I'm suprised Washington isn't giving him the chance at a shutout with only 110 pitches.
That's a ton of pitches for the first start of the year, you don't want to overwork him in the first start. It's the right call, he was laboring out there.

Yu Darvish is scary good.
Highlights Nos. 33-43, in which the 2012 Indians put on an admirable display in highlighting their collective lack of ability to hit curveballs. Namely: Yu Darvish curveballs. Nos. 89-94, in which Yu Darvish's cutter makes several Padres appear not markedly better at hitting a cutter than an actual padre. and No. 213, in which Vernon Wells is reduced to a shell of a man, seen mumbling musings to himself and appearing forlorn while returning to the bench, likely after re-evaluating his life during the arc of the curveball he just saw -- and not liking what he's learned.
I think the Cubs are moving int he right direction, at least. Samardzija is a beast.
And anytime Rosko gets too big for his britches, just remind him that Rizzo was a Sox farmhand before they traded him for a guy they immediately traded in a salary dump.
Everytime I see Mike f*cking Napoli at first base, I cringe thinking of this fact. Wish we at least would've kept Gonzalez last year.
Red Sox are gonna go 162-0, JBJ is gonna score 500 runs, baseball rules. Super pumped.
Red Sox beat the Mets 4-3 in the 2013 World Series. Book it.
My first season of baseball after having caught up to the technologies of the century and I'm so stoked about the MLB.com At Bat app. Home and away radio broadcasts. I'm going to be listening to all kinds of random games. For whatever reason, probably mostly nostalgia, listening to a baseball game on the radio is just about the most therapeutic thing ever for me.
Bob Murphy-vision.
When I was younger, the Mets' announcers were Tim McCarver and someone else who was equally awful. One day McCarver talked for 3 innings about the seams of a baseball (not kidding) so my dad finally had enough and relocated our family stereo from the nice living room (where no one ever went) to the regular living room (where we watched Mets games). We began Bob Murphy-Vision, which was watching Mets games on TV with the sound off while playing the WFAN broadcast on the home stereo. There was always a split-second difference in the timing, but it wasn't enough to make you care. Bob was inducted into the baseball HOF in 1994 and kept calling games until 2003, before retiring and passing away shortly thereafter. TV announcers are so lazy by comparison, they know they don't have to hold anyone's attention because they're able to see the game.
There have been many times where I've smoked a spliff, sat on my porch and listened to the radio call of a game while reading a book. That's about the most relaxed I ever get anymore, so thankfully the Mets replaced Murf with Howie Rose, another fantastic announcer, life-long Mets fan and forever endeared to me for his call of Johan's no-no, which I didn't hear until afterwards (since I was there.....BAM!).
The Mets haven't had a great product on the field, but at least they have a history of great radio announcers.
OH GOD TIM MCCARVER. There used to be a website dedicated to how awful he is, and you could send in "McCarver Gems," i.e. the dumbest things McCarver has said from the booth. I submitted a couple and got them posted. He announced the 2003 and 2004 ALCS with Joe Buck, and he was the f*cking worst. Me and my dad made fun of him and his rambling constantly.
"Kyle Rosko sent this in:Here are 2 McCarver Gems from the 6/18/2005 FOX game between the Cubs and Yankees… Gary Sheffield hits a 90 MPH high fastball (paraphrased): “Gary Sheffield just hammered the high fastball. Not many major leaguers can do that.”
Tim and Buck are drooling over Jeter (also paraphrased): “At the risk of sounding gaga over Jeter, he’s hip too. He’s hip. If I may use that young phrase, he’s one of the hippest players in the big leagues.”"

Napoli is good. He's a better hitter than A-Gon. Not to mention the fact that the Red Sox made out like bandits with the money they saved in that trade.
The hip thing worries me quite a bit though with Napoli. But as long as he can play through that without any lingering ill effects he'll produce.
Rizzo probably stings though. That kid is going to be a stud

Phillies are doomed. Hamels first game was easily just first game jitters. Im more worried about Docs performance. His first innings are always shakey but im legit concerned about him. After his injury it seems hes lost a step. Thank god Utley is back to form and Howard is still as scrub as ever.
If I wasn't a jinx I'd happily bet you that the Mets finish ahead of Philly this year, but I don't want to jinx my team.
I wish the Marlins could be relegated to the minors, maybe their owner would stop being a scumbag then.
I knew you wuold say that flanz and if i wasnt a diehard id say your right. Mets have been known to start and finish strong though lose the race in the middle somewhere. I can see the same happening this year just that the end of the season boom happens to boot Philly out of the playoff race. Reality of the situation...

There are two playoff teams coming from the NL East, and the Phils/Mets aren't either of them. A miracle could happen of course, but it's just unlikely that either team is able to have sustained success.
Halladay is going on the shelf at some point, his body seems to have had enough of the grind and is just not getting healthy. Utley has had four injury-riddled seasons and is now 34, so I don't think I'd rely on him lasting the season.
This isn't to excuse some of the laughable roster situations on the Mets, like their entire outfield making about $2m combined, so we can laugh at my team, too.
All I'm hoping to see out of this year is Niese, Harvey and eventually Wheeler pitching effectively, Travis d'Arnaud taking over the catcher position and Ike Davis getting back on track. Other than that...I'm really not expecting a damn thing.
And Quacker, I know...I just thought I would get at least a week or two before the meltdown.
