve to have the good life? -Dave Matthews Diaraby Magni. -Vieux Farka Toure Nature is the infrastructure of our society. -Roo sign The Road goes on forever and the Party never ends. -Robert Earl Keen That was ridiculous! -Mayer Hawthorne Hopefully this will cool things off. -Dr. Dog, leading into "The Breeze" We're in the middle of our one day tour here. -Jack Black

After having to bear through the past weekend without going, and reading all your stories I'm seriously beginning to regret my decision. Lollapalooza better pay off... shite...
i'm lucky enough to be able to do roo and lolla this year.
roopression definitely hit my partner in crime since she couldnt go, we're already looking forward to roo together next year and i'm trying to get her to go to lolla with me in august
in re to all the shitty line up comments or the thing about the crowd changing- i guess you can focus on those things if you want but i think the experience is what you make of it. find great people and have an amazing roo, fall in love with a stranger and hang out until the sun rises with neighbors you feel like youve known forever even though its only saturday morning
a 'shitty' roo is better than no roo. i'm sorry y'all couldnt go, i look forward to seeing you on the farm next year =D

Anyone else not going this year?
It's the busiest time of year at work for me, so it's pretty d.ck for me to take off. Plus it uses all my vacation days in one fell swoop
I decided I'd only go if I was blown away by the lineup, and I wasn't
With the second round additions and comedy additions I've been having second thoughts lately, but I've already used a bunch of my vacation days for other things. No turning back now. The first weekend of june is going to hurt alot again
