Gah, I just realized that! And I was at David Byrne and not at Wilco. Shame on me.
That's okay. Just trying to help. I'm pretty much with you on how you refer to who the headliners are. I might even go as far to add the Sunday Which Stage closer. Of course then you'd probably have to consider the bands that play Which during sunset on Fri & Sat. Now if we're talking one headliner from each day, it used to be whoever was playing around 9ish on the What Stage. Nowadays I'd say the top headliner for each day is whoever plays on the What Stage last that day.
Who do you consider the 6 headliners were for 2011, 2010, and 2009?
11 - MMJ, Arcade Fire, Black Keys, Buffalo, Eminem, Widespread 10 - Tenacious D, Kings of Leon, Flaming Lips, Stevie Wonder, Jay-Z, Dave Matthews Band 09 - Beasties, Phish, Wilco, Springsteen, NIN, Phish
Of course, that's entirely subjective. But I doubt I'm more than one name off from each year.
So headliners play the which stage and which-stage late nights now?
My point is that I consider there to be 3 headliners unless special circumstances like 2009 and 2010. People have begun saying that Bonnaroo has "6 headliners" and i just don't get it. That started when insider said she was giving us 6 headliners but she was just using the word "headliner" to mean "prime time What stage act".
In 2009 it was Phish and Bruce. Bonnaroo.com even had a news release that year that stated what nights the headliners would play and they only listed Phish and Bruce. No other acts mentioned.
In 2010 I felt like there were 4 headliners, even though it could be argued that Jay-Z just played a late night set.
I just don't understand the idea that Bonnaroo has 6 headliners....especially when people start naming NIN and Buffalo Springfield. They were top of the card acts but headliners? Nah.
I would love to see insider come on here tonight and flesh out the final 3 of the 6 headliners for us. Sure, the lineup is coming out tomorrow, but it would be a nice appetizer prior to tomorrow's main course.
Who do you consider the 6 headliners were for 2011, 2010, and 2009?
If I'm going by insider's rules, it's...
2011: Arcade Fire, Eminem, Widepsread Panic, My Morning Jacket, Black Keys, Robert Plant 2010: KOL, DMB, Stevie Wonder, Jay Z (I didn't go this year, so I can't remember who played before KOL and DMB... Zac Brown Band is one of the two I think) 2009: Phish x2, Bruce Springsteen, Beastie Boys, Wilco, Snoop Dogg
And because my post was about insider, those are the 6 bands I would love to see her drop tonight.

That's just it. There are no "insider's rules". She just happened to have 6 big acts (headliner and pre-headlienr) that year. When she said the word "headliner" she was just referring to the 'prime-time acts' on the What stage and told us not to get bogged down in semantics.
I know it's a matter of opinion on how you want to view it but when I see people say that Wilco, Snoop Dogg, and Zac Brown Band headlined Bonnaroo my head just starts to hurt.
Listening to Howard Stern this weekend, he said that rumor is they're already fighting constantly and "if you want to see them, you better catch a show before they get to New York, because they may not make it."

Oh it's cool. I agree. A great thing about Bonnaroo is that depending on your taste in music, the headliner is certainly different each day. Sunday in 07 - White Stripes headlined for me, no question. But Saturday in 10 - Jay-Z was the real headliner for me.
Seriously, just thinking about how awesome Bonnaroo can be gave me goosebumps. Is it tomorrow yet?
And I don't think that headliner status is strictly What Stage. Nine Inch Nails were certainly a top 6 name in 2009.

But my post wasn't about semantics. It was simply about finding out the other 3 names that insider considers headliners. I'm not trying to argue who is a headliner and who is not, I'm just saying I would love to find out the remaining 3 bands that insider sometimes likes to provide us.
Red hot Chili Peppers * Beach Boys * Jack White * Adele
Headliners in bold
And I think people get so uptight over the HL thing because Bonnaroo is unique in that it is the only festival that feature unopposed acts. Headliner means that you pretty much go to that act or nap.

She doesn't always give us the same amount though.
As for finding out more bands....we'll know tomorrow but an insider visit would be wonderful.

It was Tenacious D and Zac Brown Band for the record
