I guess I'll make the part at the end of each of these posts where I acknowledge I am incredibly biased and have an unnatural dislike for Deadmau5 much bigger and bolder next time.
And Deadmau5 didn't headline Lolla, he was in a Black Keys/MMJ role (aka Pre-Headliner).
So don't take it personal if I say ridiculous things regarding posts about Deadmau5, I just really don't want him eating up a late night spot when I would sooner listen to William Shatner perform Physical Graffiti as the spoken word (complete with bongo player) than have the faintest hint of Deadmau5 in the background noise of a show I actually want to be at.
But I just can't see Deadmau5 being the first DJ to close the which.
I could be wrong because I wasnt there, but I dont think Deadmau5 was a pre-headliner Sun night. He went head to head with Foo Fighters to close out the stages. Again, I could be completely wrong.
GirlTalk had like 20,000 people at his tent last year, I doubt they'd bill Deadmau5 higher than GirlTalk was.
You honestly don't think that Deadmau5 would bring in more people than GirlTalk?
Honestly? Not sure. GirlTalk has a massive following in the adolescent/college age group. They basically pull from the same group of fans, but GirlTalk incorporates so much pop and hip hop into his music that I feel he would at least be on par with Deadmau5 in terms of how many glowstick-wielding hormone-factories come to Roo.
I just keep pulling up the mental clip in my mind of walking from SCI to GirlTalk (I was with a very persuasive girl who wouldn't take no for an answer) and being like "what in the blue f*** is this?" as I saw a shadowy black mass of people as far in every direction as I could see. I was so far back that I could still hear SCI louder than GT.
The only reasoning I could think of to put Deadmau5 on the Which is they saw GT last year and fear another situation like that (which isn't fun for the security/healthcare folks). But GT also went against SCI, Gogol and a non-existent STS9 (who went on super late), so the show probably wouldn't have been as crowded if STS9 went on at their scheduled time. With SCI emptying out and no STS9 to go to, GT just got overrun by people who wanted to keep dancing (and after that SCI show, I can't say I blame them).

I was referring to how they were billed on the lineup, not when they played. You are right, I believe, regarding the slot he played.

It's harder to define headliners at Lolla because there's usually just 1 unopposed act all weekend. That being said, he closed out a main stage opposite Foo Fighters and is billed 6th. He would definitely be on the Which Stage LN if he were at Roo.
Oh come on, isn't time for you to go ruin a game of Mafia yet?
For the record, GT sold out Terminal 5 and Deadmau5 sold out Roseland, who both have about the same capacity, for essentially the same price. That may not translate to festival crowds, though.

Deadmau5 also sold out the Rogers Center in TO. The bottom at least.
And he sold out Earl's Court

Deadmau5 is from Toronto, no? And he did sell out the bottom bowl.
I honestly don't care, I just don't want the guy there. Arguing about Deadmau5's festival credentials is about as exciting as paint drying. He's not headlining Bonnaroo, and that's what this thread is for.
We are free to discuss any kind of music as long as it is in reference to the thread title. So, unless you are trying to start a fight, please join the discussion or let it go. Thanks.

Yes, he did. That's considered a headliner at Lolla, there are two per evening, because there are two main stages.
You just proved yourself wrong with your own point. Deadmau5 was in the same slot as Black Keys and My Morning Jacket. Let's look at where they were booked this year on the Roo lineup...
Deadmau5 is a which stage act now. They only edm act larger than him in the US is Daft Punk.
*Guess I should have read the most recent page, seems you guys have this covered.

Yeah, let's take a festival that isn't Roo, and then use the way they booked their festival (one that plays two headliners at once) and project it onto Roo.
Deadmau5 plays at concert halls in NYC that bands like Trombone Shorty, Umphrey's McGee and bands of that level play. If he was "the biggest EDM act in the US" he'd be playing shows for more than 4,000 or so people in a city with multiple concert halls that seat over 10,000.

He said 2nd biggest, but he is doing exactly that in Las Vegas.

Oh come on.
Acts that have played the same slot Deadmau5 played this year at Lolla (in the last three years)...
My Morning Jacket, Nine Inch Nails, Janes Addiction, Wilco, Phoenix, Arcade Fire (in 2010), Coldplay, Kings of Leon, The Strokes, Raconteurs, and Beastie Boys were originally scheduled for it.
That's all of them. Really not sure how you can argue Deadmau5's drawing power when he's in such company.

This is like saying "Trombone Shorty is headlining Jazz Fest" as if that's a grand shock to the system. Shorty isn't headlining Bonnaroo, but he's billed higher than the Eagles at Jazz Fest.
I have no idea how big Pier 36 is, but he's playing there in NYC on NYE and tickets are $195
6,000 people.
And tickets for Afrojack @ Roseland on 12/30 are going for about $150+. It's NYE in NYC. A homeless guy playing a Chello with his weenie and it'd be an expensive ticket.

Whoa. That's a ton of 6th billed acts for the past three years!
Since you guys get entirely WAY to uptight about some douchey clown in a Mouse costume, I'll continue saying Deadmau5 is terrible until your heads explode.

I don't care for Deadmau5, that doesn't mean I can't understand how popular he is.
The list is everyone that headlined the North Stage at Lolla, the same stage Deadmau5 headlined. The 6th billed acts at Lolla from that list are Phoenix and the Raconteurs.
He said 2nd biggest, but he is doing exactly that in Las Vegas.

I don't think that's a very good comparison, but whatever. You can say that you don't like Deadmau5 all you want to. My head won't explode. It would have long ago from this board. I get it, people have different tastes in music, whatever.
But you are ignoring every logical point thrown at you. For example, when given every artist listed 4-6 on Lolla's lineup in the past 3 years, which illustrates that each of them is too big for a tent at Bonnaroo, you ignore it and have a poor deflection that there can't be that many #6 artists in 3 years. Well no shit. But by saying that, you totally side-stepped the point. Every other 4-6 ranked artist has held down a stage at Roo.
You honestly don't think that Deadmau5 would bring in more people than GirlTalk?

Not that we need to keep rambling about this at this point, but ftr Girl Talk also played Lolla this year. Girl Talk played Perry's the EDM stage, while Deadmau5 was bumped up to the full size stage (as already pointed out).
You can ramble about GT all you want, but facts are facts, Deadmau5 has been getting much bigger billings than GT at festivals.
Well today at AM I was welcomed back with news on 2 of our artists to be announced at multiple US festivals this summer; with one as a Pre-HL for Roo this year. If it's not obvious to you all who it is, look into it.
Oh, and alot of you will most likely be disappointed. Besides Phi of course.
Ok Ok..... I think at this point it is fairly obvious that deadmau5 is a which stage act size act. Now, lets move on to talking about real musicians that play real music.
