i dont see why we are even having this discussion? its a moot point. Arcade Fire and The Strokes are at Bonnaroo, do you really think that we are going to have 3 of Coachella's top 4?
Coach also sold out in 6 days. I think Roo wouldn't hate to do the same.

i know i thought that might be a stretch too but i think were really running out of options. hes arguably the biggest name in current, mainstream hip hop right now outside of Wayne
Guess what? He'd be headlining this time around. His ego would be in check.

Good point, but the way it's presented now, The Strokes wouldn't be a top 6 act.

I don't think we will but it's not that crazy of an idea. Clearly, that top of the card excited people enough to sell out Coachella really fast. And since it's sold out, many people are missing out on seeing those great acts in one setting. If Roo got those three acts plus some other big names (MMJ, Widespread, Saturday HL) then it'd be like Coachella plus more and might make good money.
Bonnaroo has had at least one headliner every year that had international success before the 90s, so I think we can agree that there will be one "classic" name on Saturday and rule out bands like The Killers ot Muse as the Saturday headliner.
Also, insider's posts that a.) she hadnt seen us speculate the band at all and b.) To start thinking less "big name" headliners probably rules out the likes of U2, Macca, the Who and the Stones. Although I think the Stones are probably the only possibility of the 4 with their alleged tour and the "still in talks" thing that insider mentioned. This probably also rules out Neil solo too
So can we collectively agree that the 2 remaining slots likely fall into these 2 groups:
Saturday HL CSNY/Buffalo Springfield The Eagles R.E.M.
Saturday Hip Hop Act Eminem and/or Dr. Dre Kanye(+JayZ?) Drake OutKast (not likely)
i can totally agree. drake is doubtful imo. maybe add 1 or 2 other bands from around REM's time frame. but yeah. that's about it from where i'm standing. we need to put this together in a dossier and present it to Insider.
I remember multiple people saying just this when he was announced in 08. I wish I could dig up those posts. Guess what? He didn't destroy Bonnaroo.

Alex, do you know something we don't know about Kanye? You have mentioned Kanye playing several times. I respect your opinions, last year even the drummer of Gaslight anthem didn't know they were playing Bonnaroo(he said they werent via a text)..and you told me you had legit info that they were...and they did...so what are you holding out on Kanye?

There are only a few candidates who'd serve as Bonnaroo's hip hop headliner. That's why he has to at least be considered.

People have been mentioning NY alot lately... so unfortunately I don't think its going to be him from what insider said.
I think Drake is more of a stretch than OutKast. I'd like to think they somehow put RATM under that rap/hip-hop moniker.
Almost think there is some other band out there that has not been mentioned that would fall into the Saturday HL spot.
Cypress Hill isn't that big any more. I work for the venue they played here, there are three rooms and they played the middle one, which is the same Manchester Orchestra, New Found Glory, and Bassnectar played and smaller than the one Vampire Weekend, Snow Patrol, and Flaming Lips did.
And I'm sure they didn't sell out.

Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.

just throwing in my opinion on kanye, I wasn't there in 08, and I would be okay with Kanye playing. I don't think he'd throw the same shit, I think he'd put on a damn good show. That being said, I think for a lot of the Bonnaroo population, it's too soon. 3 years really isn't that long, and I think it would be more reasonable to give the whole thing another year or two to cool off. It's still a pretty heated debate and I don't think people at Roo want to risk anything going badly vis a vis people's reaction to Kanye.
Also it is possible Kanye is stickin' to his guns and doesn't want to come back.
Considering the 08 fiasco and the fact that Bonnaroo has rarely (ever) had repeat headliners - aside from Panic/Dead or Phish-related acts - I'd be surprised if Kanye returns....

Kanye didn't headline. And acts starting on the undercard and eventually headlining has happened multiple times.

this is the problem with guys like Kanye though, if he gets away with it once and than gets asked back, he wins...further building to his ego. Your right though, as soon as he came on on-time and put on the glow show and apologized I think everyone would get over it
Personally i think kanye sucks and is a piece of shit, but aside from that, I just dont want roo spending the money on him. For what they pay kanye to headline they could easily get 2 amazing undercard acts. Big Boi is going to put on just as good of a show as kanye ever could (regardless of what you think about who's better and more popular). Big Boi is more fun and will actually play to the crowd, not him self.
Same with Drake. Saw him at voodoo and his set went like this...
Song Rant about my self Song Rant about weezy Song Rant about New Orleans Song Rant about weezy getting out of jail Song Rant about how cool Weezy Thinks i am
He spent the whole time trying to get people to realize how awesome he was.

Agreed. Cypress Hill is in the top tier at Summer Camp this year, which is a relatively tiny festival in Illinois, no way they would be in the top 20, IMO, at Bonnaroo.

So if they've repeated Widespread Panic, Dead-related acts, Dave Matthews Band, and apparently tried to repeat Radiohead......how are you getting that they rarely ever have repeat headliners?

The only people pissed off at Kanye for the Bonnaroo 08 performance are on this message board. I was there and laughed my ass off when he performed because he had a gigantic egg on his face after demanding the whole schedule to be centered around him and then shows up three hours late and performs a half ass concert. Total train wreck. But hey, at least I was there, and I got over it the next day. You should too. That being said, I doubt it's Kanye, for one, we already have two of Coachella's headliners and one is not one at Bonnaroo. If anything, I think we're waiting on The Stones before we do anything. The last two years we've had one headliner with Glastonbury and I'm betting that's where the arrow is pointing.
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts

What are the chances that Insider is toying with us with the "lower your expectations thing". Now, she could be a real straight-shooter, but as she does seem to work for Superfly or someone else high up and in the know, it's not outrageous to think that she is priming us for a huge pleasant surprise of the likes of a Daft Punk. I sincerely doubt that'd she come out and lie (i.e. you can count Radiohead IN), but why not just go ahead and shoot down debatably the biggest band anyone has gotten super excited about just to put us out of our misery.
This is all speculation (what isn't at this point), but it just surprises me that every year this insider who clearly still works for or is dating/married to someone who still works for the organizers could get away with this every year. As Superfly does have a good relationship with inforoo, why not have her as part of the system to fix the anomaly of inforoo and the over-obsessed among us.
