I'm not big into the whole headliner guessing game. I'm not going to guess a whole specific lineup, but here are my thoughts
1.) They're going to go cheap. No HUGE names. No rolling stones. No Macca. No U2. No Bowie. Probably no Prince. No one who could potentially sell out a 60,000-80,000 person venue on their own. Look at the past 2 years. They've sold the most tickets in years without any huge name headliners (besides, arguably, eminem)
2.) No hip hop headliner. We used up all the big headline worthy names already. In the past 4 years we've already had Eminem, Jay-Z, Kanye, the Beastie Boys, and Lil Wayne. I know alot of you are hoping for a watch the throne set, but I just don't see it happening. I don't see Kanye coming back. And I just don't see them continuing the show past the end of their tour in Dec. I think the only way we'll see another hip hop headliner this year is if there's an outkast reunion, but I'm not holding my breath for that. Not to say the lineup won't be hip hop heavy. I bet we'd get maybe some higher tier acts in the preheadline slot, latenight which, and/or latenight tents.
3.) No REAL Jam headliner. 2008 almost saw Jack Johnson close sunday. 2010 saw Dave close. I think we'll get some one jam-ish, but no true jam band. I just don't see Phish coming back (although I hope I'm wrong). They do their own festivals, they don't need bonnaroo (yea I know they're still doing other festivals- i just don't see it happening) Further is just barely big enough to headline. They don't have the name recognition, they're not that huge, and they're running off greatful dead nostalgia and loyal deadheads. If they headlined I think it would be the least popular sunday headliner in years, and alot of people may leave early. And besides phish and further- who's left who can fill the slot? I think we'll get a jammy classic headliner (Neil young, clapton?), or MMJ I'm thinking and hoping MMJ could and would be the sunday night headliner slot. They're jam-ish- they're getting really popular and they appeal both to the jam crowd and somewhat to the hipster crowd. I think it just makes alot of sense. I think the jam crowd could be ok with this change as long as bonnaroo keeps some other big names on the lineup- maybe Trey on latenight which?
4.) Electronic latenight What or Which- it's about time. Unfortunately I think it will probably be Deadmau5 latenight which. But I'm hoping we could get Daft Punk to do Latenight what. Or for latenight which I think we could potentially either see the chemical brothers, or a trip hop act- maybe Massive attack, bjork, or portishead.
Laggy, i'm sure you are right on at least a couple of those.
it all just really comes down to who is available and who we can afford.
if insider was correct we aimed very high last year with Prince and Radiohead. but had to settle with Eminem and Arcade Fire.
if a big name happens to decide to reunite and do a tour you can surely bet bonnaroo will make an effort to grab them (The Police, Buffalo Springfield)
if nothing comes up then they'll just turn to whoever is gaining a momentum of popularity and relevancy (recent album drop and/or grammy nominated)
my out-of-the-loop speculation: Black Sabbath, Coldplay, 50 cent, Phoenix, Bjork, Deadmau5

Is 50 cent still relevant? I've been very happy to not have heard him mentioned for well over a year now. Not that he irritates me half as much as Lil wayne and alot of other mainstream hip hop, but he's a boring talentless hack- i never understood the appeal
i have been hiking the AT for the last 6 months. apart from dubstep, i have no idea who or what is relevant.
the only two songs that followed me throughout all 14 states were Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" and whoever sings that BS "Everybody just Have a Good Time" rave song that's on the hampster kia commercial.

That would be LMFAO which i would be very disappointed if ACE wasted $80,000 on them.
Personally, I don't think they really have headliners anymore except just your prime time main stage acts. I'm thinking:
Coldplay Lady Gaga Wilco Paul Simon My Morning Jacket Furthur in no particular order
This sounds pretty much like what I had in mind. But with MMJ sunday and Further in maybe a latenight which slot or as preheadliner. (Yes, I think MMJ is arguably bigger than further) Also, you forgot Deadmau5
^^^ If there is a hip hop headliner it will be Kanyeye or Watch the Throne. The only other hip hop that could headline is Outkast IMO and I see that is unrealistic
The thought that they would go cheap this goes against their trend. The lineup was pretty stacked. Eminem (highest grossing hip hop artist of all time), arcade fire (best album recipients for the year), wayne, buffalo springfield, mmj....
That lineup had to cost some dough, and they sold out. I'm sure they will want to repeat that this year.

Yeah, I should've chosen my words better. They don't go "cheap", it's just rather than blowing all their cash on one really big name, they stack the line up with a bunch of "pretty big" names.
Radiohead and Portishead share a drummer (on tour). radiohead plays 2hr+ sets, and portishead plays 90 minutes. I wouldn't expect them to be playing the same night.
Are you guys sure you want Radiohead to headline? This will only cause a majority of people to like them, and once most people like them, you will have to start disliking them and telling everybody that they've sold out, and that their older lesser-known stuff is the only stuff worth listening to.

Anyone have any idea how much headliners do cost? Like, how much Eminem costs vs. how much The Police cost? I'm just curious. I've researched it before but never can find anything.
