I first listened to this album and thought it was bland and inaccessible. And I know it has not reviewed particularly well in most write-ups.
But I did that weird "Keep Listening Until I 'Get It'" thing that I do. And the more I listen the more I really like this thing. It's gotten to the point that once in a while I find myself craving it. Like an itch I gotta scratch.
It feels like an experimental album. They've really felt around for interesting blends of synth and rock, with a variety of lyrical atmospheres. I think anyone trying to evaluate this album with just a few listens is missing out on quite a bit.
Anyway, just sharing my experience with a very talented group's release.
I think it's a great album, way better than their first. A lot of people think it's some huge deviation from their first record, but it's really not. The second half of that album is definitely better than the single-heavy first half, and I'm glad they decided to expand upon the psychedelic second half instead of the poppy, boring first half. I'm excited to see what they do next, because I think it could be excellent.
I think I'll throw this on the turntable when I get home, as a matter of fact.

i find it kind of silly that this thread has been made like what.. a year after the release of it? haha But, I had to do the same exact thing. i kept listening, listening, listening, until it finally grew on me. Still like Oracular Spectacular better because I LOVE every song on it.. can't say that about too many albums. But none the less, Congratulations is great. Whistle and Someone's Missing are my favorites.

Well, I buy my music, I'm not rich, and I like a wide array of stuff. There's no way I can buy every new album I'm interested in. So I just got this a couple months ago.
I still haven't bought Grizzly Bear, either. Maybe you'll get that review soon.

There is another thread, but it hasn't been bumped in over a year, this one is more current
Personally, I love this album the way I love albums like Darkside of the Moon. The songs themselves are fine... but once the whole thing comes on at once? Impossible for me to turn off! (and sometimes hit repeat repeat repeat )

WHAAAAAT?!?!?! you must go out and buy it now! Love Veckatimest. I don't think it beats Yellow House for me, but it's a great record. I respect the fact that you buy your music though. I only buy my #1 favorite of all time artist's albums.. Kinda feel like a bad person now.
