09 is my only year so far. so here are my favorites from last year.
1.Beastie Boys 2.Wilco 3.Ben Harper and Relentless7 4.Alejandro Escovedo 5.Bruce 6.moe. 7.MGMt 8.Kaki King (acoustic Sonic Stage) 9.Patterson Hood 10.Galactic w/ Trombone Shorty and I don't think Coachellas better.Even if I did consider the headliners better, the fact they won't let you take a beer outside of a fenced in vending area seals it.Plus,at midnight sirens go off and they try to herd you back into the camping area.
1. David Byrne (09) 2. Tool (07) 3. Ornette Coleman (07) 4. Sigur Ros (08) 5. Ralph Stanley and The Clinch Mountain Boys (07) 6. Femi Kuti and The Positive Force (09) 7. King Sunny Ade (09) 8. The Mars Volta (09) 9. The Black Keys (07) 10. Willie Nelson (08)
2010: 3/12: The Bad Plus/Happy Apple/Buffalo Collision/The Bad Apple 6/10-13: Bonnaroo 6/19: Rock the Garden 7/30-31: Mid West Music Fest 8/21: Los Hombres Calientes 8/31: Marijuana Death Squads 9/11: The Book of Right On w/ City on the Make 9/23: Of Montreal w/ Janelle Monae 10/4: Broken Social Scene 11/23: Grinderman
I've only been to half of the Roos (06 - 09), so I'm not really at liberty to say, but this is what I'd say given what I've seen.
1. Nine Inch Nails - Roo 09 2. Radiohead - Roo 06 3. Tortoise - Roo 07 (this used to be my number 1, but upon further evaluation and the progression of time, I'd knocked this one down in favor of NIN and Radiohead) 4. Ornette Coleman - Roo 07 (to those that were there, no explanation is necessary) 5. Alison Krauss and Robert Plant - Roo 08 6. The Mars Volta - Roo 09 7. Levon Helm and The Ramble On The Road - Roo 08 8. Metallica - Roo 08 9. Public Enemy - Roo 09 10. Beck - Roo 06
And honorable mentions being that they either almost made the cut, I only saw part of the set, or I only got to actually HEAR the set as indicated:
Dungen - Roo 06 (only caught the last 30 minutes, but the show made me a big fan) Gov't Mule - Roo 07 (only caught the last 30 once again, biggest regret I've got is seeing Flips over this) My Morning Jacket - Roo 09 (listened to it from the camp site, as I wasted a bunch of time and energy over the disappointing Superjam) Erykah Badu - Roo 09 Tool - Roo 07 Pearl Jam - Roo 08 Tom Petty - Roo 06 DJ Shadow - Roo 07 Sigur Ros - Roo 08

#1 has to be Kanye in 08 right? I mean, making us wait two hours and closing down the rest of the fest besides Ghostland and then playing half assed until the sun rose which was an hour has got to be one of the best of all times! All kidding aside
#1 Pearl Jam #2 King Sunny Ade 09 #3 My Morning Jacket 08 #4 Phish (09 Sunday) #5 Amadou & Mariam 09 #6 The Mars Volta 09 #7 Zappa Plays Zappa 08 #8 The Boss 09 #9 moe. 09 #10 Phil Lesh & Friends 08

been in 05, 07 and 09. missed a lot of good sets like volta and galactic in 05 (both latenights), the f-lips, white stripes and mule in 07 and costello, decemberists and phoenix in 09.
1 The Boss 2 Phish (Sun) 3 Phish (Fri) 4 Byrne 09 5 Trey latenight 05 doing the Abbey Road medley 6 DMB 7 Wilco 09 8 Bon Iver 9 Band of Horses 10 Passion Pit 09
#1 my morning jacket 08 #2 white stripes #3 superjam: questlove, john paul jones, ben harper, 07 #4 pearl jam #5 tool #6 raconteurs #7 beastie boys (in the pit, in jumpsuits a la intergalactic) #8 delta spirit #9 mgmt 09 #10 vampire weekend
i would put gov't mule 07 on this list but i can't remember if i was actually there or not.
I grew up worshipping Rock and Roll like a religion. I know its shortcomings and strengths but have loved it unconditionally all the same since I was eight-years old. I ran away and joined the circus and honestly, I'm still as obsessed as I was as a boy. I'm not a kid anymore but I still remember how it felt and it doesn't really feel all that different to me now.
08 or 09? I saw the 08 set and it was surprisingly very good... have heard that 09 wasn't quite as good for one reason or another.
08...didn't see 09 but heard it wasn't that great. their 08 set blew my mind, first thing I found after wandering around dazed by the scale of it all...
Agreed, you'll know it's time to stick a fork in Bonnaroo if its "best of" list ever looks like that Coachella list.
I would be ecstatic if we got those artists to play Bonnaroo just looking at that first list. My Bloody Valentine, Portishead, Prince, Daft Punk, LCD Soundsystem would certainly be in my top ten if they played Bonnaroo.
Also the competition between fests is stupid, they're both great for different reasons.
been 06-09, but i admit i saw hardly any shows 06, a handful in 07, a decent amount in 08, and a very great mix in 09. bonnaroo is a learning experience and it takes years to perfect
1. radiohead 2006 (can this be topped? i mean, is it scientifically possible?) 2. nin 2009 3. pearl jam 2008 4. mars volta 2009 5. raconteurs 2008 6. white stripes 2007 7. grizzly bear 2009 8. rodrigo y gabriela 2009 (2007 was great also) 9. wilco 2009 (yet again, 2007 was superb) 10. tool 2007 (would've been better if i didn't have a migraine and didn't lose my group)
honorable mentions: katzenjammer 2009 (sexy) pretty lights 2009. crazy, drunken dance party sts9 2007 metallica 2008 beastie boys 2009
1. NIN 09 2. Flaming lips 07 3. Pearl Jam 08 4. Tool 07 5. Metallica 08 6. Mars Volta 09 7. Beastie Boys 09 8. The White Stripes 07 9. The Racontuers 08 10. Kanye 08 (i feel so jipped by this set but it was cool while it lasted plus the whole fiasco surrounding the whole thing i kinda like)
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

don't get me wrong, i'm roo all the way. it's best festival overall and only one i've ever been to. but coachella kills them when it comes to the headliners and rare acts that they are able to pull in. would love to make it out there some time, but i'm on the opposite coast. bonnaroo makes up for it with the set lengths, depth of the lineup, but most of all the late nights.

Funny how when the tables are turned, and someone mentions that Bonnaroo is starting to look too much like Coachella, somebody always steps in to tell that person to go to Rothbury if they don't like it. I suppose if I was that kind of jerkoff I would now tell you to go to Coachella.
But I'm not that kind of jerkoff, I'm a completely different kind of jerkoff, so I won't say that.
You really shouldn't be saying that RothandRoo sucks though. Besides that kind of thing being against the rules of this board, it's also not very nice.

Saying someone sucks is hardly something to get excited about, and I hardly mean, he, as a person, sucks. I was just turning the tables on him because he was commenting on something which I don't think he knows a lot about, or is blatant Bonnaroo homer-ism.
Also I think a majority of the board would love to see a bunch of the acts listed in that thread, so when you say something like "if Bonnaroo's best of looks like Coachella's stick a fork in it" it's going to get a negative reaction against you. Honestly, what do you think was wrong with those lists?
