(Rolling Stone) -- "The working title, as of right now, is 'Get Well Soon Everybody,' " Jeff Tweedy, the singer-songwriter-leader of Wilco, says of his band's eighth studio album, now in the mixing stage at the group's Chicago studio, the Loft, and due for release in September. "If I could say anything to the world at large, that would be it."
The record will be Wilco's first on their own label, dBpm -- shorthand for decibels per minute -- and Tweedy's third set of new songs with his longest-running lineup: bassist John Stirratt, guitarist Nels Cline, drummer Glenn Kotche, keyboard player Mikael Jorgenson and multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansome. The group has recorded more than 20 songs, Tweedy says, "out of the things I had coming in, which was somewhere in the fifties and sixties. It's a pretty great time for me writing-wise."
After Wilco finished touring last year, "we took a little more time off the road than we normally do," says Tweedy. "Certainly, it's been the longest break I've had since my twenties, and that's been a big help, wading out that far from the comfort of the old songs. You have to keep your mind sharp to play your old songs. It's hard to allow yourself to freely think about what you want to do next, when you're that close to doing another show."
The album includes a seven-minute track, "Art of Almost," which starts with shadowy electronics, gently turns into a haunted vocal section, then sprints into a Krautrock-style blowout. There are also two country-flavored songs, the spectral ballad "Black Moon" and the jauntier "Whole Love." "There are two strong threads of material," Tweedy says, "one being a little weirder -- snot-nosed obnoxious pop songs -- and the other more languid, atmospheric-country music." "Whole Love" grew out of "a chord progression I found interesting," he notes. But the arrangements are the product "of six guys being pretty remarkable at communicating without talking and having a lot of trust in each other."
Tweedy points out that the name of Wilco's label -- to be distributed by ANTI -- was originally a working title for the 2004 album, "A Ghost Is Born." "It doesn't make any sense," he admits. "But as a graphic, it looks cool.

this is so exciting! i cannot wait to hear some new stuff and be able to go to a wilco show again. it's probably too early, but have any of these songs leaked yet or been heard by anyone?
I'm hoping it will be more experimental/adventurous than their last couple records. Thought Sky Blue Sky, while decent, was a disappointment. Wilco (The Album), while much better, still gave me the thought of "come on, guys, you can do better"

I agree. They must know that too. I'm thinking now that they're on their own label maybe we'll all get what we're hoping for.

Can't wait for it, even though I found The Whole Love really disappointing
......? But... the album's not even out yet? Unless it leaked super early and it somehow managed to slip under my radar screen? WHAT HAVEN'T YOU TOLD ME?!?!
The new stuff sounds great live. Only reason I haven't jumped on the Wang tickets yet is because I'll probably be traveling in the fall - but I may still grab a pair just in case. I'd rather have to take a loss on tickets I can't use than have to take a loss on buying tickets from StubHub/eBay.
All tix are will call and you enter immediately to prevent scalping.
So glad they're doing it this way. I wish more bands would start paperless ticketing, so the real fans don't have to pay some ludicrously inflated prices to dirty scalpers if they wanna go.

LOVE it! I didn't hate WTA, in fact Bull Black Nova is one of my favorite Wilco songs. However there was a disparity in relation to their other albums. I'm very impressed with what I have heard so far of this album. I am about half way through, Wilco spinning in the nurses station.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

^^yes.
Black Moon takes me back to Wilco of old. Nice.
^^double yes.
I listened to the album four or five times yesterday (had to get my fill before they took it down) - it's a major step up from their last album. I think the closing track "One Sunday Morning (Song for Jane Smiley's Boyfriend)" is one of the best songs they've ever recorded.
So, yeah... the 20th needs to get here like now-ish.
