Paul McCartney has been announced as headliner of a new 20,000 capacity FREE Diamond Jubilee Concert held at the Queen Victoria Memorial, with Buckingham Palace as the backdrop.
This event on Monday 4th June, the first bank holiday of the long Jubilee weekend, will be the centrepiece of the celebrations marking The Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The BBC and Gary Barlow are bringing together some of the biggest names from the worlds of music, dance and musical theatre – including Elton John, Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, Jessie J, JLS, Ed Sheeran, Madness, Annie Lennox, Cliff Richard, Alfie Boe, and classical pianist Lang Lang.
This is a one off. I don't think it means there is a tour or more shows coming. Macca seems to be a very far reach at this point
Eh, not so fast. McCartney is now doing 3 one-offs in a short period of time (Olympics, Grammys and this). Plus he had a new CD released today. I would expect to see a McCartney tour announced VERY Soon.
I have been forced by members of the board that it is an impossibility (although I secretly still have hope) of him playing at Roo because of what is already on the lineup.
That said, this has no bearing on their 2012 Bonnaroo chances. They won't tour until they release a new record, and if they're still in the "talking"/planning stages of a new record, I imagine we won't see it until winter 2012/spring 2013 at the earliest. DAFT PUNK BONNAROO 2013: I BELIEVE! (just kidding)

The board is always right.
What is this, 1984? Noone is forcing you to think anything, dude. Think what you'd like. Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four
So since there's no chance of Daft Punk........ How's everyone getting to the farm this year? I've always driven but I'm really considering flying this year (sorry about the lame post... the Daft Punk talk was depressing me)
Oh I'm not looking for a ride or anything. I was just tired of looking at all the Daft Punk Yes/No's. Thought I'd throw something else out there. I mean, we've talked about everything else on this thread so far
@murdocgorillaz Murdoc Niccals This Thursday. 9th Tune in. The gagging order’s off and I’ll let you know who’s on this track with Gorillaz. Big names! Big Deal!!

Believe me, dude, we ALL want it to happen. But it's extremely wise at this point to not expect it since it's highly unlikely. That way, in the off-chance it does happen, we can all be ecstatic when the lineup comes out and their name is on it.

While I agree that Daft Punk is a long shot, I don't agree with everyone's logic on why. They're a long shot because they haven't toured in years and have no announced dates. Period.
As for the waiting-for-the-album logic, for someone like Daft Punk it WOULD make sense for them to tour in advance of completing it to generate some buzz and bring attention back to the type of music they would release and away from the hard-bass dubstep boys.
Also, their 06/07 tour had no album associated with it (other than the resulting live album) so again, an album coming out soon really cuts both ways. One could also say they never toured on the Tron soundtrack which would give them some material to push. Fat chance of Disney keeping that a secret, but still.
As for the "won't do a one off" "won't play a first year fest" logic, they played all sorts of random festivals in 06/07 - sure I don't think any of them were first year, but they weren't confined to the Coachellas/Roskildes/Lollas of the world. They also played Coachella then nothing for two months, or would drop into a continent for 4 shows then bounce again.
Finally, I heard Thomas Bangalter's favorite season of the Wire was Season 2. What's up with that?

Wait .. what is this?
Tweet from Gorillaz... no idea what it's referring to

if theres a new album, this could be a possibility. they would fit in as a late night set, and fit nicely as that big #4 act. Could they fit on Which LN since the screen is there now, or would they have to be on What?
You still think they have the same kind of pull as they did a few years ago? I mean how long can a cartoon band keep up that level of popularity? But I agree. I don't think we'll see them this year
well if Phish's 2nd show is a daytime acoustic, then Gorillaz could get the late night What slot, I dont think we get two late night Whats this year.
Radiohead(hl) - Phish(hl) - RHCP(hl) - The Gorillaz(ln) - Jack White(pre) - Atoms For Peace(ln) - The Shins(which) - Drake(which) - The Avett Brothers(which) - Bon Iver(pre) - The Roots(pre)
Then they wouldn't play I don't think. There is no way Gorillaz plays Which. Way too big
Not just to be contradictory but every time I see this I measure it against NIN on their retirement tour. I am not sure they are any bigger than that, however a one off or reunion may make the difference.
Did they run both stages during Phish LN 09, or was Public Enemy in a tent?
The tweet by Murdoc was about a thing the Gorillaz are doing with Converse. The Gorillaz are collaborating with three other artist to make a single song. Also a line of Gorillaz chucks are begin released.

jess. my question was more about the size of their stage show, then their popularity. i was just wondering if they could fit everything on which.

That's a good point. I saw them on their Plastic Beach tour and they had the entire stage filled up with band members, a full choir, dancers, guest stars, and props/images. It was quite a spectacle

A basketball court is 50 feet across and can fit a lot of shows, I am pretty sure the Which is around that size as well. I don't feel like at arena shows the stage gets much wider than the court area.
Edit
I only remember this because of all the Kanye discussion over his move to the What. AC specifically said that their stage was the same size as every other stage he played on that tour.

They're not really a cartoon band.
They are a cartoon band that collaborates with Live artists. I wonder if Tank Girl will sit in with them any time soon?
