So I think the first 6 tracks are brilliant, right up there with the best stuff they've released. But the last couple tracks are a bit of ponderous way to end the album. When I went back and isolated the tracks, I really like Giving Up the Ghost and Separator. They just feel out of order, like they meant to end on Giving Up the Ghost but just accidentally slipped it in front of Separator.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
In Rainbows sounded nothing like Burial. Neither does this really.
BTW, everything you said here is EXACTLY what The Bends/OK Computer people were bitching about when Kid A/Amnesiac came out only then it was "if I wanted another attempt at being Squarepusher I could have looked elsewhere"...
You're right about Burial. This is more like their best attempt at recreating the James Blake s/t album. The only difference is that album has some memorable moments. This is just dull all around.
Be interested to see how you really feel about the album.
I'm at work still and I'm so excited to finally hear the album in about three hours! All of your reviews have helped me manage until I make it home. We are having a listening party, track by track discussion, followed by the whole album in its entirety. Your opinion, track by track first or all at once first? and I feel like awatd is lying, and how can people compare radiohead to a guy with one real album?

All at once first. You're going to need that second track-by-track listen to fully digest the album. It's very much not an instantly gratifying thing.

Ok I'm having a really hard time figuring out how to explain this... but... Well, I really really love this album in and of itself, but somehow it just doesn't feel like a radiohead album ought to feel. I think I need a couple days worth of listenings before I can fully appreciate it. I think this has the potential, though, to be my favorite radiohead album. But I can't jump to conclusions this soon
still not sure if you are being sarcastic. coming from one radiohead super fan to another, i feel like you are joking
Not joking about all at once. I really do love it, and you should listen to it all the way through the first time then dissect it afterwards. The album flows really well and centers around the best song making for a good all-the-way-thru listen.
It is easily some of the most exciting news ever. What is with this month? Lose the Stripes, LCD calls it quits but announces a farewell show that is sure to be BA, LCD fans get quacked in the ticket shuffle, Radiohead drops an album.
It's weird, ya know?
Exactly my thoughts this morning waking up to the text saying there album was dropping today I've already listened to it a few times today and I'm hooked The video also just makes me so happy : ]
King of Limbs, double album? I have a theory. What if The King of Limbs is actually a double album....
Consider the following issues...
Length:
This album is only 8 tracks and just under 38 minutes long. Radiohead isn't known for brevity.
Also, consider that the box set comes with TWO 10" discs. That is WAY more space than a simple 38 minutes of music!
Separator:
The last song is called "Separator."
WHAT IF
"Separator" is actually the MIDDLE track in a double-album, the 2nd half of which will be released tomorrow as scheduled.
Also, consider that one of the last lines of Separator is "If you Think this is over, you're wrong"
Also, consider that Separator has been a melody circulating about under the name "Mouse, Bird, Dog" as a live track Yorke played last year. Was the name changed simply to hint at this double album?
Its definitley there least accesible album, not many hooks to be found. Its definitley an album that takes patience for it to grow on you but after about 5 listens im really starting to dig it. Although im not sure why they included the song Feral. I dont understand why an album with only 8 songs needs a filler song like that.

^^ There least accessible album? I would say that casual fans or non fans would have a much harder time wrapping their heads around Amnesiac or Kid A.
Now that I am about 5 listens through I like it quite a bit. For me it is the perfect storm of the dark, atmospheric soundscapes of Kid A meshed with the sound and overall vibe of the tunes from In Rainbows.

I think you're nuts, Feral is an extremely strong track. It's like Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors little cousin, I dig it.

i love the album. ive heard it about four times now and each time it has sounded differently. of course i've also been in different states of intoxication during some of the listens, but its very deep. it just ends too soon! i think it makes sense that it might be half of a double album, especially with the file being called tkol1 as if there is a tkol2, but im not going to get my hopes up just yet.
most importantly, im ready to see these songs performed live!
