I've had a super long day and decided that buying alcohol in TN would be much easier on me. Is it viable to just get a shitton of crap beer at walmart? Has anyone ever seen them run out? What would you suggest I do? I'll probably be getting in town around 1 AM - so I wasn't sure what I should attempt to do at that hour. Gonna need to pick up the last minute food and ice type supplies, so I figured the walmart would be easiest, but couldn't remember if they legit ran out of beer any of the previous years? (Essentially, the only person I'm going with has never been to roo, so I have no one to bounce ideas off of.) thanks much for any input guys
if you are coming from south of manchester stop @ the Wal Mart in Kimball, TN. It's about 20 miles past Chattanooga & about 50 miles from manchester. I wanna say exit #152 but don't quote me on the exit number but it's definitely the Kimball exit.
I live in Chatt and work for the local Miller/Coors Distributor and we pack that place out with beer. years ago they would run out but these days we really slam them. Normally we have to go pick beer up b/c of how much we put in there. Same with the other local beer distributors.
If you are coming from the north I'd stop somewhere way before Manchester. a little googling will go a long way to find a wal mart.
if you wait 'til you get to Manchester,.. all I can say is good luck. I got no insight there.
note that there are crazy prohibition-era laws still in effect in TN about selling alcohol for off-premises consumption between certain hours (even on weekdays)
not sure what they are... fwiw, wiki says TN stops selling at 3am and starts selling again at 7am:
it's pretty much 3a cut off for buying throughout the entire state but buying times in the morning are different all over the place
some communities where I live (in Tennessee) have selling start times of 8a, some 10a, and some even noon. but I've never seen anything different than the 3a cut off time

Thought so, regarding the tax. I'll prolly stop outside of TN or something, just been a hectic day here. So glad I can always stop in here and throw ideas around! <3
Buy your stuff here in Manchester please! Walmart won't run out. I've lived here all 10 years, they won't. Your purchases during bonnaroo are a large part on our local economy.
TM slaes tax is 9.75 in that area. no extra beer taxes that you will see. if coming from Chattanooga, the kimball walmart may be in shorter supply. new store manager who is not up to speed. Manchester WM will be good to go but busy as all get out. if coming from Nashville, there is walmart at exit 78 in Murfreesboro. go east. after that, there really isnt squat till manchester.

I stopped there today and they were well stocked. I was very happy to see fat tire cans.

wait...a 3am cutoff is considered crazy prohibition-era? In Wisconsin it is 9pm for off licenses, 2AM on...and I was under the impression that we had really lenient alcohol laws. Minnesota doesn't allow any sales on Sundays.
Laugh....Jack Daniels is made in Lynchburg, about 20 miles from Manchester, in Moore County; a dry county....although they can make all the whiskey they want, they can't sell it there.
The larger cities in TN are like any other city, but a lot of the small towns simply don't follow the mold.
I plan on stopping at Publix in Murfreesboro. I'm from FL working in TN, and as stupid as it sounds, miss Publix....so I'm stopping there...immediately off I-24.
Have a great roo peeps....be careful driving in; remember we are a prime opportunity to help balance the State budget. Don't speed, make sure all of your lights are working, and don't bring a lot of attention to yourselves; there is plenty of time to do that on the farm.
Yeah, there is a lot of beer stocked at Wal Mart, but every Wal Mart I've been to has had higher prices all around, and very few selections in craft beers, far less than a regular grocery store.
