It's my first year even following Bonnaroo, and I plan on getting tickets and going this year. Unfortunately, I won't be able to access a computer this saturday when tickets go on sale. Do tickets sell out within the weekend? Or do I have nothing to worry about? Thanks
You probably don't need to worry about it (or at least until late April). If tickets are selling briskly, they usually put out press releases, touting record sales, etc.
They will not sell out for months. However, they are more expensive the longer you wait. I believe they increase the price after they sell 20,000 and then again when they hit 40,000. If they do sell out, there is nothing to worry about. Scalpers are always around when you get off the exit. The cheapest way to buy is to look around craigslist about 2 weeks before June. Someone always has to cancel their plans, and is looking to just get rid of a ticket or 2. I've found tickets 2 days before the weekend for less than $200 a couple years back
They definitely won't sell out within the first weekend, not by a long shot (I still can't believe that Coachella sold out as quickly as it did). From what I understand, there hasn't been a sellout in about 5 or 6 years now, if not longer. However, with that stacked lineup, I would not be surprised if it does sell out this year - but even if that happens, it won't be 'til at least May or so. You should be fine.
Bonnaroo's not like a club that has to follow strict capacity laws - it basically sells out whenever they choose to stop selling tickets. Considering that they've had a few years with below-expected attendance ('08 had fewer than 70,000 people), they'll probably up the attendance cap by a few thousand if the demand is really that strong.
P.S. Welcome to the board! Enjoy your first Roo... you're gonna have a blast.
Alright thanks guys. I'm not gonna worry about it then. I don't think I have the balls though to wait a week before the festival and get one on craiglist. I'll just order a ticket next week. Unfortunately I won't be camping this year but instead staying at a hotel. I have to fly in and camping would be too much of a hassle. I'm excited nonetheless.
The only way Roo sells out is if people who couldn't get tickets to Coachella and Sasquatch want to go to Roo, which is unlikely.
The lineup caters to the old school jam/head fest crowd this year, which is not nearly as big as the Coachella/Lolla/Sasquatch/Bonnaroo (2008-2010) crowd. Honestly I don't think you'll see a huge draw from the population centers like Chicago, Miami, Philly, NYC that you got in past years. This lineup is a drastic departure (with a few exceptions) from the current music scene going on in those cities. I would even go so far as to say, for good or for bad, this years line up is not even relavent outside the Bonnaroo scene itself.
Now if Bonnaroo actually makes significant and numerous additions this might change. But remember Bonnaroo also has the largest capacity of all Festivals and has unscalpable tickets this year.

I've been curious about this: What is the capacity of Coachella? I've been to the Gorge (not for Sasquatch) several times and I was not surprised that it sold out being that it's just a huge amphitheater. Isn't Bonnaroo at capacity at 80,000? I know that they have added more camping but centeroo hasn't grown any bigger. Just curious

LOL at Bonnaroo not having relevant music. Relevant to you maybe.

The Coachella capacity is somewhere around 65,000-70,000 tickets this year (though official numbers aren't released everyone on the 'chella forums seems to think that pretty accurate)
There were several factors present this year in causing Coachella to sell out (camping tickets selling out in under 12 hrs, viral internet driven hysteria, decreased allotment of tickets over last year, VIP selling out in only 6 days) that are not present with Bonnaroo.
Also as someone else has already stated, Superfly and AC Entertainment own most of the farm that Bonnaroo is held on, and can cap the attenadance much more liberally. In 2004 they reputedly sold 90,000 tickets with over 100,000 attendees on the farm. (Which made for a nice 1.5 mile march to our campsite that year)
Indio is held on a privately owned polo ground and surrounded by very nice neihborhoods and vacation homes in Indio, and are subject to the capacity constraints of both the city and the polo club.
LASTLY: The only year that bonnaroo sold out well in advance was the first year in 2002.
