Looking forward to trying that. It's one of those that I've heard of but never had. I'm guessing that it is taking the place of Ommegang which doesn't look to be there this year.
Oh and put me in the Townsend ripped off SF Sorrow camp.
- Abita Beer - Asheville Brewing Company - Big River Brewing Company - Blue Moon Brewing Company - Bluegrass Brewing Company - Brooklyn Brewery - Good People Brewing Company - Highland Brewing Company - Lazy Magnolia Brewing Company - Leinenkugel Brewering Company - Magic Hat - Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project - North Coast Brewing Company - Schlafly Beer - Sierra Nevada Brewing Company - Starr Hill Brewery - SweetWater Brewing Company - Terrapin Beer Company - Thomas Creek Brewery - Woodchuck Cider - Yazoo Brewing Company
Looks like I get to try out all these different Southern beers while I'm down there, stuff I don't see back home. (Though I planned on stopping at Yazoo on Thursday afternoon.) That makes about half of this list.

Not too hard to meet up with my wife and I at the tent: Once the sun sets, we are in and out of that place till closing time. Also, wasn't Lazy Magnolia there last year? I kind of remember the Southern Pecan.

Pretty Lights is some of the best beer i've ever had!!!! hands down

Wow...the Pretty Things is a surprise to me. I have seen them come in large bottles going for $10-$12 by me. My favorite is the Saint Botolph's Town. I like Baby Tree though, but I doubt we see that on the farm since it is 9%.
Can someone to a run down on some of these smaller brewers?I haven't heard of some of them since many or based in the south I am guessing. I am familiar with Yazoo though.
ODB .... I'll try and do a few a day till I get this done.
*Abita ~ Louisiana Brewery. I've had a lot of Abita over the years. It's consistent 99% of the time as having a decent drink (but ironically enough holds my personal record for worst beer I've ever had, Pecan, but its a personal thing.) If I were a betting man I'd say the 2 that they will bring are
~ Purple Haze - 4.2 ABV%. Its a light raspberry beer thats best pared with a salad or desert. PH is really good for what it is. I haven't had it in a few years but I really liked that its a good summertime amber perfect for Tennessee heat.
~ Turbodog ~ 5.6 ABV%. Turbodog is a brown ale that has a full body and rich color with a sweet chocolate toffee taste. Like any brown it goes well with meats but what I've found out is it goes amazing with cheese as well .... Not that you need to worry about that one.
* Asheville Brewing Co. is from well ... You guessed it, Asheville, NC. Everyone goes gaga over ABC and I'm not sure why. I like it but its not a favorite. Hippies know how to brew beer though. I'll give em that.
~ Ninja Brown Porter. Crazy idea, I know, to mix a brown with a porter, but it really works for them. 5.25 ABV% porter that has carmel notes and a sweet chocolate finish. Plus it has a red tint to it as well. Goes well with meat, specifically BBQ.
~ Red Light. 5.20 ABV% American Style Pale Ale. It's pretty hoppy for a light colored beer. It fooled me the first time I had it. Pale Ale = Burgers. No exceptions.
*Bluegrass Brewing Company (BBC) I'm kinda biased toward BBC. I'm a dark beer lover and the Bourbon Barrel Stout is one of my favorites. I've never made it to the brewery, I don't think but I have been to one of their "restaurants" in Louisville. Normally I'd just give 2 beers I think they will have .... but they might surprise me.
~ American Pale Ale 6 ABV%. They will tell you that this APA has a copper color but its more on the orange side of copper, thich makes sense as that is the big finish for this beer. Not overtly hoppy but you can tell its a pale ale. Another that is great with Burgers and meat in general.
~ Amber Ale 5 ABV%. The flagship beer for BBC. Its a well rounded ale that can almost be considered a lager. It has a crisp flavor that has an almost citrus note to it. The malts are sweet. A very fragrant beer. It goes well with chicken and I really like it with a samosa.
~ Nut Brown Ale[/i] 5.5 ABV%. Its not the best Brown I've had by any means. Brooklyn and Left Hand make a far superior Brown Ale than BBC. There is just a hint of caramel in this full bodied Brown. I think my problem lies in the fact that they put too many different malts in and it comes out with an odd mouthfeel. Its a good beer, don't get me wrong, I just feel it gets lost in the shuffle of having so many great ones out there. Goes great with anything smoked or grilled.
I'll keep updating this post.

The Red Light sounds good to me. I'm going to have to give that a try - with a burger. Also, I agree on the Purple Haze review: It's a perfect summertime beer. Thanks for the reviews. This will help me make up my mind on what to try when I get down there.

This is also my groups home base inside Roo, and yea Lazy Magnolia was there I enjoyed many Southern Pecans.

Thanks. Rereading this I think my instructor would give me a solid D.
I'm gonna rework some of the parings and make em specific for the weekend.

Gah. Ok. I was thinking klimfactor was right. I hate Pecans. Now I know why I didn't try it.
Does anyone remember if the broo'ers festival is open 24 hours, or about what time do they close?
Don't think it's 24 hours. I think it shuts down sometime kinda late-ish though. Maybe. Don't quote me on it.
Plus by Sunday afternoon most of 'em have started packin' up, or at least it was that way back in 2008.
it technically shuts down at some point during the latenight but brewers will sometimes hang around. i went at like 3 am one morning and had a cool conversation with one of the sierra nevada brewers

IMO, the samples have gotten too expensive. At my first 'Roo, in 2007, a sample was $1. In 2008 they were $2, in 2009 they were $3, and last year a lot of the good ones were $4. That's hard to justify for a taste, especially when plenty of very good full beers are available for $7.
I see that Wisconsin's Leinenkugel's will have a stand at the Brooers Festival. I am a lifelong beer lover and politically active citizen in the state, and I feel compelled to say something about them.
As a beer lover: Given the choice between a Leinenkugel's and the Wisconsin microbrew behind Door #2, I will take the Wisconsin microbrew behind Door #2. The only time I will ever drink a Leinie's is at Brewers games at Miller Park, where they are the only alternative to the titular macrobrew. Leinenkugel's already has attained national (or close to it) distribution through their recent association with Miller-Coors, so their presence at the Brooers Festival should not offer anything you can't already get at home. I suggest that your money is better spent exploring many of the other worthy breweries with a presence at the Brooers Festival. There are no shortage of them.
As a politically active citizen: Scott Walker is my state's dipshit tea party governor elected last November, and my state has a severe case of buyer's remorse. He and his allies have attempted to rescind workers' rights, enacted the most restrictive voting legislation in the nation, violated open meetings laws, attempted to privatize my alma mater, hired for his administration sons of lobbyists and mistresses of legislators, prohibited collection of racial profiling statistics, and currently seeks the power to dissolve locally self-determined government bodies. That is airing but a few grievances, but I feel they are legitimate.
I participated in the citizens' peaceful occupation of my state house in Madison this February. I slept on the cold marble inside and on the freezing concrete outside. I marched with one hundred thousand; I watched my government conduct shameful business; I made signs; I wrote my representatives without response; I organized; I took The People's Mic at the protests; I blew on my vuvuzela when the situation called for it... These days, I am an intern with the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. I spend as many hours of my week working for free to thwart Scott Walker as I spend gainfully employed. It is, in many senses, a big part of my mission in life for much of the next year to make the lives of Scott Walker and his allies a living hell until the day we finally get to run them all out of office.
In addition to my activities outlined above, I put my money where my mouth is: I boycott Scott Walker campaign contributors - including the Leinenkugel Brewing Company. Quick anecdote: Last year, one of the Leinenkugel brothers was contemplating a run for the Republican nomination to oppose Sen. Russ Feingold. The ensuing backlash led to his quick withdrawal from the race - the negative effect his stance had on the Leinenkugel business/brand was enough to discourage his participation in the primary. I ask that all of you join me in boycotting Leinenkugel's at the Brooers Festival this year. For those of you who are sympathetic to my cause and are feeling particularly ballsy, I suggest that you let the Leinenkugel's people know why you are opting to patronize one of the other options in the tent. Most corporations have a policy which requires any instance of protest to be reported - even an offhand comment like that can help send a message.
Please boycott Leinenkugel's at the Brooers Festival this year - for the sake your taste buds, for the sake of the other breweries there, for the sake of getting the most bang for your beer-buying buck and (hopefully) for the sake of your conscience.
