the drunkest parts of me have decided that the headliner doesn't matter, and the undercard will be so hip hop heavy you won't even care. M&M's all day and all night and hope that the lineup comes sooner then later

If a hip hop artest is going to be top billed top 6 Bonnaroo they are really hot at the time. Kanye and Jay-Z were when they were both there. Snoop was 8 on the bill. The hip hop artest could just be a top 10 again. They do not have to reach for the stars.
"Diddy" also has some new music. Maybe he is waiting to release is tour schedule. That would be the Leno...
I really hope it's not Eminem, not only was his last 2 albums sub-par imo (Relapse for the stupid accents and Recovery for trying to cross-over SO hard) but b/c he lipsyncs mostly live or sometimes just has a backing vocal track. If you're a headliner and you're pulling that shit, that's lame.
Dr Dre is almost 50 years old and hasn't toured in 11 years. If you're a rapper at that age and you don't tour you're going to suck live. You're breath control will be off, you're show will be stiff and probably will forget lyrics. Don't know why ppl keep saying this, b/c besides Snoop & Em everybody he's worked with on the regular (Meaning worth coming out on stage, not just going to Bonnaroo for 1 verse) is washed up as hell (Kurrupt, Xzibit, Daz, Warren G) so I don't know how by adding them Dr Dre can become a headliner (Definitely not a headliner on his own nowadays).
Lil Wayne is big on the radio and has a lot of fans with his mixtapes but isn't really known for touring (Doesn't play big venues). And from what I heard puts on not so great shows and will probably try to play guitar horribly.
BEP while big and do tour a good amount isn't really a Roo type act. It would very much surprise me if they were booked since they would probably beat out last years Lolla pick of Gaga as the most current radio-friendly headliner for a US festival and would be a horrible sign of the direction music festivals will go.
The hip hop artists that could fill the headliner status (Without thinking about probability, just popularity status) would be Em, Kanye or Jay-z/Kanye (Their album is suppose to come out in April), Beastie Boys, Outkast, Wu-Tang (They just did a reunion tour together late last year), A Tribe Called Quest and maybe The Roots (Not huge but I can see them pushing for headline status since they're now on tv, put on 3 hour concerts, have proven themselves at festivals for years. Would explain the not think so high-profile for the headliner). These imo are the most likely headliners, will be extremely shocked if it's not any of these.
Wu-Tang was just on tour again and was playing 3-5K seat venues. They definitely won't headline Bonnaroo- and check out this lineup from the 07 Rock the Bells- I was at this show and it was an unbelievable festival. RTB has really fallen off the past few years in comparison to 07 but they did have A Tribe Called Quest headline a few years after and that was a great performance. That said- If its not Up in Smoke for the HL I'm really hoping for Rage
as long as there's something wonderful going on in the Troo music lounge like when the Bakerton group played during KoL last year I really don't care who or what headlines Saturday. I would hope for a rock legend/classic rock act, but if I have a good alternative in an intimate setting, and seating...I'll be happy. Worst case scenario, I'll grab a nap.
I know that I don't have the appreciation for rap that I should...I like the beats, but am turned off by many of the lyrics. Of course I surprised myself by having a blast at Snoop Dogg in '09.

True but headliner status can differ from their tour level. I mean didn't Soundgarden headline Lolla last year and do relatively the same size venue tour? I don't think it's Wu but I think they'd be pretty high on the line-up if not headline if they were all there.
Like I said Up in Smoke would be a joke in 2011, even if they updated it with newer rappers (Game?)
Rage would be amazing but I think Zack's doing ODAAL now.
Everyone expected all sorts of guests last year with Dave and with Jay-Z. It didn't really happen the way everyone expected. If we got Dr. Dre, I think you have to expect guests, especially since he doesn't tour and has been more a producer the last decade. He would be the top name, but if he brings some friends, it would be a hell of a time and strong enough to be #1 on the lineup. Getting those guests there could be part of the negotiation going on.
Not that I want it, but if you're playing the Super Bowl, you're big enough to headline Bonnaroo, no matter who you are. So we need to consider BEP a strong possibility.
I personally think it will be Eminem and I'm not super excited about that either.
Also, no one seems to be mentioning Gorillaz...? They aren't easily tagged into any individual genre but definitely fall within the reaches of "hip-hop".
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver

Black Eyed Peas would not/could not/will not headline Bonnaroo.
If BEP were there they would easily be top 4, but if they were there as the main Saturday night act this year they would be top-billed on the lineup and there is no way that would ever happen.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

No they wouldn't. They weren't Top 4 at Outside Land, and Bonnaroo is bigger than Outside Lands, and they were riding a more popular album then than they are now.

I could see them holding down Jay-Z's spot from last year, but nothing more than that.

And point taken about Dr. Dre not touring in a long time, but I don't know how much age is a factor in that considering he is just a few years older than Jay-Z and essentially the same age as every member of the Beastie Boys.
Age isn't a problem in general, I mean Robert Plant is still rocking it way past them. Jay-Z was hit or miss for shows until he got a live band and started taking touring seriously. Dre could put on a good show too if he did the same but just think it might take a minute to get there and Bonnaroo isn't too far away. After seeing Sly Stone last year at Coachella just don't want to see anymore legends embarrass themselves (Dre would never be that bad but still).

What about Kid Rock for the "hip hop" headliner? He really hasn't been doing that type of music lately, but could certainly appeal to a lot of different people at Bonnaroo and could sell a few tickets. I doesn't look like he has much scheduled past March, so he should be free. I'm not sure how I feel about him being a headliner, but I think he is a big enough name to be included in the conversation.

TBH, Goodie Mob can't headinline. Neither can Nas, Rick Ross, etc.
If you rule out Jay solo and Beasties, then
Eminem, Outkast, Kanye, Dr. Dre, & BEP as the only realistic possibilities. I could see Beyonce too.
Of those, I can't see Eminem and Dre performing together. It could be one or the other, but Em doesn't really seem like a Bonnaroo type of act and Dre has given no indication he's performing anytime soon.
Outkast? One could hope, but there's a lot of stuff that points otherwise. Big Boi has solo shows scheduled for 2011 and he has stated on numerous ocassions that they won't get back together until Andre does his solo thing.
Kanye? Well, there's the obviously reasons why people would say no chance, but he did help sell out Coachella. Money talks for any festival, really.
Kanye + Jay-Z? A pipe dream, but they'd headline this fest.
BEP? Ugh.
It's not Kanye. Insider said to stop talking about Kanye. So you can rule him out.
And Dr. Dre IS scheduled to be playing soon...at the Grammy's. So on your list of likelihood, switch Dre and Kanye (I'm very grateful for this)
