So, it's out there if you look, though it isn't technically released yet. Anyone listen yet? Thoughts?
I am not the typical Arctic Monkeys fan...in that I loved Humbug more than the first two albums. I have been on board with them since the early days of pre-Domino demos. I have enjoyed every musical decision they've made, and felt that they were growing in the best possible way as a band. Sonically they just kept getting better. I even loved all of Alex's side projects, counting both The Age of the Understatement and the Submarine soundtrack among my favorite albums.
Then came Suck It and See. I was looking forward to more dark, Josh Homme inspired Humbug-esque tracks. Then they said this album was going to be more mellow, and with the inclusion of Piledriver Waltz, I was okay with that. But Brick by Brick came out and I hated it, then Don't Sit Down Cause I Moved Your Chair...hated that too. I was getting really worried because I've NEVER not loved one of their songs (yes, even Sketch Head). Now that the full album is out I feel better. It isn't an instant classic to me like the other three (classic to ME, not to music in general, don't get me wrong). I like She's Thunderstorms, Black Treacle, and I love The Hellcat Spangled Shalala, That's Where You're Wrong, and obviously Piledriver Waltz, but it has taken me many days of listening to get to that point. It's a grower of an album, but just not as good as what they've done in the past.
Because I am such a mega-fan (seen them live over 10 times, pilgrimaged to Sheffield, I've met them and semi-melted down in front of Matt, etc), I'd be interested to see what others who maybe aren't as obsessive think of it.

Yeah, I had no trouble with Alex...we just chatted about how my mom has a crush on him, and since she has also met him in the past, he tried to recall if he left a good impression. But Matt...guh...his drumming is so immense.

I recind everything I said earlier...I saw them live on Friday (7th time...and that number will be over 10 by the end of this year), and ended up marathoning the new album all weekend. I am now completely in love with it. It might be my 3rd favorite album from them, but considering how much I love the rest of them, that's pretty damn good. Black Treacle is so damn infectious.

They were great, the Rave was as shitty as ever. As always, their shows at the Riv in Chicago, or the Jackie Gleason in Miami were better out of the ones I've seen...but the crowd was enthusiastic and they seemed to feed off of that. I did get spit on though...so that kind of cut down on my enjoyment.
