So Crystal Castles are releasing Crystal Castles, their follow up to their 2008 debut Crystal Castles.
Their shows at Bonnaroo and Ultra were a blast for me, and their first album was one of my favorites last year.
Crystal Castles (part 2) was leaked onto the internets this week. Just listened to it, and I'm sad to say my first reaction is dissapointment. I'm not digging it, hardly at all. I miss the glitched out synths and hardcore punk-style screaming. On first listen this album ranges from bland repetitive techno to... incoherent noise. Is that Alice singing on these tracks? She should go back to drunken screaming. Maybe it needs a few more listens to set in. Sometimes I judge things prematurely. But if anyone else gets around to hearing it, I'd be curious to know what your take on it is.
I'll believe that when I see her reproduce that live :-P
On second listen I didn't hate it as much, but I'm still dissapointed. I loved the whole glitched out 8-bit punk thing from the first CD. This one just doesn't live up to it.
i like it. the production is better but it doesn't necessarily feel too produced. maybe slightly. the vocals are a lot better though. i love the track with the Sigur Ros sample, "Year Of Silence".
a lot of these tracks seem pretty "club friendly". i don't frequent clubs so i have no clue on the validity of that statement, but i would get down to them.
