mustard-
yorke said they will tour in 2012. from the article it made it seem like it might not be a tour straight through the year, but instead they will take their time and tour on and off through out 2012.
also atoms for peace is close to finishing a new album.
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts
Am I the only one that hopes Bjork DOESNT headline at Roo next year? I just dont/never have understood what the big deal is? I actually find her kind of annoying.......
I think Bjork can do a shared headline gig like what Bonnaroo did this year or a midnight stage slot. She needs to be on a stage, but Bonnaroo has gotten so big I am not convinced she is a huge draw for the crowd they have been drawing in the last couple years

She's a bigger draw for me than godforsaken Eminem. Alas, I'm probably not speaking for the masses of this year's attendees...

Just on the festival treads I see either Foo Fighters or RHCP as a headliner. As already spoken about, we can speculate about Radiohead with them touring next year. To cut down on their carbon footprint I am sure they will want to hit up a festival or two in the states. If they do Coachella I would almost rule them out for roo.
Prince would be topped billed and Roo would never get both Prince and Radiohead.
With the Radiohead news today I do think it is more possible than ever though.
Radiohead * Kanye West * My Morning Jacket would top last year and any other year IMO. I dont see us getting a classic headliner like Macca, Stones, Prince, and getting Radiohead. That would be great though.

For as much as it pains me to say ..... I think your right. We have shared headliners in past but I'm thinking there will be an exclusivity clause in that contract.
I don't see them doing an exclusive festival show in support of their new album. That makes no sense to me.
It all comes down to money and I think Goldenvoice has that locked up. Your talking about a band that doesn't need to tour in support of a record and hasn't. At best its gonna be a year before they tour for King Of Limbs after release. There wasn't an overwhelming desire to tour for support of that album.
Me thinks it makes more sense to play weekend one of Coachella, tour west coast and play weekend 2.
But again thats me. I hope I'm wrong and I hope Radiohead plays Bonnaroo.

This. As much as I want them at Bonnaroo, if they play only one festival let's be honest, it's Coachella. California. Everyone drives their Prius to the concert. Very carbon footprint friendly. They can do two shows in a week and knock out the whole western seaboard.
My consolation is a tour. I WILL catch them somewhere.

Insider said the original headliners for last year were going to be: Radiohead - Prince - Furthur

Would you say that this Radiohead news helps us get at least Radiohead and Further?

i dont think she said those were the original, just that bonnaroo contacted all of them. Furthur was a late drop she said. For Radiohead and Prince as far as we know once they found out they couldnt get the first they went after the second

Here's how I read it. They will "play dates on and off through 2012" means just like in 2008. They just played short regional tours throughout the spring, summer, and fall. I assume they did this both to minimize the stress of touring (among members and in terms of stamina of traveling) and to reduce their carbon footprint (you know how they are about that...).
What does this mean? Well it makes sense to me to do California and the west coast during Coachella. Open with week 1 of Coachella, do a local circular tour, do week 2, then maybe a few more shows (if they go north first, hit Phoenix/Denver/Albuquerque afterward or vice versa or something). Realistically, Coachella makes the most sense because it's been longer since they played there (2004) than Bonnaroo (2006) or Lolla (2008). However, they've never played ACL.
After a month or 2 off, do another short tour, perhaps around the South- hitting Bonnaroo hopefully. Last time the Southern tour included Houston, St. Louis, Atlanta, Charlotte, somewhere in Virginia (Norfolk?), and maybe one more. I think Houston had 2 shows. I have the poster from it at home, so I can check later. It was in early May. Btw that Charlotte show was awesome.
Later in the summer of 2008 they did another tour, in the midwest, that included a spot Lolla. Since they probably won't play Lolla again this year, I'd imagine they'll tour the midwest at some point, but possibly not at the same time. They could do the northeast around early August since that's the nicest time of year up there (up for debate, I know).
If they do ACL, that means a midwest/southern plains states around mid-September. This could also happen if they do Voodoo or something instead of ACL, just a bit later in the year.
This begs the question, how many festivals is too many for them to do? Is there a max?
I would argue that playing too many festivals cuts into local sales for most large bands, although less so for Radiohead. If a big band plays too many festivals, than too many people who want to see them would just hit the fests they were playing and not buy local show tickets. Radiohead, though, has a large following of dedicated fans (headheads? Could be a good name) who are willing to pay to see them multiple times in a tour, like me in 08 at Charlotte and Lolla. So how many is a max? 2? 3? Does Coachella count as 2 if you play both weekends?
Here's how I see it. Festivals are somewhere between regional (the size of their tours) and national. Inter-regional perhaps is a good term to use. For example, playing Coachella might cut into the market in Phoenix a fair amount, Dallas a noticeable amount, and Atlanta essentially not at all. The opposite is true for Bonnaroo. ACL would probably cut into both, more-so into Atlanta's.
However, because of the scattered timing of all 3, doing each is feasible. Coachella is in the Spring, and tickets go on sale before Bonnaroo releases it's lineup. Those 2 don't really have much overlap geographically, anyway, even if they did both weekends. ACL announces it's lineup way after Bonnaroo starts selling tickets, and potentially around the time Bonnaroo could sell out if Radiohead is playing. If people wanted to see Radiohead twice, once at a festival and once at a concert (for example) and they lived in the Midwest, they would already have tickets to Bonnaroo by the time the ACL lineup came out (probably). So, IF Radiohead releases their midwest shows' tickets for sale before the ACL lineup is released, these people are already booked at seeing them twice. And they get the same payout whether ACL sells 50k or 60k, with a possible sellout bonus. Not to mention that ACL will always have a demand, anyway.
So I conclude that it is not unreasonable for Radiohead to play Coachella (even both weekends), Bonnaroo, and ACL- the 3 most likely festivals. Is it probable? No idea. But it's not out of the question. If they do Voodoo, though, that could change things, since it's so much closer to Bonnaroo than ACL is.
Sorry for the long post...

Well, what she actually said was that early signs pointed towards them all performing. I could easily see Prince playing the Friday night spot as a classic act, much like Tom Petty played Friday when Radiohead performed in 2006.

if thats the case then my bad, dont remember 100%. It would just seem to me that both of them would be number 1 acts(not to mention be number 1 acts money wise).
if they were both there i obviously wouldnt complain, that would be a hell of a get.
Prince reportedly got $4.8 million for Coachella in 2008. Radiohead's booking for Lolla '08 was around $2million, and it's only going to go up. Compare that to ~$1 Million for Arcade Fire and $3M for Eminem. That'swuite a jump.
