Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I saw The Black Angels in 07 having no idea who they were beforehand, and I sat with my friends in the field surrounding This Tent completely captivated! I remeber the sun had just gone down while they were playing, so maybe they started early. Honestly this was one of my favorite Bonnaroo shows ever. That year, so much hype surrounded Tool and seeing this (then) little Austin band rocked way harder than Tool.
I'm listening to their newest album right now for the first time, and it's really good. A little less in your face psychedelic than their previous two albums, but a step in a cool new direction and i dig it. Be sure to check out this band...I PROMISE you, you'll dig it!
They were awesome last night. Seems they have gained alot more popularity since I saw them about 6 months ago because they were in a tour bus instead of a 16 passenger van this time and had more equipment. If you like psych rock at all you have to see The Black Angels.

I'm glad to hear someone else can see it. I tell people that at home when they ask me about them. I feel sometimes like I shouldn't say it because it's an odd comparison but to me he sounds more similar than anyone else I can think of off the top of my head.
My question is: Who else is playing with them in a tent for late-night? Music wise they are kind of the odd one of the bunch. I'm assuming they open a tent.
I think The Black Angels may open a tent. As much as I love the band, I don't think they are big enough to headline a late-night tent. Though it would be awesome if they did.

Yeah, but neither were The Secret Machines in 05, or even Volta for that matter..
I was lying in a burned out basement With the full moon in my eyes. I was hoping for replacement When the sun burst thru the sky. There was a band playing in my head And I felt like getting high.

What do you mean by headline? There's usually two acts to a tent, given the number of LN acts this year I don't really expect to see any more than that. As far as who plays first vs second, it's hard for me to say the first or second act has priority over the other. I think it really depends on what else is going on; usually the slightly bigger act goes first (Black Keys before Cudi and BOB, Daryl Hall and Chromeo before Galactic last year, LCD and Bassnectar are pretty even honestly) unless a headliner is playing the What or something - they wouldn't stack Jay-Z against Deadmau5, for instance, so Dan Deacon plays first.
The later sets are cool but at some point people start going to bed and the crowd filters out. LCD thinned out a lot last year by the time it ended.
They only have three: Passover, Directions to See A Ghost, and Phosphene Dream. While their last one, Phosphene Dream is not bad at all; it just does not stack up to their first two which are amazing.

Maybe that's why I can't get into these guys. So far I've only listened to phosphen dream...
In 2007, my first year at Bonnaroo, I missed two fantastic bands on Thursday. The National and The Black Angels. The Bonnaroo Gods have been gracious enough to book The National in 2010 and The Black Angels in 2011.
You're WELCOME. We'll remember your gratitude next year when KE$HA headlines.
Well, I'm fuckin super pumped now. Probably would have missed them if they played during the day. Now we get an epic late night ball trippin kind of show!!

just talked to their monitor engineer last night.
it still could be wrong though... when I am on tour, I know that I only check the itinerary for show time the day of... but it is Roo, and getting a friday midnight spot is a pretty big deal.

If they do play midnight Friday, I really really hope that Arcade Fire play from 10-12. Those are the two bands I want to see more than anyone else so it would be pretty disastrous for me to have to miss the Black Angels because Arcade Fire play until 1:00.
