Okay, so, I'm an extremely casual Prince fan. I don't really believe I dislike anything of his that I've heard. But I want to start becoming more familiar with his albums and such. Being that he's got a ton of music out there, I'm wondering what your guys' favorite albums are, and what albums you think I should start with.
Start with The Hits 1 and 2, see what you like from there, and go to those albums. That is likely your safest bet, rather than just diving into an album you may not like.
Personally, 1999, Purple Rain, Dirty Mind, Sign O The Times, and Controversy are the best, but there are bright spots on everything he's ever put out.
If I had to say "go straight to this album", it would be Purple Rain... may be cliche, but it's his most popular record for a damn good reason.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
I mean really... as a film, Purple Rain is absolute garbage. Terrible script and acting, uninspired directing. I'll just stick to the Purple Rain Tour vhs I have, the The Hits dvd, and other concert videos if I absolutely must see Prince while I'm listening to him. 30 minutes or really cool performance footage out of a 90 minute snooze fest, doesn't make a good movie.
And, I swear by all that is right in the world, this is the only thing you'll hear me complain about pertaining to Prince.
