For the most part I thought it was pretty quacking awesome.
My only complaint really was how they did the CoK prologue scene with Maester Cressen. SPOILER ALERT: from what I remember in the book, Cressen puts the poison in Melisandre's drink and she sips it before he does. But in the show, he puts it in his own drink, sips it first and then gives it to her, as if he meant to kill himself all along. Almost like a who shot first situation, Han or Gweedo, but maybe I'm just misremembering from the book. Also, this is just me, but I feel like actors who play Davos and Stannis should be switched.
all-in-all a great return for the series, and all of the actors have really stepped up their game big-time. Jack Gleeson as Joffrey in particular. That kid can act.
You're right, in the book, she does drink first and then Cressen drinks. I think his plan was to kill himself along with her all along in order to serve his king though. Other thing, and maybe i'm nit picking because of the books. But was not happy with the way they did the whole Stannis pulling out the sword part. He is suppose to keep the sword with him and it is suppose to be glowing whenever it is unsheathed. Was kinda upset all they had was a flaming sword that eventually went out.
Again i'm just loyal to the source material. Overall though i thought the premiere was awesome. I can't wait for the rest of the season! The stuff beyond the wall that they showed in the 'this season on GoT' part looks so sick, i can't wait.

Yeah, Stannis' and Davos' and Dragonstone's overall introduction was probably the weakest part of the episode. I can already tell since I have read the book, I will be watching this season very differently than I did with season 1. I can already tell I will be overly critical in some aspects.
It's interesting how much they shuffled around the order of events (compared to season 1. CoK opens with Arya on the kingsroad, and Jon and Commander Mormont and the rest of the black don't get to Craster's until like 200 pages in or so. But last night we didn't even get so much as a glimpse of Arya until the last 20 seconds. Not really a complaint, I actually thought it was kind of cool.
I'm thinking next episode will be mostly focused around Arya, Theon, and Catelyn at Renly's camp.

I'm willing to withhold judgement on the Dragonstone/Stannis stuff until I get more from there. My only real complaint was that Littlefinger acted a bit out of character in intentionally antagonizing Cersei the way he did when he is supposed to be everyone's best friend.
Yeah, i liked that they kept mention between Rob and the Lannisters, that they didn't know where Arya was, and then didn't really reveal that till the end.
Personally i get nervous with how they're doing it, because i know they're trying to keep it as a show for everybody besides hardcore fans. But the books get sooooo indepth with some characters that i know they're gonna have to leave out some back stories/connections that i'm gonna be upset about.
Pretty excited for when they introduce the Tyrell's and their bannerman. Even the Greyjoy's should be awesome.

**::BOOK SPOILER::**
I'm thinking they are trying to give the audience subtle hints and foreshadowing that despite him 'acting' like everyone's friend, he really does hate the Lannisters and not to have Joffrey's eventual fate at the hand of Littlefinger to come out of left field. I agree that scene wasn't the best way to do something like that. By FFC Littlefinger is one of the few people that Cersei likes and trusts. Joffrey's death in season 4 (?) will be huge, and I think they are trying to give Littlefinger some motive with his plotting against the Lannisters.
The original scenes that are not from the books are some of the most interesting but also some of the weakest parts of the show. I do like how they flesh out Robb Stark more in this show than just having him as a supporting role to Catelyn's narrative. Judging by the season's previews, the show is going to be following him around a lot this season, at least more than in the book.
Episode 2 "The Night Lands" has leaked. I'm choosing to wait until Sunday to watch it in HD on my dad's big-ass widescreen, but I have a good link if anyone wants it PM'd.
Very great as usual. The sets were exceptional, namely the Kingsroad scenes with Arya and Gendry (looked terrific in HD) and Pyke. The actor who played Balon Greyjoy was awesome. Can't wait to see more of him.
What did yall think of Stannis getting it on with Melisandre? I know it was heavily implied in the books, but didn't expect the show to go there.
And that scene with Littlefinger in the brothel made him seem very dark and cruel. I am starting to wonder if George R.R. Martin told the producers/writers something about what he has planned for Littlefinger in the future of the series. After last week's scene and now this one the writers are having him come off unnecessarily antagonistic.

I have to agree about Littlefinger, I was a little shocked at the direction thy went with that. But at the same time, he had just been humiliated by Cersei, maybe he was just taking it out on his little hookers. I don't know, given that the books are so much more detailed this was probably just an easy way to make sure we all knew the depth of his character. As if betraying Ned Stark and taunting Cersei wasn't enough.
And man, that Stannis/Melisandre thing was just uncomfortable, haha. It bothered me, the actor they've got playing Stannis is SPOT ON, whenever I read the books I was always uncomfortable with Stannis, like, if he were a real person I would want to back out of any room he was in. This actor invokes that, its brilliant, really. I think it will be an interesting thing to watch.
Balon Greyjoy was awesome, didn't like Theon's sister though. She was confident but in a cocky, obnoxious way that made me not like her....in the books I loved her. Maybe I'm just too picky.
I love the dialogue between Arya and Gendry, it was easily one of my favorites in the books and I really love it on screen as well. The little girl that plays Arya is gonna be so pretty when she grows up, I feel like they are having a hard time hiding the girl in her.

I guess I never really picked up the implication that Stannis and Melisandre were quackin in the books I was certainly surprised.
I think it was like the Renly thing. They don't really say that melisandre and stannis banged it out but it's implied kind of like how they dont show a scene in the books where renly is getting blowies from a dude even though it is somewhat implied.
I hate that i'm such a fanboy and so biased because again i loved the second episode. I hardly have seen them go wrong. I really liked the Pyke scene, just like in the books. And i cannot WAIT until that gets more detailed and the Crow's Eye and Victarion get introduced those two are so bad ass.
The little finger thing again was a little strange. But i think the writers are understanding that they can't really show every chapter from the books that explains character depth. So like you're all saying i feel it is a way to show the mainstream audience, (who hasn't read the books) what exactly this character is like. Because he does get pretty nuts.
I liked that they only showed Danareys in one scene too. Kind of just showing the audience that she is stuck in this desolate land, and like in the books will be there for a while.
Also Yoren was a bad ass, telling that gold cloak he was gonna slice his femeral artery. I just get more excited after every episode, i wish they would just release a 11 hour movie and let people see the whole season in theaters. I'd pay for that easily

It was definitely never directly stated, and I wasn't really sure if that's what was actually happening while I was reading. I know they kept implying that Melisandre was Stannis' "true queen", but obviously HBO is much more blunt and direct than GRRM. Something that will probably always be unconfirmed but speculated in the books is explicitly shown during the characters' second appearance haha
Most of complaints from the majority of internet fanboys I am fine with. -Stannis and Melisandre I thought made sense in the same light as gay Renly. -I thought the actress that played Yara/Asha was great. Not exactly how I imagined her but I can definitely see her as iron-born. The producers are still nailing the casting for the most part IMO.
But that scene with Littlefinger and Ros just bugged me. Why are they giving Littlefinger so much screen time? I do love his character, and the actor that plays him is almost perfectly cast, but I really don't recall him having such an important presence in this part of the series. And Ros. Why is this girl getting so much screen time? Why do the writers/producers insist on making her such an important character when she in fact isn't? The fact that they chose to write-out/post-bone characters like the Reed Children, Reek, Edmure and Brendan Tully and Vargo Hoat but give unnecessary screen time to Littlefinger and Ros just kinda rubs me the wrong way.

See I always felt the gay Renly thing was pretty well pointed out especially when Loras freaked after he was killed. The Stannis/Melisandre thing I never really caught on to I guess.
Also I agree with jbprez, while eventually I think Littlefinger will be one of the top 5 most important characters I do not think it will happen for awhile, and it is obnoxious to lose other characters who are more important now in order for him to have more time. I mean the Reed kids and Vargo are all pretty damn important to the plot progression through the third book.

In the books, she's tricking him, but she keeps batting his hand away when he tried to get too frisky. I don't know why she would allow him to go that far in the show, it's very weird. For the most part, incest is just as taboo in the GoT universe as it is in our world, with the exception of the Targaryean dynasty, although that scene would definitely lead one to believe otherwise the way they portrayed it. Rather unsettling.
Also, agree with those who don't understand the focus on Littlefinger/Roz. That scene accomplished nothing and there's so much else that I would have enjoyed seeing.

I think the way it played out was to show how sinister he is, but on such a subtle level.
By telling her the "story" of someone she reminded him of, even though we all knew he was talking about her, it wasn't a direct threat, per se, but she knew it was a threat.
Knowing nothing about these characters, except what I have watched on the show (havent read the books), I appreciated that scene, it gave a great perspective on littlefinger that we hadnt quite seen yet.
I think the main reason so many important characters aren't making it into this season is because of budget concerns. Actors are expensive. Since David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have not come out and said that these characters are being written out, it gives me some hope that they are going to come up later in the series.
::*Some Book Spoilers***::
-I feel confident since Roose Bolton was already cast and will appear this season, Ramsay Snow will definitely make it in the series, maybe just not as Reek. I'm thinking instead of his origin as a captive in Winterfell, he will just march straight from the Dreadfort in season 3. (Based on brief plot synopses on one of the GoT wikis, I don't think the raising of Winterfell is happening this season).
-The Tullys have to be in season 3. No way you can justify writing out Catelyn's family or Riverrun for that matter. The Red Wedding just can't happen without Edmure. Also I feel like you can't put so much emphasis on Littlefinger without having Riverrun and The Tullys.
-The Reed children sadly are out I think. Someone has already said that their role will be fulfilled by Osha. From a writer's perspective, it probably wouldn't be that hard to change, since she is already from north of the wall (except on convincing an audience on why she'd go back north after fleeing from the wights.) As for Rickon, I'm guessing instead of killing off Maester Luwin, he will take Rickon as opposed to Osha.
- Vargo Hoat along with the Brave Companions will probably be introduced next season along with Lord Beric and his crew of outlaws (Lord Beric made a very brief appearance in season 1).
-Since Strong Belwas and 'Whitebeard' don't appear until the very end of COK and serve as a transition into SOS, they will probably be introduced early in season 3.

So after reading too many instances of spoilers in multiple threads regarding TV, Movies, and Books I wanted to implement a "Spoilers" tag so that people could be free to read through threads.
Just try to use common sense with these. Like, if the show aired a week ago you don't need to use them to discuss what happened on that episode. But if you know some inside info or have read the source material and want to discuss things that happen later on in the story then please use the spoiler tags. Please spread the word to everyone....i'm posting this in the Walking Dead thread as well but if you can think of others please spread the word.
How to Use[/u]
Two ways to use it.
Either type [spoiler.] and [/spoiler.] (remove the period) and post the spoiler between those tags
OR
Click on this icon when at the posting screen: and put the spoiler between the tags.
I got sick last week and caught up from the beginning through the most recent episode in the course of three days.
Oh man, I'm proud of you buddy. That must have been quite an array of emotions you experienced there. Last year, a friend invited me to watch Game of Thrones when there was only two episodes left in the season. I only had one day to watch all of the episodes leading up to it, haha it was rough, but so worth it.

Thats what we did last weekend. We watched eps 1-4 on Friday night and 5-10 on Saturday night, was up til 2:00 AM Sat/Sun morn finishing them, then waited til ep 2 aired and watch 1 and 2 from second season on Monday night.
It is amazing how sucked in you get and how fast the episode fly by. The show ends and Im always like, "Damn, that was an hour?"

I think the fact that there are no commercials make the hour go by a lot faster instead of interrupting it 3 or 4 times. Without commercial interruptions, you get sucked in and completely invested until credits roll, whereas commercials take you out of it, draggin out a 45 minute show over an hour.
an HBO show can be anywhere from 5 minutes to 15 minutes longer than a regular cable show. Last week's GoT episode was only 51 minutes, but sometimes they are 59 or 60 minutes long.
And regular cable networks are getting greedy, putting more and more commercials in their programs every year. Look at the early seasons of It's Always Sunny or South Park. The show has gone from averaging about 23-24 minutes an episode to now 20-21 minutes an episode.
