I know I'm a Yankee fan so that kind of colors my opinion but wouldn't the NY media exposure be worth any difference if you're going for megastar level? Maybe he goes but I think it will be like when A-Rod went to Texas and the other star was I-Rod. This time it will be Cano and King Felix. Am I being obtuse?
By now, Cano and Jay-Z are clearly delusional. Honestly the 9/225 from Seattle was way too much and the best they were going to get. I doubt anyone will actually top that.

Remember that time Master P was Ricky Williams agent and his rookie contract was so incentive laden he wouldn't make a mili unless he topped 1,600 yards in a season?
A-Rod will be suspended for at least part of the season, barring some fluky court ruling. Jeter can't play SS full time anymore. I'd imagine Kelly Johnson signing with the Yankees to fill Cano's role, and he's maybe half the talent Cano has (though at a fraction of the price.) Though if Cano resigned, Johnson was still going to end up in the Bronx and filling up some other hole. The outfield has injury concerns. I imagine the 25 man roster still being one of the oldest in the majors (if not the oldest.) Mariano Rivera is gone. Beyond Sabathia and Nova (both coming off lackluster years), who the hell is in the rotation?
At least they're still better than the Mets.

You're kidding yourself if you think a lineup with Ellsbury - Jeter - Cano - Tex - A-Roid - McCann isn't at least a little scary.
Now, with Cano gone, you bump everyone else up one spot and they're an injury away from disaster. The Yankees are idiots for letting this happen.

That is under the assumption in which they would all be healthy at the same time. That will probably happen, but not too much in the season I think. It's more likely than average to assume one (or more) of them would be out of the lineup at any given time with a DL stint.
It also seems they plan on winning every game like 9-7. I still can't think of who they have in the rotation beyond Sabathia and Nova. Did they get Kuroda back yet?

Just because its the same contract doesn't mean things will play out as miserably for Granderson.
I think you're really underselling how awful this signing is.
Granderson is going to be 33 before spring training, he can't hit for average, he hit 40 dingers in a little joke ballpark and will be lucky to hit more than 20 playing half his games in Citifield. He's a decent fill-in behind other studs, but he's going to be relied upon to make up 1/3 of the Mets' power alley with Wright and Davis (if he's back). He'll strike out 200 times if he makes it that far into the season, bringing me to my next point: the fact that he's now on the wrong side of 30 and just missed the majority of a baseball season.
Jason Bay was coming off a good season when the Mets signed him and he was 2 years younger. Time to readjust that sight of yours, Jimbo, this is a trainwreck.
When you look at the market today, its not a terrible deal. The jury is still out on Granderson, but at least we didn't give him a 7,8,9, or 10 year deal. He's a small addition compared to where the Mets need to be, but you need to start somewhere. I'd rather Granderson on this deal than Ellsbury's or Cano's.
Then you're a dope. And you think they're going to sign ANOTHER top-money FA? How stoned are you right now, dude?
Spending less money wisely > Spending money to spend it.
Cano is one of the best pure hitters of his generation, the guy will be playing DH by then and still be able to hit a baseball. Will he be overpaid? Certainly, but that's how the pro sports landscape has shaped up: you pay a premium for a guy's best years.

Looks pretty good. Now with CC, Nova, Kuroda (and whatever pitcher they buy next) in the rotation I can see some form of contention.
The Yankees are olddddd. That lineup has two 39-year-olds (and if Ichiro starts it becomes three), two 37-year olds and only two guys under 30 (McCann/Gardner) who are both "just" 29 years old.
Depending on whether Wells, Ichiro, Soriano or Gardner is starting the average changes slightly, but none of them are spring chickens. The Yanks are playing with fire, but if it pays off they'll have a really good lineup, I just don't know how likely that is.

I agree that it can all fall apart quickly especially if they get hit by the injury bug again. And the way out of the geriatric scenario is not easy considering their lack of prospects in the minors. But they look much better at this point than I expected. I think they go with Nunez at 2nd base for now and hope he doesn't kick the ball around too much.

Phillies just removed Chris "Wheels" Wheeler and Gary "Sarge" Matthews from the broadcast booth. I for one couldnt be happier. Ever since Harry died it hasnt been the same. Wheels cant be the #1 guy. Sarge is good for a few innings but tends to just go off, but if I had my way we'd toss Tom McCarthy out as well. Hoping to get a good personality in the booth. Not you Mitch Williams!
Anyone else in a awesome/horrible commentator situation?
And no, I'm not saying good things about John Stirling.
Annoying as hell but not a homer (meaning yes the Bosux announcers are as biased as Faux News).
Does anyone actually like Waldman?
Yeah, the Sox announcers have a homer streak. If you think that's bad though, check out Jack Edwards doing Bruins games on NESN.
I find it hard to believe that there isn't supposed to be a little bit of a homer streak in announcers and commentators, not including national broadcasts. It's not like news reporters where they're supposed to pretend they're being neutral. They need to draw the fans interest into the game, and have to play the homer card a bit.
And thank science that Tim McCarver is retiring.
